Another example of an internet extreme opinion slamming a hugely successful product...

Your "cheap little pair of Bluetooth wireless earphones" are a sign you're not making the most of the smartphone. Invest in some Airpods or another decent pair to prevent those dropouts.

As for your other reasons for this device being the "worst smartphone I have ever owned", it's clear you've either got a dud or you just have a craving to hate on the phone manufacturer...
[doublepost=1526034351][/doublepost]
Another extreme opinion based on a singular experience. Most iPhone 8 Plus owners aren't suffering from glitches. It's obviously a faulty device or you have a unique App that's not playing nice...
Everyone has their own first-hand experiences. They need to make purchasing decisions based on that, not what OTHERS have experienced. Would you be equally critical of someone who expressed an effusively positive experience?

If a cheap little pair of bluetooth wireless earphones work well with other devices, but not with an Apple product and the only solution is to invest $160 for Airpods, then that is "the gift that keeps giving" and may not be a financially wise purchase... or at the very least, need to factor that $160 as an additional cost onto a premium device.

I find it interesting how some folks feel that a high expectation is unreasonable and not warranted for a premium product.

I have an iPhone 8 Plus and it’s been by far my worst Apple experience (had every phone since the 3G. Whether it’s hardware or software (probably software) related I really don’t care. Android has its own issues and there are reasons I prefer iOS but ultimately if they don’t fix whatever iscausing the glitches then I’m out. This phone supposedly has the most powerful processor but it runs like dogsh*t. The best specs in the world don’t mean anything, in fact that’s what the Android fanboys used to use as reasoning that their phones were better. Apple needs to get it together for sure.

Sounds like you need to get your iPhone 8 Plus replaced or at least reset the software, as such a performance isn’t normal. I have an iPhone 8 as well as a Samsung Galaxy S8+, and whenever either phone runs ”like dogsh*t”, it’s almost without exception the Samsung.

Well, no actually what we are saying is that he should get it replaced instead of complaining about it—especially since it is such a premium product.

If they've done their research, they'd work out if their issue is widespread or not. We're not referring to the general smartphone feel here. The user has experienced problems with their device. A wise thing to do is not blanket ban a product (or brand) entirely until they do some research & eliminate the possibility of a faulty device.

If many others aren't experiencing that issue, then a replacement may be all that's needed.

Apple products are generally very solid, so if you've got a very glitchy phone, erase all your Apps to eliminate software. If glitch is still there, then it's a hardware issue....replace the thing.

If glitch is gone, then restore a backup....if the glitch returns, then one of the third party Apps are most likely the culprit.

Yes you do need to factor that in. Airpods work best with Apple products. They sync faster & allow more functions. They're designed for iPhones. A cheap pair of earbuds may or may not work as well. That's what you gamble with at the lower end, as with most products.

But if you're spending the cash on an X, compliment the thing with a half decent set of ear buds... it's the smart/logical thing to do. If you can't, then save some money on another phone & increase your budget on the buds.

The premium product may not be the issue. That's what proper research can confirm for you...before you decide oh 'this is the worst phone ever'...

Um, this is the alternative to apple / mac section of the forum right?

It's totally okay to have people who have bad experience with a product to share their experience. I mean I'm a huge fan of the samsung note 8 but it's okay if other people don't love it or if they hate it. Whatever float your boat right? I think the note have areas it can definitely improve on. I never really defend the note or samsung because someone really can have a bad experience with the product. In the same logic, not everyone will have a positive experience with a product or get the hype of a certain brand and that's okay.

That's a generalization based on your experience. In my experience, the airpods works much better on android than iPhone. When I get a call, the iPhone never answers with the airpods when you already have them in your ears. So you have to manually switch to the airpods. On android, you can set the setting to answer calls automatically when in bluetooth. I love this feature.
I felt forced to buy the airpod when i upgraded my iPhone and did not love the experience with the iPhone.

I have had some Android phones in the past, and then I always switch back and forth, but I think that the X is going to be my last iPhone unless they break the mold again one day with a revolutionary device. I'm not trying to bash Apple here, but I'm giving some of my personal reasons for why I'm ready to cut ties.

1. The iPhone is just too expensive (the X is the max that I would ever pay for a device, and IMO it's not worth it). I literally could have gotten a Pixel 2 XL, a Note 8 (a ridiculously expensive phone to begin with), or an S9+ for cheaper than my X. You could make a case for the 8, but the 8 is the lesser model and the X is the iPhone you want for 2018.

