Here's a video that shows what people mean. In it, they are using Nova launcher which offers the most customization, but even "standard" launchers from the likes of google, samsung, LG, etc...Offer more customization options than iOS because it's simply inherent to Android.

This to me is a novelty and doesn't really add anything to the overall experience. Not worth sacrificing the benefits of the Apple ecosystem and superior power of an iPhone. Just my opinion, to each there own as they say.

I'm with you 100% I've been with the iPhone since the 3G but after the last keynote, I can't stay with Apple. I've been around Android and loved the note series since 3 and had the 4 but only left them when new Apple devices were released but at this point the note 8 is amazing and using the iPhone 7 on my Google Fi plan works for me.

I have the note 8 for my primary phone and have the iPhone as a side phone but after the last release it was a joke and I'll stick with this and a iPhone 7.

Best of luck to everybody who gets an 8/X

I would switch, but I've been there before, and I know that I'll be wanting back into Apple/iOS. The vertical integration is just too strong of a pull. Being able to get messages across my MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPhone; being able to copy on one device and paste on another; having my AirPods synced to every device (although they really need to implement true fast switching).

They got me. And I am stuck.

I hate the notch. I dislike FaceID. But I really don't have much of a choice in what my next phone will be (besides the 8 Plus).

The latest phones from Apple and Samsung show that these products are taking very different and diverging paths. Apple continues down some path that is striving for glitz and “a-ha / wow” technology; while Samsung seems to be putting more focus on phone practicality. Neither the ip8 nor the iPhone X has a single new practical feature to make my busy life easier. Meanwhile, customization on the Note apperars to be easy, and the pen is a great add for me (especially the side note feature).

I will let you know how the transition goes... I still have an iPad and a MBP, so I will need to get them all to work together in some areas (to-do lists, etc.). Not worried about photos, since I have recently abaonded Photos and went to Google Photos, which is a great paltform. Won’t miss Siri, since that feature caused me more stress than it helped me. Might miss my Apple watch, but I've lived without one before and got along just fine. Plus, picked up an S3 from AT&T for $49 as part of a package. Might be good enough; I'll let you know how it compares to the Series 2.

I think you should let the iphone available first. Do the hands on experience, apart from pen maybe there's not much difference. Instead of Siri you can install google assistant etc on iphone. Once you see both device personally than i am sure could make the right decision. I am you must have seen note 8 personally and you got impress like me when i saw s8+ but i still want to be in iphone ecosystem. For me note 8 is way too big plus I don't have use for pen. I have little difficulty with s8+ which has 6.2" but trust me its easier to use than iphone 7 plus. Because s8+ is tall but they have cut the widths. Witdth iphone 7 plus 3.07", s8+ 2.88". For me note 8 height is too big 6.4". Even 6.2" looks little bigger for me even though i have large hands. I guess 6.0" is perfect height. Iphone x is 5.8"

The Note 8 is the best phone I have ever owned without a doubt! You can tell the difference in performance between a S8+ and the Note 8 because the 8 has 6GB RAM. I have both phones and I haven't been able to put my Note 8 down all day.

The last iPhone I bought besides my SE was the 6S and 6S+. No way would I spend money on another iPhone again. Apple has lost the excitement for me that they used to have.

How did you truly personalize your phone compared to the IPhone? This is not a bashing but I see this from people who want to or say they are switching to Android. I\
Hello. That's a fair question, I guess for me I don't even go too crazy compared to what some people say. But these are some examples of the things I love.

- I can out apps anywhere on the home screen rather than from top left to bottom right (this is something so small but I love!)
- apps I don't want on homescreen I can hide in an app drawer.
- with the Note I can much more easily launch two apps at once in multitasking. (hopefully this comes to the other phones soon!).
- using other launchers for the home screen I can set different actions to do different things. For example a swipe down anywhere brings down my notifications. A swipe up anywhere brings up my app drawer. I find even reaching for the top on an iPhone 4.7" a bit inconvenient now!
- A swipe up on my phone icon directly dials my mum (my most frequently used contact).

That's just some examples. Also, while I don't really use widgets, some are really useful. I like giving one entire homescreen to a transparent calendar widget. So I don't ever have to open the app.

I just think I can make my homescreen look so much cleaner and more pleasing for me and I've attached a pic. On iOS all those icons would be at the top and cover my wallpaper.

Also icon packs are cool!

Hope that gives some insight, not for everyone. But definitely for me.

Good Luck! The Samsung Note 8 is a beautiful phone and for the right owner is a keeper.

For me, I guess I got used to the iOS "ecosystem" and after having the Note 8 for 2 days I couldn't get past using Google Music, Messenger, crappy keyboard(which I purchased an App but was still crappy) and no Face Time. Frankly it was a pain in the arse to get used to Android, it was more narrow than my 6 plus. But if you have the patience and are one of those people that like to mess around with phones then it's for you.

If I could take the Note 8 and put iOS in it I would keep it forever!

Yes the keyboard on android system is really unreliable. No face time too, no visual voicemail. But Screen is beautiful but way too big. Text, camera, phone rest are okay. Apple is simple but solid performance.

With all the Android Malware out there (including plenty of apps in the Google App Store) I would be scared to ever use my online banking app or other apps that access personal data.

Also, every Android app I have ever tried has a far superior iOS version.

And finally, no iMessages means no Android for me.

