McLaren front row lockout, interesting. Max still riding solo, as usual.

4,5 and 6 are a surprise I must say! Let’s see if they can hold off Ferrari.

Yuki!

He might not be WC material, but I like seeing a driver who has shown growth and development during his tenure.

And I'd love to see him prove Marko and Horner wrong. He could have reacted quite differently to being passed over for the seat that Lawson holds (for the time being), but he's kept it cool.

McLaren off to a good start, and all the right things are being said in the press about Lando. But that will evaporate if/when Max intimidates him on the track. Don't tell me, show me.…while his teammate also lurks.

Zak had some choice comments after qualifying regarding Yuki being passed over for Lawson. No comment from him as to his reported contact with Max's Managerial Team either...... ;)

Not feeling confident we will get a race in. They just cancelled the F2 race and F3 was run mostly under Safety Car.

Rain has been pretty heavy for hours and the cloud deck is lower than the skyscrapers in the CBD.

I enjoyed that. Was a fun race to watch. maclaren looks very strong.

Max made the right comments in the press conference 🤣

Yes he did. Max seems different. Let's see if it lasts. Kelly is due next month. I've been very curious how fatherhood will affect Max. Let's see how he is after a dry race.

It was great to see Williams in the Top 5 as well.

Great drive by Norris in what was a very tricky race. Handled the pressure well and I’d imagine made a few of the doubters look the other way. I thought Piastri drive well too despite his off. That last lap move on Lewis was excellent. Not mentioned much but Russell drove very well, as did Antonelli to get 4th.

It’ll be interesting to see how far that McLaren is up the road in the next race if it’s dry. They’ve clearly got it together.

Great race. Norris a deserved winner. Couldn’t look away for a second.

So glad Max wasn’t able to chase down the win. I’d rather he was playing catch up rather than be out in front taking cars out as usual.

Felt for Oscar. He didn’t do much wrong. Just one little mistake and he goes from chasing a win to chasing points. Great pass on Lewis though. Very brave on the outside.

Of course the conditioning didn’t tell us too much about where everyone is. The only thing we can agree on is McLaren are the team to beat.

Looking forward to China.

5 second penalty for Antonelli so he finishes 5th. But yes he picks up rookie of the day for sure!

The penalty was reversed on appeal so Kimi remained 4th.

Russel pretty much just cruised - he could make no inroads on the Top Three during the first stint, but he was able to keep Albon and company well behind him.

Ferrari strategy strikes again, but maybe they were hoping for a Red Flag.

Kimi was the only rookie who improved his standing. A bit surprised how bad Lawson and Bearman were since they have racing experience.

McLaren clearly has the car to beat. Fastest in the dry and easiest on tires in the wet (Max absolutely rooted his Inters and was losing seconds a lap to Lando and Piastri towards the end of the first stint).

To be fair I think Ferrari rolled the dice on strategy. If the weather was just a bit drier, they could have been 1-2. It was worth the gamble from where they were.

Good Kimi kept his fourth spot. I think that will be the average for George’s season in normal circumstances!

Anyway a good season opener.

A number of teams stayed out, but a number also came in and everyone knew McLaren was going to pit for Inters the moment the rain started falling so I would have at a minimum brought in at least one of them to cover off Norris (once it was clear Piastri was no longer a factor as he was trying to get out of the grass).

Soooo… is espn going to broadcast the races this season or no ?
They had the replay on their schedule but showed college basketball instead …

98... that is how many days from the last race until the start of this, at some point less than 98 days, you would have thought that maybe certain teams would take maybe a week Monday to Friday, from say 9am to 11am.. 5 days, 2 hours per, to run a race simulation, so that the meat in the seat, and the PHD on the headset, would get to know each other..

But yesterday it was like Lewis meet your race engineer, or as Crofty called him, Lewis's Man Friday.. Lewis moaning about the engineer, and yet is not prepared to spend a couple of hours getting to know his race day slave... Yeah some goat..

Yes interesting, Russell wasn't seen or heard much about during the race. I watched via F1TV. But he was always there, just picking up the points and getting a podium place. A boring, but smart move with what they've got.

They probably did, but not something you build up in a few hours. Likely not even a season...

It was quite amusing to listen to Lewis' new race engineer literally talk him through how to use KERS and when to press it to recharge (K1), like he hasn't been using it for the past 16 years since its introduction lol. Lewis was rightly a bit miffed on the radio but remained respectful. Hopefully that dynamic improves, but I suppose this was the first time they've worked together in a high pressure situation, and very different to instructions during testing. I thought Ferrari played it well with the gamble even if it didn't pay off. The gains would have been worth it, but it was a very changeable race for everybody. Even the most experienced driver on the grid, Alonso, was caught out by the conditions and hopefully the rookies took some solace from that.

After reviewing footage from Australia, the FIA is significantly cracking down on "Mini-DRS" rear wings with the next race in China.
