Here it is, I guess the prediction was correct but the expected supply issues were about the iPhone: https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Te...2.5m-MacBooks-with-in-house-CPU-by-early-2021

CDW has our 16GB minis shipping first week of December.

I just ordered a laptop from them and canceled after it was reported in stock but went several days without shipping. It was a blessing in disguise though because M1 reviews came out while waiting so I could cancel before it shipped, haha. But point being the prediction could be optimistic.

You'll be happy to know -- and some of us have seen it already -- the delivery dates on these devices are moving up.

My Mini was originally scheduled for Dec. 23-30 and now it has moved to 16-23. I expect that date to move again as Apple generally underpromises on delivery in the same way airlines underpromise flight times.

When someone is making a bold blanket statement that COVID is not the reason for the delay in Apple's production and shipments then they need to back up such statements, otherwise don't say anything at all.

Who cares. Demanding proof for a statement with little on your own side means nothing. In any case it’s seems most likely Apple just didn’t give any retailers 16gb models as none of them have them. I doubt it would be any different if there wasnt COVID. Hell micro center doesn’t even have any M1 models. I can speculate as to why but like I said who really cares.

Actually now that I look aren’t all 16gb models CTO which means they won’t be in retail stores anyways?

My Air 16/256 has been at Dec. 8-15 since I ordered on the 13th. So sadly not looking like anything earlier here. I think the Mini is moving up because there is less back end demand for it, but i'm no expert on logistics, just basing it on what I see going on with the ship dates on the site for new orders. If I order the base M1 mini I can get it on Friday.

I already posted proof that the supply chain in China is not the issue. I hate it when people blindly support anything like that.
I hate it when people make blanket statements that can’t backup and when someone disagrees with them and doesn’t side with them against the “evil giant” called Apple they call them apologist or an Apple supporter. You posted no proof. ?

I will demand proof of anyone here when they state that COVID has nothing to do with delayed shipments. If you can’t prove anything then remain quiet. So much defense for a member you don’t even know. ?

I ordered the MacBookPro 16GB on launch day, and the Mac mini a week later, the first had estimated date on December 2nd, and the Mac mini on the 16th of dec. But they both arrived today.

Was the MacMini's RAM/SSD upgraded, or stock? Thanks!

When someone is making a bold blanket statement that COVID is not the reason for the delay in Apple's production and shipments then they need to back up such statements, otherwise don't say anything at all.
Life is too short for vitriol!

Let's tweak that comment to make a point.

”When someone is making a bold blanket statement that COVID IS THE reason for the delay in Apple's production and shipments of 16GB as opposed to 8GB models, then THEY need to back up such statements; otherwise, don't say anything at all.“

Let's chill out! Most of us come here for enjoyment, and to learn something, not to see ad hominem attacks or have people play Forum Cop, when they disagree with someone. We recognize nuance and slight slips and don't immediately launch broadsides and express outrage over supposed hyperbole. (Yes, I recognize the irony of my very post in that regard! )

Actually, come to think of it, maybe there's a gaming app in this... “Forum Cop”... sprinkle in some AI, multi-player participation, and a Turing Test, and see whether players can figure out which posts are real and which ones are the AI trolling! Feel free to use the idea; all I ask is credit and 5% of the revenue — less than Apple!

Happy Thanksgiving to all, no matter what your take is on the limited availability of 16GB models (!), and stay safe and well.

I was planning on ordering on the 27th to take advantage of the Black Friday promo and purchasing applecare with the gift card.

Had you done your research, you would have realised the M1's are not part of the Black Friday promo. No gift card.

Well if you had taken the time to read back through the thread instead of writing this super long soliloquy attempting to teach me proper forum etiquette you would've noticed that my initial comment was not a reply to anyone. I was saying that COVID was the reason for the production and shipping delays. A member replied and told me straight up I was wrong. I called them out on it and they couldn't prove me wrong. When someone tells a member they are wrong it's up to them to be the burden of proof, otherwise keep their views to themselves. What a laugh you saying people come here for enjoyment. Yeah I guess so. They enjoy trashing Apple. That's what this forum does daily. Have a good thanksgiving, and take your own advice in terms of needing to chill. I'm out. ?

It took about a week and a half for my 16gb air to come in. Apple was also kind enough to allow me to trade in my other MacBook Pro for and M1 Air even thought I already had the Pro for more than two months. They are beating their shipping estimates.

