This is EXACTLY what I was expecting, so how could I be upset? The only minor thing that poked at me was the fact that they use a 4:3 screen instead of the usual widescreen, but I assume there is a reason for this (better screen space for the size, strength of the device, etc.).

I'll be buying one as this will be very useful for me to use both at home and at school. I have a 15" Macbook Pro which is just too awkward to use on the couch or at school. This device will be great for me. I also would like to start writing apps for it...just need a good idea :p

I was definitely disappointed just reading the live blogs as it was being presented. But after watching the keynote....im not so disappointed :)

Seems very intuitive to use, much better web experience than iphone/touch or a normal laptop, which is just what i need.

I think being able to run multiple 3rd party apps on the iPad will be beneficial, especially given its strong battery life, but likely not enough to stop me from buying it.

Girlfriend totally happy about it. She will get one sooner or later... Me... have to wait for at least one more generation... have plenty of MACs sitting around to play with right now... :D

I really cannot wait for the 3G version of the iPad. I think the pricing for 250MB of 3G data transfer is great. When I'm not at home or near a Wi-Fi hotspot, I won't be downloading tons of data. But yet, I'll still have 3G for casual internet access.

The original iPhone was a huge success, the 3G was a bigger success.

It seems to me that complaining nerds are slow learners. Apple ALWAYS introduces products "missing" features and then adds them over time. None of those revisions are made in response to angry complaints. Apple's product pipeline works years ahead, so they know full well where they're going. Apple is not a reactionary company and all of the bitter angry nerd complaints don't change a damn thing.

I agree 100%, and as someone else commented in a thread that with the iPhone, and Apple's growth there are allot of "new" Apple users that have been flooding the tech forums and have no clue about the history of Apple and how the go to market. I have used Apple products for 20 years along side many "pc" products as well. This looks like a very good start to a very cool new product.

I plan on purchasing one, although possibly waiting for the 3g model, as soon as they come to market. When I launch the Slingbox app on this thing it's going to be pretty damn sweet watching a 10" TV no matter where I am :)

i like it. people just haven't figured out what it is yet.

it's not a laptop. someday, they will understand. it's not a laptop.

it's an ipod for everything else. at least they hope it is.

anyway, i think it's pretty cool. i can't wait to see the next couple. :D

I think the low entry level price (no subscription required) and the high quality screen will sell a lot of iPads once people see it in action. I'm already regretting the $150 I spent on a digital picture frame because this would be so much better for sharing your photos with guests (or when you go visiting).

This was EXACTLY what I wanted the Apple tablet to be...

I am very happy and truly surprised at the great price.

Looks to be the perfect replacement for my Kindle, and with Pages app will let me do some light writing/editing. Perfect!

On the list to be notified and will pre-order as soon as possible.

I am currently thinking the 32GB (non 3G) model.

$600.00 is a good price - and I already have it saved up :)

Very Happy Here :D

*waaahhh, waaaahhh* FAIL Applez!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Oh sorry, wrong thread.

I myself need to play with it first before making a final decision. Looks pretty promising. It would be nice to have on the couch while watching TV or for taking on trips so I could have access to email or the internet if needed.

Wishlist:

Trial couch in all Apple stores.

I like it!

My biggest complaint is that I have to wait 2-3 months for it!
I'll definitely get one.
I can't say I'm not a little disappointed in some of the details, but overall I like it. It will be great for email/web/photo viewing at home.
My 32 GB iphone is only half full and most of that is music. I doubt I'll use the iPad for listening to music, so the 16GB version ought to be plenty for me.
I just need to decide on 3G or Wifi.

Also, I can't wait to see what it can do once they figure out how to jailbreak it ;)

See that is the kind of stuff that makes the base model a no brainer. It functions as an awesome digital picture frame with a million more awesome benefits.

I can potentially see myself having multiple ipads in the future. I am just not sure I will get one at release or not.

I could see them at different locations in my house to be used for content display from videos, to pics to whatever.

It's a portable computer.

For the tasks that most people employ portable computers for, you do not need a full keyboard because you don't type that much. If you are writing massive reports or screeds of emails, you might, but that just means that you are an abnormal user and really need a laptop. Most people I see at starbucks are web surfing, listening to music, watching videos, chatting or posting. Hardly requires the bulk of a full keyboard.

Similarly, you don't need a separate pointing device. The screen will do. Anything else just adds bulk.

Similarly, most people don't need anything like the computing power that a normal laptop has when they are sitting in a coffee shop.

