It sure looks tempting. But does a less than 1" improvement matter ? Or are you considering waiting for next years 10.7" Pro with OLED Display when Apple takes away the Home Button and has all that Extra Space. ?

Apple is Extremely Market savvy and the 10.5" Pro looks amazing. But how outdated will it
Be when next years model has a seemless no Button look.

I'll admit I am tempted but there's nothing the 10.5" can do that the 9.7" Pro can not do that I know off.

For me, if Apple comes out with something better next year, I will likely sell and upgrade. The 120 refresh rate is going to be a huge differentiator from the 9.7 to 10.5, along with 4GB of ram, and obviously a 30/40% increase in speed/graphics is awesome also. I have already seen situations where the 9.7 can't multitask with 3 apps, but the 10.5 and 12.9 have no issue.

Yes they do that early Really

For The sample which features ?

Multitasking, the 9.7 is limited due to the 2GB of RAM.

Many of the new advanced iOS 11 features are unavailable on the old 9.7" iPad Pro. You should upgrade.
The faster screen refresh/processor/etc. (hardware features) are not what I'm concerned about. There will be some Pro apps that take advantage of the faster screen refresh I'm sure. But that's not what I'm referring to. Full blown iOS 11 will work just fine on the 9.7" Pro.

After starting this Thread and sleeping on this all Night. I changed my Mind.

-120hz
-HDR
-10-bit panel (can't have HDR unless its a 10-bit panel)

I am Buying the new 10.5 Pro But I will WAIT.

#1. Verizon usually has a great deal that Sprint matches Got my 32GB 9.7" Pro LTE Data ($729 for $529 matched by Sprint) So I'll wait for a deal
#2. MUST have 3GB RAM minimum if its 2GB RAM I am gonna pass Period no negotiations.
#3. Need to See Comparison in Real life in my hands. If the 120hz just works when scrolling or when Drawing.

Holding out with my 9.7 Pro until 3D Touch is introduced the iPad line. It's literally all I am wishing for at this point, but I am patient.

Yep, gets here 13 June along with the snazzy looking 'sleeve'. Yep, I'm a consumer sucker.

What mulitasking things will it not do? I have seen zero features in the iOS 11 list that say "limited to the 10.5" iPad Pro".

I saw an example in another thread, but they had two apps in split screen, and another windowed over both (messages) and you could only manipulate one of those apps. On the 10.5 and 12.9, those apps are all live. This could all change but I can't imagine 2GB of RAM performing well with the new multitasking features.

That was a screenshot I took on my 9.7" Pro. Once 2 apps are open in split view, opening an additional app will cause the previous ones to go inactive. On the 10.5 and 12.9 (1st & 2nd gens) all 3 apps stay active. Honestly, I don't think it's too big a deal.

Interesting. Early evidence that points to more RAM in the 10.5", good.

I'd be amazed if it came with anything less than 3gb given the iPhone 7 Plus, hoping for 4gb.

How is the beta performing for you on iPad?

Quite good, was expecting it to be worse than it is for a beta 1.

So nice to see a significant improvement to the iPad. Smile every time that I see the new dock and 'mission control'.

I want iOS 11 more than a new iPad Pro. I'm very happy with my current 9.7 Pro. It's still fast, handles Procreate, web, mail, etc just fine. I might upgrade when the next model arrives.

I'm quite intrigued by the new Pros (I've been itching for a much larger screen for a while), but iOS 11 on my 9.7 has made it feel like a whole new device.

I use my 9.7 for work, and the 12.9 for home. I'm going to wait and see how OS11 works on the 9.7 once it is released. In the meantime I'll play with the BETA on my 12.9. I'm hoping the performance of OS11 works okay on either machine. If not I'll sell both and get the the 10.5. The only downside is of course the cost of new cases, bags, and keyboards.

Yes, to replace two iPads- a Mini with Cellular and a Wifi only 9.7 Pro. The 10.5 is a 512GB with Cellular and enough storage to do serious photo editing. I'll get far more productivity out of it than my current kludge.

I'm just curious. Do you have any apps running on the background? Does it still occur after force closing all apps and a hard reset?

Just seems like a weird decision for this not to work on 2GB devices when the iPad (5th gen) was just released March 2017 and it comes with only 2GB RAM.

Just tried it, both force quitting all apps, as well as rebooting. Still the same. In fairness, it is beta 1, I guess it could change.

As for the iPad (5th gen), I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get all of the multitasking features that the new Pros do. And you can still do quite a bit of multitasking without this view.

How do you all know about OLED and the lack of home button?

Lack of home button is a big win as far as I'm concerned. That thing is stupid, and Android got rid of it 3 years ago (the typical lag time of Apple products nowadays, same with increased screen size of the iPhone, they ignored customer demands for 3 years).

I'm satisfied with the 9.7", will need to see the 10.5" in person to see if the screen size difference is actually going to make a difference

the iPad screen has started to feel small since I got an iPhone Plus

Multitasking, the 9.7 is limited due to the 2GB of RAM.

Somehow I really don't think App Switching in the form of Multitasking on iOS devices is solely restricted performance due to RAM.

Was the storage on each device the same during your application multitasking tests? (non 4K video exporting)

Which applications and size of working files?

I went from 9.7 Pro to 10,5. Took a hit on the sale of the 9.7 but it was worth it. More than any single feature, the combined impact of all of them makes it a much better experience. The difference in screen size is much more than it seems at first, and with all the improvements the difference in portability is not noticeable.
