Still in the running.

I'll still waiting to see video benchmarks and blender cycles OpenCl support, but that price is in the right for me.

Dumb question, but how would I know if I need those cards or whether an iMac would suffice? I edit 1080P video all the time.

You'll probably need to wait for reviews and compare the program you use between both machines.

Ya for $3k I was thinking that would be a HEX-core.

I'm bummed there is no 10 -core option.

And what is the D300, D700 stuff? are there stats on what the Firepro equivalents are? Is the D700 the W9000?

Wishful thinking would be that these are not out yet (hence December) Hawaiian islands Firepro's ... vs. the W5000, W7000, W9000 .. line shrunk down to fit in the nMP.

Guess I'll have to see what $5K buys me?

Free Mavericks for all users back to 10.6 is a very smart move thought! Now there's a way to eliminate the fragmentation currently among OSX users, and get developers using the latest API's. Smart.

Pretty much the entry price I was expecting (over iMac), although in hex rather than quad configuration (so more expensive). Waiting for BTO option pricing, but I think you can count me in for early 2014.

Yea I dont really care about storage .. I have drives .. i would just need an enclosure. But the gpus are really the issue .. I guess Ill have to wait and see what the options are .. im guessing no nvida:(

I would need minimum 512gb ssd but would like 1 tb

Faster CPU, more RAM, significantly faster storage and dual GPUs for, what, $500 more than the old model?

Seems reasonable to me. *shrug*

The old model was a rip off as well. Compare it to the real competition like dell precision hp z workstations. People who need professional workstations don't care about the fancy garbage can case. The truth is all they needed to do was change the mac pro to a mid tower instead of the behemoth it was.

Pricing seems fair, not good, but fair.

What is frustrating though, is this was just another sneak peek without any proper pricing points, pre-orders or even a release date. It could be 31st December when it is launched.

Same here. I was hoping for a 512GB SSD + Hexcore for around $3k, or $2k for a Quad. Add in the cost of GPU up-sell and replacing my internal RAID with a TB enclosure that would push the price around $4-4.5k which is way to much for what I do.

Have some tough "Do I just go back to Windows even though I hate Windows" for a proper, affordable desktop solution choices.

It was what I expected and I'm still dissappointed. I miss the days of entry level PowerMacs and MacPro's at $1500 that were user upgradable.

Yeah, I agree. Comparing this to the old model to say its a good deal is strange since the old Mac Pro was the worse deal in the computing world (recently, not when they first came out.)

The realization of "I just spent 3K and have 256GB of storage" just hit home. I'd have to buy a 4 drive TB enclosure to be back to where I am now.

Not really shocked on the price..

It's a Pro machine, 3K is no surprise. Can't believe they still haven't updated the Thunderbolt Display, that's just piss poor.

I was really looking forward to it but $3K for quad is something I won't be able to accept even if I just lie to myself :D
Windows land for work at least for some time then. Nothing changes :)

I'm also rather disappointed, I expected at least a hex core CPU, and double the RAM, and SSD.

Also D300, and D700s? Hmm, I smell a firmware change on normal 7xxx series cards.

I look forward to seeing proper reviews and benchmarks of this compared to my current system.

Those new SSD's look amazing though, around 1GB/s reads and writes is brilliant.

You'd think for $3k they'd at least give you a ram configuration that uses all 4 channels.

lol.

I've been trying to decide between MP and iMac. An iMac in the config I would want is close to $3k, and thing is, I don't really need the monitor because I already have an NEC PA271 attached to my 3,1 Mac Pro. So I'm actually pretty happy with the entry level price. I think I'm going to get one!

But the $2,999 Mac Pro will hardly be more powerful than a $2,999 iMac.

Rather disappointing price. These computers are meant for professional use. I would sacrifice space/portability for a desktop computer for more performance any day.
256GB + Quad core for 3k + whatever else the monitor will cost. No thanks.
What about a new display to go with this?

I wonder what monitor they were using in the presentation. The all black seemed quite nice.
