Question - Apple is touting the neural engine just like when they announced the M3 Macintosh. What software (either iPad or Macintosh) is actually taking advantage of the neural engine?
same as the vision pro, nothing from apple. you'll have to wait for developers to develop them.

Keep in mind the cheapest iPad with the anti-glare is $1700.... And the Studio display Apple sold with similar/same anti-glare feature required being cleaned with a specific microfiber cloth, seemed delicate for a display, never mind a touch-screen!
Yeah how the hell is the Apple Pencil gonna work on that thing??

Landscape camera is worth the update alone
If you use FaceTime a lot yeah….but honestly like everything Apple does it takes them many many years and by that time everyone is used to the old way. iPad cameras have been in the same spot for 13 years. It’s like them adding the calculator app this year after 14 years of not having one. It really doesn’t matter anymore. If you wanted a calculator on iPad you have one downloaded already. They just seem to be giving in more and more to whatever ”tech YouTube” complains about. Hell the entire design team has now officially turned over. It’s a new Apple that’s just thrown a lot of stuff at the wall to see what sticks To make money. And hats off to them. It’s working. But having 4 pencils, 3 keyboards and an iPad “Air” that’s heavier than the iPad Pro is laughable. I feel sorry for the store employees who have to explain this mess and pretend that it all makes sense to the average consumer

Any word if they're going to introduce the 80% charging limit on this iPad, like they did with iPhone 15?

I ask because I've had my iPad Pro 10.5 for seven years, and the battery life is pretty degraded. I'd like to keep this new one for seven years or longer, and an 80% max charge would help.

It's definitely worth an upgrade from my M2, because it's brighter and it has the antiglare screen, which has always bothered me. I use mine outside a lot.
Wonderful post. It’s worth upgrading to this person for the personal reasons given. Not for the bs propaganda Tim hopes everyone swallows. Nor is it work the marginal tech bumps. Well done @jbattan and congratulations.

No sim card..? that kinda worries me. I’m quite sure if I call the network now, they won’t know how it will work, moving my existing contract to an esim card…
in US iPhones don't have SIM slot.
have been using eSIM for years.
Initially there were some pain points.
now it is smooth, when i get new iPhone eSIM is transferred from old to new phone seamlessly.

Apple is not expecting anyone with 2 year old iPad to upgrade.
They expect people that have like 5 year old iPad to upgrade.
Can't expect major upgrades every year.

Absolutely true! I use my iPad Air4 for logic. I can’t wait to see what the new M4 will do with logic but beyond that I do watch a lot of movies on my iPad. It’s just convenient, but I find a lot of movies are too dark not the same with other content like YouTube, so it’ll be great to watch a movie on these new iPads but these new iPads are Hella expensive. !

It’s been replaced with pencil pro which has magnets in a different location since they had to change the arrangement to fit the camera on the landscape side. The previous pencil will not work and the new pencil will not work with previous ipads.

FaceTime is just one app I use the camera for. Teams and Zoom are the others. The camera on the wrong edge causes too many issues with alignment when you’re trying to be professional. Better until now to use a laptop or other device. Webcam, if it were updated to work with Teams, would have been fine with me. You can use a USB C webcam with FaceTime but again, businesses dont normally use it in place of other options since most are not buying Apple devices.

M2 iPad Pro 12.9“ owner here…I am definitely upgrading mainly because my current model is 256GB and I am going all iPad from now on, no more Mac. So 1TB M4” 12.9” it is for me! Waiting anxiously for next Wednesday.

I was really expecting them to incorporate glass into the back or maybe use a different material than aluminum. guess that was foolish of me.

where do they go from here? as much as I wanted the M-Series iPad Pros from 2022 and prior, I was content with my 2018 Pro. glad I waited.

I just don’t imagine they’ll be doing anything major hardware wise for a long time. maybe it’ll be another 6+ years before I upgrade the M4.

whenever they make another major change to the display or overall body is probably when I’d upgrade again. or if they introduce a 14”+.

these look like good iPads BUT:
CUST seems high
TOO THIN easy to bend and break leading to costly repairs.

I’ve got a 2021 iPad Pro (M1). I primarily use my iPad for writing, day trading, web browsing and email. Would upgrading to the latest make much of a difference?

Still need MacOS boot option...sure it will draw down the battery, best used when docked near a very large screen and sundry desktop accessories. Remember 2010 when first iPad was positioned (pending software and processor upgrades) to replace the laptop? Well decades later we still need good 'ol MacOS at work. iPadOS is not enough. Just Do It Apple.

Am I the only person who finds it ridiculous that the M4 chip in a new tablet is faster than their laptop and desktop product offerings? Trickle down economics level unlocked

Bigger screens have a lot of benefits. It works better as a separate monitor for the Mac, side by side apps have more room, media looks better, photos look better and are easier to see fine details without zooming in, etc….

Drawing is great on a 13inch iPad!
I work with a couple of artists that use Procreate daily as their main professional tool, above photoshop and everything else for the most part.

They were indeed truly hoping for those 14in or larger rumors to be true, it was a bit of a disappointment on that front (some of them have used Cintiqs before which can be huge in size, but would be impossible in portable tablet form).

Myself I had the first iPad 11inch then M1 12.9in, it was the perfect size for me. Recently started doodling with Nomad Sculpt and darn, the UI can feel crowded quick; the more complex and feature rich an app is the tinier the iPad feels.

Why haven't you done that already? What was the issue holding you back that the new iPad Pro M4 has resolved?

Anyway, good luck with that. Talk with you in 2 years.

In the Pro line, ditching the 11" and go 12" 14" would make the most for demanding productivity. That could actually be disruptive usability in such context. As it is, usability did not evolve much from 2019.

OLED display is the main and only reason to consider an upgrade from older iPad Pro models. Sad to see that the physical SIM card has been removed.
