Hi Guys,

I have installed Martin's package 0.8.0 (upgrade from 0.6.7)
-SIP is disabled
-VMM flag was on

I created a BigSur bootable USB key, selected it via boot picker. I decided to do a clean install so I erased the main disk and followed the installation, I pointed to the disk to copy files and the installation process started fine, once all data was copied to the disk mac restarted but I got a grey circle grayed out. I tried to reboot into BigSUr recovery but it failed at the same moment also giving me that grey circle crossed.
What has worked for me in the past is try again. As lame as that sounds I found it worked when I was installing 12.5.

Hey all,

Small question. Unsure if this is the correct thread for this. I have a cMP 5,1 dual CPU model on latest firmware, reconstructed NVRAM (by @tsialex ), and an RX580 8GB model. I use two displays. One 1440p 75hz and one 1080p 60hz monitor. I use @h9826790 ‘s one size fit all config.plist from the 0.8.0 package. And I’m on OC 0.8.0.

The issue I’m having is that whenever I restart my Mac, to either boot into another OS, (high Sierra, Mojave, Monterey, [but not Windows]) or just turn off the computer to go whenever I go to sleep, the 1440p monitor (which is connected via DISPLAY PORT), also has an audio out for desktop speakers. In macOS ONLY the display after restart/boot (cold or warm boot) is not recognized as an audio option under the top bar audio option. However, once I unplug the display from the gpu, and replug it in macOS immediately recognizes it and it works.

Is this a config.plist issue? Should I update OC? Is there a boot argument I need? Any direction or person who has an idea please let me know. Thanks so much!!

-W

One small question:

I have clonned disk with Mojave with Carbon Copy Cloner onto the USB disk, when I conenct this disk and restart my mac, USB disk shows up in bootpicker but when I select to boot from it I see A prohibitory symbol.
Is there easy fix for it?

Not so small. There´s a bunch or reasons for that.

another atempt, went to bed at 3AM:

Mac pro 5.1 flashed to 144.0.0.0 with RX580 supporting metal but I can't see the native boot, single SSD with single partition for the purpouse of this upgrade.

I loaded fresh copy of Mojave from the USB, then installed Martin's Lo last 0.8.0 and use it with config that comes with it. I can reboot and it shows me open core boot pick.
I disabled SIP in Recovery mode, and set VMM flag.

then I started the in place upgrade by running "Install Big Sur.app" from application folder from Mojave.
Data was copied, mac rebooted and again showed me prohibitive sign, so I rebooted and and selected defaul drive after a while prohibitive sign again so another reboot I selected main disk and logged in to Mojave again, this time I can see two extra drives: "Untitled - Data" and "Update" BigSure install mene shows up and when I try selected "Untitled" drive it tells me I can only install BIgSur if I have Catalina on the drive, It allows me to install on "Untitled - Data"
Can I do upgrade to bigSur straight from Mojave?
What is the best Martin's Lo version for upgrading from Mojave to BigSur?

Thank you for any comments.

Date on my Mojave is 1401 June 31 maybe thats what causing the issue?

It's been long few days and nights....

No matter what I was doing BigSur was showing me inaccessibility symbol and I was either trying from scratch or installing new OSX, I did try Catalina, same results, I did few times BigSur, only Mojave worked without problems, So I left clean install of Mojave and finally I tried Monterey via apple updates, and also got the same inaccessibility symbol after first restart, it seemed like data was copied ok but something was happening after installation.

This time I just kept rebooting, it took 3 times and I finally saw the Monterey desktop. My Clean install of Mojave was updated to Monterey 12.6! I could not believe it, I'm suspecting if I would do the same with BigSur it would also work.
I used Martin Lo 0.8.0 open core with his last custom config, seperate file under attachments.
So far I did 10 reboots, shutdowns and everything seems to be working fine.

Question:

I have 4 disks in 2 Raid 0 that were working under old Mojave system, does anyone know how I can just move that stripe set under a clean install of Monterey? I have never did that before. Do I just insert all the disks in the same location and start the system?

You can move them without a single problem. it will be recognized. You don´t even have to insert them in the same location.

Anyone having issues with legacy wifi on the new Monterey? My legacy wifi opencore patcher is installed but this is what my wifi settings look like.

I installed with Opencore 0.8.0 with the config plist for macOS 12.4 - 12.X (only good for my 0.8.0 package).zip

Thank you!

Yep, lost that in the update before last… now with the latest update lost my ethernet drivers as well. :(
Trying to figure out the easiest way to restore them. Can we use time machine? reinstall monterey?

Hi all,
after installing OC 0.8.0 and Big Sur on my Mac Pro 5.1, everything runs fine, but I just realised that my two PCIe-NVMe raid drives now run only at regular speed like they would without the raid configuration.

Blackmagic Speed test shows approx. 1400MB/s instead of 2500 MB/s before.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

For some reason I am suddenly getting an "illegal hardware instructions" error when launching any python3 cli applications. I could not, for the life of me figure out why? I alternately switched to OCLP and the problem went away? Vmm is off, smbios true, so it shouldn't be emulating another machine? Mac 3,1 on Monterey 12.4. OC V 8.0 with the 12.4 config. OCLP boots so slow compared to ML package but I am currently forced to use it. Any idea how to activate fast booting in OCLP? Or fix issue in ML 8.0? Thanks!

Have just installed OC 0.8.0 on a MP 5.1 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2 GB Graphics card, and successfully installed Big Dur 11.7. Unfortunately now, sleep is broken. On 0.7.6 Sleep worked in both Mojave and Catalina partitions; is now broken on both the Mojave and Big Sur partitions. Guessing is an OC 0.8.0 issue as Mojave now has insomnia too!

Would be great to sort if you can think of anything - not least as electricity prices outrageous in the UK these days!

Thanks for all of your work - you have done more than anyone to stop endless cheesegrater macs heading to landfill!

I upgraded Monterey from 12.1 to 12.6.1 on OC 0.7.7. Seemed to work, but then wouldn't boot.
Then I updated OC to 0.8.0 (Martin's) and still no boot.
I had to re-bless the drive in recovery mode.
All good!

Greetings! Any idea why 0.8.0 is giving me this error when launching certain cli apps? I am getting "Illegal Hardware Instructions" error only in Monterey on my 3,1. It does not happen in Mojave or with 0.7.9 and the manually added AVXPel soft patches, nor with OCLP. I also added the OCLP config to the 0.8.0 ML version here and got same error leading me to believe it is an issue with opencore.efi build. Only a few apps give this error like htop, xboard and futurerestore-gui. (unsigned iOS downgrader) I suspect some AVX instructions are slipping through on the 3,1. This is with latest config and 0.8.0. Again, no issue with latest OCLP. But it boots so slow compared to ML OC package! What is the trick to get Monterey to boot so fast?

I think it's fixed by adding AVXPel patches instead of nozLib.kext. Works fine now.
