Any news about some new NiBiTor version that recognize 32bit EFI? I have done cooler upgrade on stock Apple 8800GT (1st gen) and now I'd like to try some overclocking. Anoyone with success story?

Novatech no longer sell 8800GT Cards

For those in the UK, I just followed the link from the Ad on this site to Novatech and inquired about the EVGA Superclocked 8800GT.

I have just been informed by the sales rep that Novatech no longer sell 8800GT graphics cards - as they have been superseded and Novatech will not sell superseded cards!

Their website says they have ones coming into stock on 1st September but I am told that is an error on the website. There will be no 8800 cards available from Novatech.

So now I still need to find the EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR in the UK - any pointers anyone as to where I can find one?

Edited to say

Struggling to find the EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR or EVGA 512-P3-E802-AR in the UK
but have found a
EVGA 8800GTS SSC 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Card - anybody successfully flashed this card or can anyone see any reason it should not work?

I could use some help from the experts. I'm going to give you as much info as possible to help troubleshoot.

My Mac Pro was bought in Feb of 2007.

I bought the 8800GT card listed in the previous post, the eVGA model. It's the same part number as recommended.

I created a FAT32 partition in Vista and copied NVFLASH.EXE and the 8800GT32.ROM file from Altimeter to that drive.

I rebooted into the FreeDOS CD I created and choose the "DOS only" option, number 5.

I changed to the FAT32 partition and ran "NVFLASH --SAVE 8800orig.ROM.

I ran "NVFLASH -4 -5- -6 8800GT32.ROM". It said it completed successfully. I did a "NVFLASH --compare 8800GT32.ROM", and it said that they were the same.

I installed the 8800GT in my Mac Pro, making sure to attach the power supply from my old Radean x1900, which I removed from the system.

I started up the Mac Pro. I got the chime, and then the gray Apple screen, and then about 20 seconds later I get the transparent black "You Must Reboot Your Computer" screen (kernel panic?).

I reflashed back to the old ROM and was able to boot windows back up on my Vista machine. I retried the flash back to the Mac Pro rom and am still getting the panic.

Any ideas?

hi. Pleas tell how u fix this problem: (I started up the Mac Pro. I got the chime, and then the gray Apple screen, and then about 20 seconds later I get the transparent black "You Must Reboot Your Computer" screen).

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! That's why I love these forums, everyone's so quick to help out, and they're usually right :).

Waremaster has hit it on the head - I didn't install the Leopard graphics update. I'm a noob :). Thanks so much for the suggestion, Waremaster, everything is working perfectly now.

Had you read just ONE post further, you would have seen that he had fixed it.

Did anyone get any warnings while re-flashing their card?

I just re-flashed my eVGA E-GEFORCE 8800 GT and I got these warnings:

"EEPROM ID (C2,10): MX 25L1005 2.7-3.6V 1024Kx1S, page
WARNING: Firmware image PCI subsystem ID (10DE.054F) does not match adapter PCI subsystem ID (3842.C801)
WARNING: Firmware image board ID (901D) does not match adapter image board ID (9018)."

Then it warning me that the update may render the card useless and asked me if I want to continue 4 times. I continued all the way through.

I had to do this on a PC at work and I won't know if the card will work on my MAC until I get home tonight.

To those who sucessfully flashed their card, did you get all these warnings also?

Thanks.

The eVGA 8800GT card I flashed yesterday didn't work (if you read the previous post, this is the one where I got warnings while flashing). When I booted up, after the typical grey screen, apple logo and "hold-on-while-I-boot-up" animated circle thingy, I get an UNUSUAL light blue screen and then no response.

I double checked on the forums that my card, with the product code "EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR", had in fact been successfully re-flashed by other users. It has. Just in case, I tried flashing it again. This time on my own Mac Pro, and this time with no warnings. I tried booting up and got the same light blue screen.

Anyone else get this?