Laptops are too bulky now and have too much storage for what most people do with them. Hell, who needs storage when you have the cloud?

Hell, I am sitting here watching TV and posting. I wish I had an iPad, it would be so much better for this than my MBP.

The iPad is what medium sized portable computers are going to look like in the future. If you can't see that, you're mentally impaired.

People whining about this are as dumb as those who complained about the mouse when it first came out.

EXACTLY! I can see having multiple ones as well. Especially when a new "must-have" version comes out. The old one can become a picture frame in the living room or electronic cookbook in the kitchen with the added benefit of email/web access, especially with mobile me keeping everything in sync.

I'm happy with it as well. Depending on how much money I have left after buying the latest MBP (if and when they update it), I could see the 32GB version w/3G working well for me, as long as they support College Textbooks in the iBookstore, and printing. Oh, and Bluetooth tethering might be handy too. :D

i think the ipad is pretty great. it would be absolutely perfect for my needs as a uni student - writing notes, sending/checking emails, listening to music, battery life of 5x that of my current laptop, light weight and portable. what more would i want?

the price is not too bad, could be lower but cold be alot higher. performance seems great too.

would i love multitasking? sure. do i need it? no. as long as i can play music and write notes - ill be fine.

good one apple

Me too. I'm debating the 3G or wifi only. Ah hell, I'm a 'go big or go home' kind of guy. 64GB 3G iPad it is :)

i wont be able to afford the 64GB model. but i am interested by the 3G model. 3G or wi-fi only? i am yet to see the data plans here in australia, nor the prices... data is VERY expensive over here. you're looking at $0.10Aus gets 10kb.

I was sad when Apple's switch to the intel chip brought a lot of Windows users into this forum. I was saddened even more when the iPhone brought a lot -- LOT -- more of them into this forum...... Ugh!

That said, as far as this new iPad is concerned, I'm excited about it in one way but I am also still trying to justify to myself why I "need" it..... I can quickly assure you that I "want" it but that's....um...different.

I'm happy overall with today's announcement and I think that this new device WILL bring a lot to the table that hasn't been there before.....

It's a dawn of the new approach to personal computing. Nothing more, nothing less. :)

I'm happy.

It's funny but I have a Kindle DX sitting (on a stand) next to me and this iPad looks a lot like it.

I think that Steve at first was reluctant with the e-reader format but now has apparently gone for it.

Thing is, i'm not going to give up the DX for this but the DX is terrible with pdf's and and any other format except simple text.

This iPad will fill the gap nicely I think. It also will do a variety of other things but it's manly going to be a reader for me.

I'm very excited. (I love e-readers)

You many not give up yours, but I'm giving up mine. Mine was a huge letdown recently as far as the textbooks go. I will be putting it up on eBay, together with my K2.

I think this fits the bill perfectly. I've been needing something that wasn't quite as bulky as my MacBook Pro. But something more powerful than my iPhone.

Something in between... and lo and behold, the iPad fits perfectly.

There's always people who complain. They do it with everything. Hell, I remember when the MacBook Air came out. "I'm so underwhelmed," they'd say. Blah blah blah. Now look — there's people who wouldn't give up their Air for anything. This may also fit in that category. Either way, I'm gonna get one! :)

Ever since I got my Ipod touch, I wanted a large screen version of it. iPad is exactly what I am looking for! Right now I can't think of any tablet that has the features that I want that's close to the iPad.

However, I think Apple is leaving the door open for Google and HTC to come in and take the cake with some of the features that were left out!

Data is typically very expencive here in Norway, too... but we have gotten a few breaks since the introduction of the iPhone.

Example: My carrier, Netcom, now has tree data plans (technically they have a few more, but these are the interesting ones):

- 100 MB per month: NOK 49,- (~USD 8).
- Free use between 17-08 (5PM-8AM) on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday: NOK 129,- (~USD 22).
- Free use: NOK 249,- (~USD 42).

I already have the 100MB plan for my iPhone, so I figured I'd get another of those for the iPad. But then last night I found out that the carriers here offer something called a twin SIM, so for NOK 30 per month I can get a second SIM card which only works for data and uses the same data plan as the main SIM.

It's almost too good to be true... :D

I have a both the 1st gen. MacBook and a 1st. gen. iPhone and I think the iPad will make it easier for me to extend the life of these two products (although I do plan to upgrade to the next gen. iPhone). With the purchase of a 3G capable iPad, I will be able to leave the MacBook at home on most short trips.

*** I also own a 2009 Mac mini.