2. I miss having Google integrated directly into my hardware. Say what you want about privacy issues or whatever but Siri is just a terrible voice assistant, and it looks like Apple is fine with the way she runs.

3. My MacBook is getting dated, and I honestly don't see a compelling reason to spend $1,000 dollars on a laptop that can't do PC gaming like I want. I'm not into video editing, and I use Google Chrome as my primary browser.

4. I just honestly don't want to be tied down to one tech company going forward. If I permanently made the switch to Android/Windows I could get by with having Alexa or Google Home as my smart speaker in the future, I can move to Spotify and have it work on all of my devices, I can use different headphones rather than Airpods and Beats and get full functionality, and the list goes on and on and on. It's not that I hate Apple at all (I love my iPhone and my MacBook honestly), it's that I just don't want to be tied down to one company that I know is always going to have the most expensive items on the market. I'm getting to the point where I think that cutting edge tech should be getting cheaper. Look at Echo (much more functional) vs Home Pod (not as functional) $99 vs $349. Apple is just going to remain expensive because they're Apple and that's fine, but for me I'm looking at items that have the same functionality that are half as cheap.

I just think that I'm either going to get a Pixel 3 XL or maybe wait until early next year and the get the Galaxy S10. I'm probably also going to get a Surface Pro or a good Windows Laptop to replace my MacBook/iPad. I'll see how I feel in the Autumn, but right now I'm kind of regretting going with the X over the S9+ or Pixel 2XL

1. Can't blame you, Apple is gouging for sure. But the ip8/8+ is cheaper, and arguably the 8+ is a better phone because of the aspect ratio. I have a X, but kind of wish I had a 8+.

2. I hear you, it sucks to not have stuff like Google Voice integrated into the OS like it is on Android. I really have no use for any voice assistant though, it's easy enough to look up the basic stuff they provide anyway, and less frustrating as I can shape my search. I don't like the loss of privacy on Google, but some do love it and appreciate how all their information is readily available.

3. I can't stand MacOS, just way too clunky for my tastes. Plus I could never go back to a non touchscreen device, never, never, never, it would just feel too primitive. Lots and lots of really nice windows laptops and tablets out there, I love playing modern games on my surface pro.

4. I get by just fine with all windows PC's and an iPhone. It isn't perfect, and doesn't mesh as well as if I had a MacBook, but the pluses FAR outweigh the negatives, and I don't really consider the negatives as such.

If you don't mind the privacy issues I don't blame you for going to android. Android meshes better with PC's, especially with all the cool stuff Microsoft is doing like sharing phone data and letting you see the phone on your windows machine. That will always be the case as Apple will never cede over so much control, but by the same token it's why Apple has such good privacy and that's one of the main reasons I stay with them.

I have a real cheap set of bt earphones that I use and work perfectly on my X. I got tired of paying jaybird $180 every 2 years and just got a $28 pair off amazon, best decision I ever made.

As for the iphones being glitchy, I agree with him. My X stutters and freezes, has apps force close, has issues with reception at times, etc. Honestly it reminds me of a 2012 Samsung phone it's that bad. I still prefer it over Android though and it's what I choose to use as my daily driver, but man is it glitchy. Yeah I'm only one person so I won't try to make it seem like this is universal, but I know I don't have a faulty phone unless I've gotten unlucky 3x, well 4x if you count my wife's phone.

Have you tried to wipe the phone to see if a 'blank canvas' works smoothly? & then applied a backup to see if the glitches return?

Then wipe any unique 3rd party Apps which might be the cause.

1 choppy iPhone X is one thing, but 3? Something that's common across each device (App) will most likely be the culprit.

If you’re anything like me you’ll regret it. I had a 6s plus then got seduced by an android phone with just as good specs, better screen, better battery life and better price. Honestly, it was a mistake. Android just pales in comparison with iOS and the OS on a phone turns out to be just as if not more important than the hardware. Sure Apple charges a premium for their tech to make more profit but I am SO SO GLAD I got the iPhone 8 Plus now. Beats the pants off of android handsets. Don’t make my mistake.

As far as pc’s go I have a gaming laptop that I bought for £650 and see no good enough reason to get a MacBook that costs more just to get continuity (which is super handy) for that price difference.

