Watched it today and it was ALL about the rookies, welcome to F1 rookies!! lol.
McLaren 'nearly' screwed up their strategy at the end though when Max grabbed the lead, the rain literally saved them.

It was quite amusing to listen to Lewis' new race engineer literally talk him through how to use KERS and when to press it to recharge (K1), like he hasn't been using it for the past 16 years since its introduction lol. Lewis was rightly a bit miffed on the radio but remained respectful. Hopefully that dynamic improves, but I suppose this was the first time they've worked together in a high pressure situation, and very different to instructions during testing. I thought Ferrari played it well with the gamble even if it didn't pay off. The gains would have been worth it, but it was a very changeable race for everybody. Even the most experienced driver on the grid, Alonso, was caught out by the conditions and hopefully the rookies took some solace from that.

I did chuckle at Lewis's replies. 😂

LeClerc wins easily radio call of the race though!

Engineer: Must be the water....

Charles: let's add that to the words of wisdom.

🤣😂🤣😂👍👍

After reviewing footage from Australia, the FIA is significantly cracking down on "Mini-DRS" rear wings with the next race in China.

Well, that was quicker than I expected. ;)

Isack crying like he crashed his christmas day prezzie on the 26th December Boxing Day race 1 newcomers BBQ.. Ok, if your brother stole your favorite teddy-bear and used it to test rockets, fine, have the tears.. But F1, maybe he should come back in 10 yrs, a bit more mature.. It was a car, not even his.. Experimental prototype, that in a few days will end up in the skip or some dusty museum no one visits.. So why the tears??

LOL So they are either too old, or not mature enough :)

I can understand the emotions involved. Sure, perhaps not the finest emotion when looking back, but the pressure, the anticipation, the disappointments, I can understand some humanity. But I do agree, this is the top of the game. He can't react like that everytime as otherwise he is clearly not suited for this level.

But let's keep it real, it is hard for a rookie to transition. In recent years we've seen Oscar who done so well that it is easy to forget he isn't long in F1 - although sometimes you can see it when he is racing. And Kimi was also incredibly impressive with this race just gone. But that circuit is tricky, the conditions were tricky, way more so than in Brasil actually even though it didn't look as wet. And that combination with the low speed can do things. The question now is; who will learn and learn quick.

I like the mix on the field now.

Considering how "Hatchet Helmut" tends to treat drivers not named Max Verstappen who make mistakes, crying was probably an appropriate response.

The McLaren sounded the best though. From the ride on cameras it did anyway. Although it still sounds like a turbo charged vacuum cleaner.

Christian Horny and the Helmet have been in touch with the FIA constantly since the February tests, so it looks like yet again, they are getting their influence heard. Red Bull will be back and clear at the front before we know it.

Toto and Fred have the emails as well, just sayin............ ;)

The McLaren always has a unique sound. There is always a more pronounced re-gen sound inside the cockpit. I've always found it interesting as it's for all practical purposes the same MGU as Mercedes.

Rookies are dropped very quickly in today’s sport and knowing that vile bloke is deciding your future is a huge pressure in itself. I can also understand how emotions come to the surface in a mistake before the race had even started.

I'm not saying it is not commonplace for teams to report each other to gain a competitive edge, as that is part of the game. It's just that Horner and the Helmet are very smug and outspoken when they are ahead, but we all know they are the worst in the sport for double standards, especially with what is said by them in front of the press. It is just amusing to see them cry foul when they mock those that do it to them :)

That’s fair. One could argue they are effective at what they are paid to do as well.

Every sport has villains. They play an important role, IMO.

Zak had some choice comments after qualifying regarding Yuki being passed over for Lawson. No comment from him as to his reported contact with Max's Managerial Team either...... ;)

I read something where Zak cleared the air -- he and Horner genuinely dislike each other -- it's not just a show for DTS.

I admire Brown's "car guy" side and enthusiasm for racing, but that's about it, though he is also a good with marketers.

Horner? He's been…successful. And he doesn't yap as much as he used to.

There's always a need for a villain, so why not two? :D

There are more than two....

Zakary is a master at marketing. His ability to sell was the only thing that that kept him in a car during his racing years. He deserves credit for assembling the current team at McLaren. As a person I don't see him as any less of a POS than Horner. Most TP's don't like each other.

Horner is definitely quieter this year. His demeanor is distant, almost lacking in focus. He sees the writing on the wall. I'll believe Toto wants to sign George by the summer when I see it. ;)

Zak is a lot more polished than Horner in front of the media and as you say, he's a marketeer through and through. He knows how to be professional and cut-throat I think. Not keen on either of them as people but you can't deny that both have done an excellent job of managing their teams over the years. I had my doubts about Zak at the beginning, but I suppose I was conditioned to a McLaren under Ron Dennis who is about as brand aware and analytical as it can possibly get.

George has a lot of work to do but set himself up well in the first race to get Toto's confidence. Is he going to get anywhere near the same impact as Lewis Hamilton? Likely not, but if he keeps finishing in the top 4 with some podiums and wins here and there, I think they'll re-sign him. George is very fast, he just seems to make mistakes under pressure and needs to take more of an assertive approach. If Antonelli finds his groove though and out-performs George too often, we could see Toto looking at his options again.

Agreed. I was impressed with Antonelli's communication with his engineer during Australia. I'm looking forward to his growth.

Very sad news. Not always agreeable views but he made a huge contribution to the sport and firmly in it history, whilst being a decent bloke. The last true Privateer!!

RIP EJ

Formula for Success is one of my all time favorite podcasts. It won't be the same.

RIP and my condolences to EJ's family and all the friends. Cancer is such a rotten thing.

He was from my era of Formula 1, the time when I watched it. I remember the 191 Jordan and the others. Also the Jordan-Peugeot V10 cars with their very distinctive noise.

Jordan was such a character (in a good sense).

And the 191 was such a pretty car. The yellow hornet liveries of the B&H years were also memorable.

Too bad someone like him, or others, would not be admitted to F1 today, since they would not meet the current standard of bringing enough "value" to the sport.