The power cable that came with my card was about an inch short of reaching the optical drive power connection. I cut the wires on the power cord to splice in a few extra inches. I don't think I did anything wrong, but who knows, maybe I did mess up the power cable.

What happens to the video card when you don't connect the extra power cable?

Thanks.

Thanks!

I finally got around to ordering an 8800GT for my Mac Pro, and thanks to your helpful information, managed to flash the card in just a few minutes. All works perfectly & I'm darn happy.

Thanks again for all the info!

EVGA 8800GT Superclocked Model number

Phantasm posted that he flashed a eVGA 8800 Superclocked. Is the the model with the part number ending in "DX" — previously the success reports were for the "AR". 512P3N802DX v. 512P3N802AR. I can only currently find the DX locally. (My existing Radeon X1900 just crapped out (from overheating it would seem)— and going back to my 7300 is painful).

I am
Thanks for the ROM!

Just flashed my EVGA 8800GT Superclocked and its working fine. I don't use bootcamp, so I can't report that side of things, but it's working fine in OSX 10.5.2.

Just managed to get myself a 2nd hand evga 8800GT (black and gold box) for $80 but it didnt come with a power cable!

What power cable do I need for the 6pin PCIE on the graphics card? Is the only option to get the ATI cable Ive seen someone on macrumors or is there a cheaper option?

Thanks!

Soon as I get a power cable sorted then I can get it flashed :)

edit:
Would this work ok : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-Pin-Molex-t...14&_trkparms=72:1345|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

Thanks, is it a simple 6pin to 6pin or 6pin to 8pin?
Living in the UK makes that cable expensive for postage etc

ATI's mini 6 to 6 is out of stock. If you need only one 6pin I suggest you give up your optical drive, because there is two 4pin you can use.If you need more than 2 I suggest you buy a independent video power.

How annoying, £18 for a cable for a card that cost me £55!

So instead of buying a cable I could just unplug the power from my DVDrw?

As long as you have the dual molex to six pin pci-e connector you may even be able to get away with a single molex to dual then use that to feed the dual to six pin thereby saving the dvdrw cable to power it. You can thank Apple for the annoyance for using non-standard connector to keep their lock in going just pulled it off again with the new Macbooks and the new non-standard mini display port connector...

Ive got a molex to 6 pin PCi cable, flashed the 8800GT in minutes and it works in OSX fine, but how the heck do I route the cable?

Theres no room to do it as the side panel leaves no gap atall for the cable to get from the top compartment to the GPU? Think Ill just buy the 6 pin to mini 6 pin, annoying!

As it's not the exact same model, and from eBay, I'd err on the side of caution, and skip it. Even with the 7day return policy.

eBay just makes me nervous on certain things, and computer hardware is one of them. ;)

My thoughts exactly.

Where can i find a working model N802-AR with some reasonable price? It seems that most well known sites (newegg, buy.com, amazon, and etc) are all out of stock, and only place that I can find is the ebay.

Can someone share where you bought yours from?

I bought my 8800 on eBay for less then $80 complete with box and all accessories.

I never understood why people worry so much about buying on eBay. If a seller has had his account for a while and has high positive feedback I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to buy from him/her. Additionally in case something goes wrong you can always dispute the charges if you paid with your credit card.

I really don't see what the big deal is. If I was you I would stick to eBay there are a few 512-P3-N801-AR on there right now.

I have been following this thread for awhile and I finally have something to add to it. I recently bought a 512-P3-N801-A1 and am offering my services as guinea pig. My flashed X1900 died a couple weeks ago and the old 7300GT just does not cut it. The price on the A1 was way too good to pass up even knowing I was taking a risk.

I searched/researched and from everything I can tell the A1 and the AR have the exact same specs but a slightly different retail package (Games came with the A1). On eVGa's website, each model is linked to the exact same spec sheet.

So in a couple days I should have the card and I am hoping I can report back success with flashing. If not, I will have a very cool looking door stop ;)