Just to update, the machines now go to January 7th. I know I should pull that trigger tomorrow, but that is f***ing RE-DICULOUSLY long to wait.

Again, they must be facing some sort of component shortage when it comes to the RAM, because anything with 16gb on my end goes to December 30th, a larger SSD then goes to January 7th.

Is this the largest company on earth or something?

And do the research, the labor in china is actually back to full force, actually producing MORE than before covid.

I ordered a 16gb 1tb gray and it’s currently set for shipping 12/10-12/17

For MBP and MBA, some stores (if not all) carry 16GB with 1TB SSD as an option. For MBP, it has to be the space gray color. For MBA, space gray and gold color both have 16GB/1TB available to pick up as well. unfortunately for the mini, all customized config has to be purchased online except the two-tier configs apple offers. At least this is the case for the stores around me.

How do I know and how do you check it for the stores near you?

Apple hides the fact in plain sight:

Go to the configuration page, choose the configuration combination you desire, and check the pickup status, if there is ever a blue hyperlink shows "Check another store", then it means this spec you configured is carried by stores. It may say "Currently unavailable at Apple Store XXX", which simply means the chosen store does not have it at the moment, but they will restock that configuration soon. If the configuration you want does not carry by the store, there will be no blue hyperlink and it will simply indicate "Apple Store Pickup is currently unavailable". check the example below.

View attachment 1679040

Apple has been doing this for a long time for various products, and it works like a charm every time I'm checking to see if a certain product configuration would ever be carried in stores.

Yes, completely understand the theory you put fourth.

There are actually THREE apple stores within a 7 mile radius of me.
I have been there, done that.

Each time I go to the site, I can clearly see that the MBA and the 8gb/256 MBP are available near me.
I could even get those at a Best Buy (and I would PREFER to get the machine at a BB due to their rewards program) however there is no option for stores.

In fact, there is no blue hyperlink for the 16gb version of anything. Any color.

For me (personally) it just says "unavailable for pickup" (or some sort of variation).

I have thought long and hard about using the 8gb variant. I have watched youtube videos that show that for video production (so long as it is FCPX which I do not use, I am an adobe user) it is literally 15-30 seconds faster in the 16gb version, however I also would prefer to have the machine for around 2 years before upgrading, and I'd rather not have buyers remorse next Christmas season on an 8gb as the 8k video workflow is literally 5x faster on a 16gb version.

It's strange to me, how one user (you) has such a different website experience than myself, and again there are THREE apple stores within just a few miles form me.

I sill haven't seen a compelling reason for the 16GiB RAM of the M1 machines. I'd wager that there's between 5x and 10x more 8GiB versus 16GiB RAM versions being sold, which would explain the longer lead times.

I didn't know the BB still exists and that people actively choose to use it.

I'm UK-based.

The only reason I look at it is that I work with video. In the best youtube video I've seen on it, at 8gb the static benchmarks are identical, at various types of 4k video editing (again only with final cut which I don't use) the difference is 15 and 30 seconds to output a file and then at 8k the difference between the 8gb and 16gb becomes literally 5x longer on the 8gb.

Seeing as I have a 6k camera, I imagine that within a few years I have an 8k and don't want to box myself in with whatever comes of my 2020 purchase.

BB is one of the best stores in the country lately. They were being destroyed by Amazon and did a lot to fix it.

Currently I spend enough to be eligible for 45 day returns of most products (excluding computers and mobile phones) and they always have what I want or get it to me as fast as Amazon.

They will protect their prices against sales (be it their own or a competitor) and I get pickup within an hour.

Plus they always have what I need in stock.

This is a great video to explain it

This is pretty disappointing to say the least. Did everyone ordering a 16gb version wait that long?
I was planning on ordering on the 27th to take advantage of the Black Friday promo and purchasing applecare with the gift card.

When I go to order, the option for 16 gigabytes changes the status to no store pickups, and delivery december 28-january 2nd.

I have researched this and it seems that at 8gb, working with 8k video takes 5x as long, everything else seems on par. Will I work with 8k? in the future yes, when? Who knows.

Am I really right to be concerned? Should I stick with 8gb? What did you do?
In the same boat. Wanted to sell mine MBPro 15 (2019), which is the only and primary machine for daily business, but considering the fact it's gonna be delivered within 5 weeks, had to cancel the idea of buying new M1.