The double tap and tapping on the earpods rarely worked from the beginning (like to pause or play, very hit and miss)lso the earpods don't fit in my ear securely. At the gym, the earpods sometimes fall out of one ear. I bought some silicone cover and it does help a lot but you cannot put them on with the charger so i already lost some of them.

Personally, i think the design of the earpods is not user friendly if it doesn't fit your ear size. Also it works well enough on android so I'll keep it for now. On android, you don't even need to tap on anything, it does it automatically. It's wonderful. Also this function works great in the car with your android auto and car bluetooth devices. So you can focused in driving.

I also have the Apple watch which when iOS answers the call, it does not know which one one to answer from in the bluetooth connection. Android also have this issue since i have the gear 2 watch but it have a good solution for it. I prefer answering automatically so i don't need to find the phone or need to tap to work.

I’ve gone to Android twice before and both times ended up coming back to iOS. I’m finding myself drawn to Android again, and - depending on its specs - I’m considering a Pixel 3.

I’ve had the same experience across 3 iPhone 8 pluses and 2 iPhone Xs. My father in laws 7 died after 13 months of use. My wife’s 8+ experiences the same freezes and glitches as mine and she hardly has any apps. My 2 year old iPad Pro freezes constantly. Apple is going downhill imo. Are they doomed? Of course not. Yes of course these are my personal experiences, why would I base my decision on anyone else’s? This is a “why I might leave Apple” thread, in an iOS alternative sub forum. Did you expect anything other than “complaints”?

Enjoy your iPhone, if it works for you then congratulations you’ve had a good experience. So stay with iOS and move along.

The silicone cover really help alot for using airpods in the gym but you can't charge with the cover on. So i already lost them.

The design really isn't user friendly as with many apple products. It's form over function.

That's unfortunate. There were others who also had issues with tap gestures, but they'd have to be in the minority.

Have a look at the thread I linked above. Many have had their fit made more secure with a solution that also fits in the charge case.

Yeah they can't get the fit right for 100% of people.

Though I'd say, through many reviews & people I've spoken to, that the Airpods design fits at least 90% of ears securely.

Also, one of the biggest complaints are the looks, so i'd say many believe the Airpods are function over form.

Sorry but that *fix* is hideous.
Not even going to attempt. Lol. I'll stick with silicone covers for now.

My personal view on all apple products is first is about the looks. I think everyone can agree here that most apple products look very sleek, modern, sexy etc. (Except for the notch on iPhone x and the trashcan mac pro, everything else is designed beautifully) They get you with the premium looks and material but functionality wise, you can find better alternatives. The user interface graphics is also very sleek. The design on apple products is one of the best if not the best. They made computers looks sexy and inspired other manufacturers to design less ugly computers and electronics. The airpods compared to other bluetooth headsets look more modern, and minimalistic in design language but function and fit is not ideal. It's too easy to lose 1 of the airpod.

I'd love to be an apple fangirl because i simply love the design (no one else make better looking electronics) but i just can't ignore the fact it's form over function on most everything apple creates.

The strive for thinness. Thus producing a very unreliable butterfly keyboard design on the macbook pro line. Removing of all usable ports... i can go on and on.

Anyways, there's no point for me to explain because it probably don't apply to you. I'm very design conscious but nowadays, other manufacturers are also churning out pretty nice high end looking products with more function for me( that I'm seeking) and that's why i left the apple ecosystem with little regret.

Yeah I've tried to wipe the phone, I had another issue where an app wasn't showing up in Apple Health and both the app devs and Apple couldn't figure it out so I ended up wiping. Plus all the replacement phones I haven't restored from backup just to be safe. I've encountered that buggy stuttering/freezing across multiple iPhone X's, but maybe I've just been unlucky. Sometimes system apps just freeze up and force close, other times they just slow down. I'm having issues with charging as well, only occasionally when charging the phone will get really hot and the entire OS will slow down to a very slow crawl, no rhyme or reason.

Exactly. My little bluetooth headphones honestly sound and work fine. Why should I have to invest in a new really expensive set for my already overpriced smartphone?

The bluetooth on this phone is not up to par with my Galaxy S7 Edge. It would go seamlessly from the car to my bluetooth headphones without a hiccup. I've turned my bluetooth headphones on, hit connect, and the iPhone X says they're out of range despite me having them around my neck at the time.