That's true it feel more secure on iphone than android specially business/banking thing.

I’d really like to move to a Note 8 or S8 but like many others have said, I’m pretty tied to iOS for both work and leisure and most of my family and friends are too. The fact that it integrates across desktop, iPad mobile and watch is just too convenient now.

I’m a bit bored with iPhones but working with an SE just now and have ordered an 8. As B.B. King says though, the thrill has gone!

How do you get texts on the Mac and iPad? Thats one of the things I would need if I switched.
There are apps such as Join that push your notifications to the desktop. It's not as slick as iMessage. But you can get ANY notification pushed to your computer.

Not sure about iPad as I just use that as a separate device. I don't use it for messaging really.

This isn't a hater post but rather a genuine question, what do people find the pen useful for?
I love my apple pencil with my iPad pro but it is much larger and feels like an actual pen. on something so small it feels like typing would just be easier.

I don't like the idea of using pen on phone. Like using pen/pencil on iPads/surface pro.

Mainly for navigation (e.g. I just click things or move around the OS), off screen quick memos and colouring in apps lol.

Also marking up screenshots and the occasional document signing.

It's a niche feature but I'm always glad to have it.

Have you check out SideSync on Galaxy?
I use this for integration with PC/notebook. It is less cumbersome and more straightforward than Apple ecosystem.

Thanks for getting out of the way for people who really want to preorder the X. We really appreciate it, now stop posting here, thanks.

Huh? That's really not called for. You get salty because someone is trying something different. You do know Macrumors post headlines about android and aren't negative? It's a sexy phone as is the Samsung galaxy s8 plus I own one I like both operating systems I just choose iOS due to iMessage if android tackles that issue correctly ball game back on.

i would probably go with the S8+ instead of the note 8. it has a bigger battery, better form factor and the only thing that's "worse" is that it doesn't have a dual camera but the note 8 is a great phone

Regarding the Note 8 or S8+, The customization is awesome. The beauty of the phone is awesome. BUT, when it comes to Mail, Messages, and the basic phone app, iOS blows Android out of the water. I find anytime I use or try an android device, it's 110% awkward to use for the most common tasks such as Mail, Messages and Phone. Feels like I am using an abomination of some other OS. There is a fluidity to iOS that Android doesn't have.

I have to say I did just purchase the 8+ but the LG V30 and Pixel XL 2 will make me wonder. I have had he note series before and it was great but the lack of quick updates bothered me. I did play with the S8 active last night and it was great too. If I could get an unlocked version....hmmm

Hi I bought an S8+ when it first cme out and at first I thought it was awsome much better then iphone. As the months went buy I realized I really did not like using the phone. The hardware its self is top of the line but the software is where all these android phone lose me and I hate using it. A two step process on ios can take 4 or 5 steps to do the same exact thing on Android. Most of the stuff is buried so deep in differnt menus and options that its crazy. The software has so many stuff you can do but its like they thought the more it has the better and it makes the phone such a hassle to find and do anything in it. I have had the phone lock up on me at least twice a week for the last month causing me to reboot it to fix it. In the end I am going back to ios and don't ever plan to come back to any android device. This is just my opinion and what I experience with my S8+. I hope you like and enjoy your note 8.

I think that is why I am sort of waiting to see the Pixel 2 and what it does. At least the updates will come quick and reliably very Apple-esque. But the Note 8....its such a nice device hardware-wise. I get there are a lot of reasons why they can't but I would love it if they could do an almost straight google image on a Note 8 device.

The Note 8 is an awesome phone. I'v had it a couple of days and the screen is awesome, and I am loving it so much.

It is slightly bigger than my iPhone 7 Plus, but honestly neither would fit in my pockets anyway. So what is a tad bigger going to do haha.

Aside from iMessages, everything is syncing quite well with my iPad and iMac. I will never not use a mac computer so I'm glad for that! I use Google Calendar and it syncs with iCal, etc etc.

The stock browser is just as good if not better than Safari. Adblocking works a ton better, I could never get the iPhone to block ads in Safari.

I think the few annoyances for me is:

- The Visual Voicemail. I am use to all the contacts, phone, and voicemail being together and now there are separate apps for all of them. Plus I have to use the carrier app for voicemail and you have to pay for better features. No thanks verizon. I'll stick with the basic. But it kinda sucks.

- I love all of the choices but man I get confused sometimes. For example, when to use Google Now/Google Assistant vs Bixby.

- Since I have G Suite, some of the google features aren't available to me. But hey at least google doesn't comb through my emails.

- I hate the stock keyboard, so I am using GBoard. But now I can't send gifs in texts. And yes I love emojis and gifs. I'm trying to figure out how to fix this but I don't want to change the messages app since I like the stock one.

-I hate all of the extra verizon crap added. It is 2017 verizon, we don't need your crap apps. It reminds me of the pre 2007 days of phones.

But in the grand scheme of things, I am glad I tried something else because I was disappointed in the Keynote. I'll give it a year and see how I feel this time next year, but I have to say I am liking it wayyyy more than I thought. While waiting for it to ship I was prepared to return it, and go back to my iphone 7 plus.

Nice write up! That is the one thing that still bugs me a bit why Google feels the need alone for like 3-4 different messaging apps and the Samsung adds in their own. Fortunately you can easily replace the default apps but still if you are a new user there is nothing user friendly about it.
