Compared to an OtterBox Commuter case? Slimmer?

Yes I think so. It reminds me more of the Apple leather case, which I have bought for the last 2 iPhone's I had, the 5S and the 6S Plus. I was getting ready to buy the Apple leather case again, but then found this one and decided to give it a try, all the reviews were good, figured I would take a chance. Could not have been happier. I work in an office environment so for the most part my phone lays on my desk, when I get up and leave I put my phone in my front pocket, and I feel no bulk at all. I was tempted to go without a case, but my center console in my truck is smooth and the phone would slide around, so the case keeps it from sliding around. All and all, great case.

Today's the day that I have my iPhone 8 for exactly 5 months. Usually I upgrade every year, but I might keep this one until end of 2019, because I'm actually extremely happy with it. I use it with a case but sometimes I take it off to admire it's beauty. Love my 8.

At some point, it's going to get (has already gotten?) hard to feel like a newer model year phone is really going to do that much more for you, other than make you feel good about owning the latest model. :)

I have just sold my X on eBay after ongoing issues with the screen flicker/PWM and not liking the overall weight. Bought a non-plus 8 and love it. Its light, small and wireless charging like the X is a boon. I don't care for all the 'features' of the X over the 8 and the notch annoyed me.

How are people getting on with the 8/+ without a case? How tough is this phone? I would prefer not to bother with one.

I have a Otterbox case and prefer the protection over the wireless charging.

I'v had the 8+ since release day and it's been a great experience. I upgraded from 6+ which I had got after using an Android for a couple of years. I didn't have a bad experience with Android, but not nearly as good as my iOS experience has been. I know all the old stuff you are locked in to Apple walled garden and it's not as customizable. All true, but there are so many advantages that you get with the OS and hardware all working together, not to mention all the other add on's with Apple (TV, MacBook Pro, Watch etc). Android just can't match that day to day experience!

8+ battery life is great and as I said overall the best experience I've had on a phone ever!

My 8 is my first 'big' Apple phone, after years of sticking with a 5S then moving to the SE, as I didn't think I could get on with a big phone, and, yep, I'm now a convert. I still don't understand how you guys manage with the 8+ but I'll never go for the smaller size factor again.

Literally the only issue I am having, is I find it almost scary to pick up, given how fragile the glass looks (though also rather beautiful) and how it seems 'slightly' top heavy to me, in that it feels like it might overbalance if I don't pick it up correctly. I guess that comes from years of handling a smaller device though.

Of course it is also my first iPhone with 3D Touch, which is not as useful as I had been hoping for - literally the only thing I use it for is in Apple Music when selecting songs for playlists etc - if anyone has a guide for apps that make use of the feature it would be appreciated. This technology is I'm guessing why the home-button feels, way *way* more different than any of my old devices - almost as if you are pushing the whole screen in rather than a separate button.

Overall though, love it.

Glad you like it - I know I couldn't do without Force Touch, having it on both my phones, Apple Watch and MacBook.

I think the haptic home button on the 8 Plus...coming from the actual button on the 6, it’s a great improvement! Feels more quality to me.

That's the thing. I have an Apple Watch and MacBook Pro too and hardly ever use it there either. I think sometimes Apple keep the features that are opened up with Force Touch a little too secret.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the 8 feels far more like a premium phone than the SE - I guess that is obvious considering it is over twice the price, but the SE is a rattly phone, whereas the 8 feels far more expertly engineered, and the buttons are all far more solid feeling, and as Gomerboy mentions, there is a touch of quality about it.

The 8 is lovely - it's a keeper for me although I sometimes feel guilty about owning an X too I can't see me ever going back to android. The 8 is so discreet in the pocket; I use mine mainly for music, podcasts, the odd bit of browsing and reading, whilst the X has my main sim card.

I hope you got a nice case for your 8 - slippery things that they are.

I've got an Apple aqua gel case plus a product red case for the 8 and a saddle brown leather case for the X. That's as far as I'll go for protection - I dislike screen protectors.

