I used to do this on all of my previous iOS updates. I'd re-download all my apps, sign in to each apps all over again. I'd just sync my music and photos etc. I'm actually new to using backups:oops: so thank you for clearing it up for me.
Backups are great for going from device to device. But if issues arise, a restore as new typically solves the problem, like horrible battery life.

Sorry bout that. Infant on one hand. Yes it is such a time consuming process. I remember though when I restored as new with last update, it still gave me signal issue and reset network fixed it. I was really surprised this actually worked because I had never really believed when Apple rep says try reset network first:confused:

Alright. So it has been exactly one hour since restore, set up and fully charge both devices. On 9.2.1, through 9.3B7, after 1 hour of standby, my iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2 would be at roughly 9 minutes of background usage (all apps closed, just normal background processing).

After 1 hour of standby, my iPhone 6s is at 8 minutes of usage and my Air 2 is at 3 minutes of usage. Clearly the restore worked to fix background usage, but for battery life it is too soon to tell.

-------
Edit: Battery is much better. 45 minutes of usage and 3 hours of stand by. Still at 100%. This morning I was at 45 minutes of usage and my device was down to 81%.

I noticed a better change in my battery life today. I posted earlier that watching a youtube video really drains it now for some reason. It drains it a lot faster than previous iOS versions. I would watch a five minute video with 60% and end with 50%...

Battery life has been deplorable after the update but now I'm happily seeing 11/12 hours of usage. Fingers crossed.

Batter life doesn't seem all that bad for me. I've got background refresh off for apps that don't really need them (for my typical usage)

Maybe I only noticed this cause I updated to 9.3, and the update did a full reset on the Battery usage stats.
I noticed this morning, while looking at the usage, that stats were showing the "Last 6 hours".

Each individual apps will give you the usage time as follow:
----------------------------------------
Facebook
25 mins on screen, 5 mins background

Instagram
10 mins on screen

Mail
10 mins on screen, 2 mins background
etc
-----------------------------------------
each individual app usage were adding up to 47 mins,
but my usage was showing 1 hour 2 mins
while my standby was 3 hours 20 mins.

Is it normal that all individual app usage time added up together gives you less than the total usage time?
What is the unaccounted 15 mins?

Background processes make up the other 15 minutes. Thats normal. Whats not normal is when your usage accounts for 10 minutes, but it says your usage is 3 hours and your stand by is 4 hours, like mine.
One thing to note. It seems that phone usage does not show up always in the total usage or its delays a LOT. I have seen almost 100% over all ios 8 and 9 that I can be on a 1 hr phone call 1st thing in morning but usage may only show like 10 min or so. But if u look at phone calls and total those times , the total usage shown is less than the phone calls alone.

Can someone teach me the difference choosing between 1)"restore from the back up" and 2)"set up as new" then restore from back up? I can't help thinking they Do the same thing. I'm talking about initial screen before we get to the actual sync screen.

Thanks. Because people are talking about "setup as new" so much making me want to restore again just to pick that option instead. So if we are to sync our backup on the next screen anyway we don't have to pick "setup as new", is this correct? This option is there for the people who will not use backup at all?
Pretty much same. I have found that after a restore backup THEN reset all settings seems to work well IF you have issues afterwards. So that keeps your data but defaults the settings to the new versions options. Again only if there are issues. I typically close all apps, reboot then update OTA and never seem to have any issues.

Updated from iOS8, iOS9 seems fine so far.

Just got a shocker looking at the new music app. Really one thing that i missed coming from the previous OS.
That was from iOS 8.4 as I recall.

Apples obsession with its vanity driven designs are the best thing that's ever happened to the ANKER corporation. I own six or seven of their excellent quality, superbly designed external smart batteries of various sizes and capacities.

You know your smartphone is a genuine iPhone... if no matter what year or model, the battery craps out halfway through a busy active day.

6S+ - initial findings.
  • Battery stays quite a while at 100% but drops quickly after. Appears to end my day at approx 25% lower than normal. Very preliminary.
  • Spotlight (pull down) has issue with keyboard behavior. The KB shows up from immediate to 3 seconds after pull down.
  • Stock Apple apps - getting infrequent mixed keyboards - Swype or stock. Random.
  • Airdrop - was bad before, broken now.
  • Stutters - ignoring and not looking

I don't want to point fingers just yet but I feel the battery life on my 6s + has dropped since updating to 9.3. How would one diagnose this?

Bad cellular signal for both of you, not surprising that your battery life is below your expectations.

Even with wifi calling enabled all the time? I thought that made a difference but guess not. I wish the phone showed me that was the reason why battery life is poor.

All location services are ON.

Also another finding. 3D touch skipping frames when in landscape. never had this issue since i bought this iPhone. Not on any of the betas, not on the update from beta 7 to final OTA. but now after doing clean restore and setting it up as new i have this issue. WTF.
I have read in a couple of these threads that cycling the Location Services Off and then back On seems to be giving the option back for Sunset to Sunrise. Maybe give that a try.

I'd like to see what's at the top of the list of apps being used.

Well, maybe I am wrong (and anyone here please correct me if it's the case), but I think that even if wifi is on, cellular antennas keep looking for a signal. It's not like they are turned off because you are on wifi. At least, I think. Again, someone correct me if I am wrong.

I have an iPhone 6. I recently moved to a (temporary) flat where both my cellular and wifi connections are not really great, plus I am working in an isolated laboratory where cellular connection is (obviously) bad, and my battery life has taken a hit. Before I was able to easily get 9-10 hours of battery life with a good cellular or wifi connection all day long, now it's more like ~7 hours. So yes, I believe that the quality of your connections, both cellular and wifi, have a major impact on battery life. I am moving to another flat in one month with better wifi and (hopefully) 4G, and I hope my battery life will slightly improve. But still, 7 hours of battery life is fine for me.
