Update: Note 8 battery down to 40% after moderate usage from 7am to 10pm. About the same as my ip7plus. Gear 3 LTE watch down to 84% during that same time, which is much better than my series 2. Tracks steps well, has a stress meter, and took a phone call on the Gear today. Good sound quality both ways.

I got 5 hrs screen time on my T-Mobile Note 8 today with 1 day, 5 hrs standby. That is not bad at all. I've just had to recharge my battery for the third time since buying the phone on Friday.

My unlocked S8+ is still beating it though but that's because it's unlocked. I had the same experience with an unlocked S7 Edge and a T-Mobile S7 Edge. Unlocked always got better usage, especially standby.

I have moved syncing of files to DropBox and OneDrive. As for photos, I have migrated all of those to Google Photos, which is actually much better, imho, than iOS Photos.

I am on the upgrade program too, and just plan on selling my phone and paying it off. Selling my series 2 watch too. AT&T is selling the Samsung Watch for $50 with the Note 8, so I picked that up as well. There agian, I'm finding the Samsung watch to be just fine, and with some very nice touches and a better interface. I think it actually looks better.

I feel like Apple blinders have been taken off my eyes. There is a very good life beyond the Apple ecosystem.

That is a fantastic deal. Wait, did you have to sign up for monthly service on the watch? And we're you able to take advantage of the $300 trade in deal?

The latest phones from Apple and Samsung show that these products are taking very different and diverging paths. Apple continues down some path that is striving for glitz and “a-ha / wow” technology; while Samsung seems to be putting more focus on phone practicality. Neither the ip8 nor the iPhone X has a single new practical feature to make my busy life easier. Meanwhile, customization on the Note apperars to be easy, and the pen is a great add for me (especially the side note feature).

I will let you know how the transition goes... I still have an iPad and a MBP, so I will need to get them all to work together in some areas (to-do lists, etc.). Not worried about photos, since I have recently abaonded Photos and went to Google Photos, which is a great paltform. Won’t miss Siri, since that feature caused me more stress than it helped me. Might miss my Apple watch, but I've lived without one before and got along just fine. Plus, picked up an S3 from AT&T for $49 as part of a package. Might be good enough; I'll let you know how it compares to the Series 2.

Congrats. Once you go Galaxy Note you never go back. I switched awhile ago from iPhone 4S to Galaxy Note 2. It made the iPhone 4S and even recent models feel like dumb phones in comparison. I like how one Galaxy Note device replaces phone, tablet and Wacom tablet. With upcoming Galaxy Note 9 I hope it comes with Windows 10 DeX to also replace the work/home desktop PC.

Huh? The default email program on my S7 Edge is awesome. Plus if I don't like it there are about, hmmmm, 500 other email apps to choose from like Microsoft Outlook, etc. Awful huh? Not sure what you consider good, but I'm thinking it's not great.

I can't speak for the S7 Edge but I tried a few email clients a couple years ago. Not sure if it's gotten better but at the time they all couldn't display HTML emails properly.

Apple has a day to keep me as a customer. If the X isn't available in stock on the 27th, I am getting the Note 8 as well. Its a fantastic device and it actually made me think about breaking my Apple ecosystem. It may also have a better display than iPhone X which is another bonus

Doubtful or you wouldnt respond the way you are. You are lying just to push your agenda.

My agenda o_O

I'm on a Mac board to talk about Macs and iPhones. Why would I lie about a phone? Because I'm not enamored with the same phone you are? Phones I have had? I've had numerous Android phones, since the HTC Hero to a Note 7.

So what's your agenda?

Well be positive and talk about your iphones then, instead of being negative an antagonizing others about theirs. People are subjective and like to discuss the merits of IOS and Android, because we know its stupid to have a vs battle, and you can like both.

Please do; I too have an iPad and I am curious to know how it goes. What phone did you have before?

Hardware-wise I think Samsung hits a lot of good points (Though their fingerprint scanner is placed in a weird spot still) but I always and weary software-wise of heavily modded android OS's though Samsung is better about updates.

Agreed re: fingerprint scanner but INFINITELY better than none at all :)

[checks forum name]

So if I go on a Red Sox board I'm supposed to be shocked that people are pro Red Sox and don't like the Yankees?

Last I checked you are in the Alternate O/S. So this area is not about iPhones and MACs.

You may as well get it now that date is preorder date, available October 3.
[doublepost=1505863508][/doublepost]

why did you start a Note 8 v IP8 thread then ;)

I did in this area because it's was a discussion between the two devices. It's the proper area. I can't post about a Note 8 in the iPhone section or it will either get locked or moved here.

That's the real dream IMO a full OS on a smartphone. No not to be used when it's a phone, but to be used when connected to peripherals. Just like the surface pro came along and brought us out of the dark ages, I can't wait for the surface phone or whatever equivalent comes out.

Next year I hope my biggest decision is to get the surface phone or stay with Samsung if they have a foldable screen ready.

In another world (figuratively speaking), Microsoft would release the Surface Phone, and it would be killer. And everyone would realize it's brilliance -- it's a full blown computer, but in a smartphone body -- and they would all buy it. We would truly be in the future -- our laptops and phones would be one. And in fact I really DO think that's the ideal future.

Unfortunately, I don't think that'd ever happen. It's going to take a long time still for the current phone paradigm to shift, especially with the iPhone being the only considered option for so many folks.

A man can dream.

Unfortunately I agree with you. Besides Microsoft utterly blundering the mobile market so many times and the way they abandon their most loyal userbase, there are also alternatives which are becoming more powerful. Microsoft is way too slow and the PC-smartphone market will leave them behind like mobile did.

In reference to the bolded: How so?

As far as traditional desktops/laptops are concerned, people are saying the same thing about Apple abandoning their diehard userbase, no? In what ways would you like to see Microsoft improve?

I have never had any issue getting an Apple, product on launch day before. This is an exceptional launch but I hope my luck holds. Won't know unless I try. The Note 8mis available any time I want.

I'm not sure if you are being serious, or if you were part of a super secret government experiment where you were put into cryogenic sleep in 2005 and just woken up yesterday. Microsoft had the opportunity to own the mobile market, but dropped the ball very badly and today has virtually zero market share in terms of the smartphone space. Just ask any loyal windows phone, windows mobile, etc user if they feel abandoned.

It was the cryo sleep, for sure. ;)

Okay, I understand now. I thought that you were referring to desktop Windows users when you said "Microsoft has abandoned it's most loyal users," and I thought, "Huh?"

Yes, Microsoft totally bombed in mobile. It's such a shame because I really like the metro UI of Windows Phone! It was so smooth, far before Android managed to get there.