Have the 8 Plus for about 3 months now. Was pondering about getting a second phone since my backup Huawei phone took on water damage and is now in smartphone heaven, either an SE or the 8, but in the end went with another iPhone 8 Plus since I liked it so much. The wifey’s Galaxy S7 Edge will become my secondary phone, and she will get the iPhone 8 Plus. She had an iPhone 4 ages ago, so it’s not all new to her, it’ll be a nice upgrade for her, especially ever since she had the S7 she’s been complaining of random freezes and stuttering. Coming from the S7 edge, the 8 would be somewhat of a downgrade, in terms of screen size, so an 8 Plus it is!

I have 3 accounts, one of them will be off contract in a little over a year, my plan is to ditch the S7 by then and getting the SE2

The screen on the iPhone 8 is very nice, considering it’s not an OLED, and the True Tone does takes some getting used to, but I am slowly seeing the benefits of this feature. Honestly I’ve had QHD on the Note 4 in the past, in my eyes FHD to QHD is not that big of a difference.

She is somewhat careless and forgets to charge her phone nightly sometimes, so she’ll definitely benefit from on the larger battery of the 8 Plus. Again, being forgetful about her banking passwords, having the touch feature to login will be a nice thing to have for her. Same with double tap home button to use Apple Pay, it is a nice added bonus for the times when she doesn’t or forgets to bring her wallet with her.

I have a 64GB Silver 8. Uprgraded from a 64GB 6. The camera only launchs from the lockscreen swipe only about half the time but otherwise the phone is a solid repalcement to my old 6. The camera bug has to be a iOS 11 thing as my 7 does the exact same thing.

My 8, my old SE, my wife's SE, and my iPad all are like this, it takes like 3-4 times to get the camera to open from the lock screen with the swipe left...super, super irritating.

I bought the SIM-free iPhone 8 on launch day, it has been great. From time to time, I have the mind set of using the iPhone X as my daily driver.

Picked up the 8 day one, very happy coming from a 6. Will last one year, maybe 2, depending on how they improve the unwanted notch, sort out the OLED flicker and implement FaceID Gen 2. Also, hopefully the majority of apps will have implemented full support by that time.

Cons:
  • Still too heavy. This thing is a brick. Everyone comments on it. Way too heavy. And thick. In comparison, the 7+ feels almost svelte. And the 6+ feels like a phone of this size should.
  • Phone call quality sucks--not for me but for the people listening to me on the other end. Everyone comments on it. I guess Apple stopped caring about phone quality after the 6 series. They should at least take the word "Phone" out of "iPhone." Just call it the "i." Will take up much less space on the back of the phone, too. Minimal to the extreme. Apple likes that.
  • No headphone jack. Still sucks.
Pros:
  • Pretty smooth operation. Some stuttering still in certain areas of the UI. Kinda sad, but it's better than the earlier Apple phones.
  • Colors are pretty when the case is off.
  • Battery life is nice, but the thing is still pretty new.
  • Wide format LCD screen. Prefer this over the X screen.
  • Seems to charge a tad faster when on the right charger.
Other comments:
  • Almost never use 3D Touch. Useless feature, especially considering how it adds weight to the phone.
  • Never use wireless charging. Another feature with more downside (weight) than upside.

All I can think of is to comment on your post:

Your Cons:

  • It is heavy but I like the sturdy feel in my hand. Keep in mind this is the first "Plus" I've owned.
  • I haven't had any issue with call quality at all.
  • I honestly don't care about the headphone jack. I never use headphones myself.
Your Pros:
  • Agreed 100%. Granted I am on the latest iOS beta.
  • Also agreed. I do have the gold and have grown to not like how it's more pink than gold.
  • Screen is great, but could be a higher resolution.
  • Mine always charges fast, but I almost always use an iPad charger.

iPhone 8 plus weighs 7.17 oz. iPhone 7 plus weighs 6.63 oz. iPhone 6 plus weighs 6.07 oz. The 8 plus isn't exactly a "brick" compared to previous models.

I'd like to comment on this. In my opinion, it's not a brick. Feels great. I guess I'm not everyone.

Honestly, I came to the 8 Plus from a regular sized 6, the thinnest and one of the lightest iphones ever (so much so that it could bend, apparently), and I stopped really noticing the weight after about a day. I mean, really, no phone today is a "brick". People complain so much about an extra ounce or two.
