I'll be keeping my iPhone X for AT LEAST another 2 years. Performance is great, camera is very good, and overall I'm very happy with the phone. I used to be an "upgrade every year" guy, but the last couple years I haven't seen a big enough incentive to do that. I can definitely see the attractiveness of getting the latest and greatest though ...

I really like the design.

Reminds me of this.

Interesting ...

I wonder if this is where their inspiration came from.

I'm in the I could care less about what the back looks like camp too. I don't make my upgrade decisions until the new iPhone's announced and see what it has to offer over my current iPhone (currently a Max). If I decide it's worth it, then yeah, I'll go for it, but the look of the camera isn't going to have an influence on my decision.

Doubtful. I'll probably just hold on to my Xs. But I will save a definitive decision until after Apple announces the new devices in September.

I joined the upgrade plan last year but I remain completely satisfied with my XS. Come September, I’ll wait until the new phones have launched and the reviews are out and then decide whether to upgrade or just pay the loan off.

It’s not my favorite design but if I was to upgrade this would not stop me.

I’m sure that even if I’m not too keen on the design on the first look I would get used to it.

More than happy at the moment with my XS, but you never know !

Jumping off the annual upgrader wagon for the first time since 2012. More than happy with my XS Max. Just waiting for a fresh lick of paint with iOS 13 beta 1

i feel like the X will be one of the first iPhones that will be as fast as brand new on its third year. So maybe not. Last time, the 6 got super slow on ios 10.

Nope. Probably gonna keep the XR until it’s no longer supported. Even if I did upgrade annually, there is no way I would get something that looks that hideous

So reading through my news stories today I keep seeing stories show up about the leaked iPhone 11 images. I hope this is not true because I think the design is ugly and not “Apple Like”. If you haven’t read the articles or seen the pictures, check out the link below. Do you share the same thoughts as me or do you like this rumored design? Will you be upgrading?

Almost all of your statements have been made repeatedly over the last 6-8 years of iPhones. Then people get over it. You will as well—one way or another.

I buy phones for 3+ years and just bought an XR so no, no matter the new features.

It looks like the X/XS with 4 camera, no major design change on the surface. I am hoping for new iPad style metal block! One can be hopeful right?

I’d wait for the wow factor to decide in Sept, ‘am not overly excited about the camera bump. 8 months on, my Max feels like a month old phone;)

This might just be the year I keep my wallet shut, who knows!

I'm hghly doubtful they're convincing X owners to upgrade to a new phone if the only difference is a third camera that nobody knows what's for (and nobody cared for anyway, see XR sales)..

I want to upgrade my XR but I want a new design.

Of course no one knows what that third camera will be for, Apple hasn't even demoed anything. That said, the triple lens camera Will be the next major revision for the camera upgrade for the iPhone since the dual camera on the 7 Plus, iId say this year has a lot of potential to offer something big for the camera, and Apple doesn’t want the unsuspecting/competition to know exactly what this is capable of producing.

Strange, didn’t Apple just upgrade the ‘new iPhone design entirely in 2017? (Rhetorical) I mean, your post doesn’t really explain anything specific, but how often do you expect Apple to change to a ‘new’ design on an iPhone, let alone a smart phone (Rhetorical again). Smart phones don’t dramatically change on an annual basis.

I always used to defend the Intel modem chip's performance. That changed last weekend, when my wife and I were visiting a friend at a hospital. My iPhone X (the GSM model) had no service, while my wife's Galaxy S9 (equipped with a Qualcomm modem) had a decent LTE connection. If this year's iPhones ship with Intel modems, I will probably wait until the 2020 model.

This is one thing that a lot of people miss or don’t think about. The intel mobile modems suck. They’re just not good. There’s a reason why they shut down there mobile chip business. The truth of the matter is that I know a lot of people see as Apple can do no wrong. “No matter what they put out I’ll purchase it”. Trust me I used to be that way. I have upgraded to EVERY iPhone EVERY YEAR. Yes I had the 5c and the 5s. I also have the XS Max and the Xʀ. They both use intel chips, but to be honest my Xʀ gets better reception than my “4X4 MIMO” XS Max. Why? How? It all starts with the mobile chip. The 4X4 MIMO does us no good if the mobile chip inside the device is garbage. That’s what intel modems are. Even the biggest Apple “sheep” has to see the writing on the wall. Apple had no choice but to settle with Qualcomm or risk losing even more market share. I’m on iPhone person. I can’t bring myself to go over to Android. I have tried. I tried the Note 8, the Galaxy S8 plus. I even tried a OnePlus 6. I have not tried any Pixel devices as of yet, but I do see how improved Samsung has made there UI with OneUI.

As far as the iPhone 11 or whatever it may be called... I’m not sure yet. I’ve said that a few times though. I planned on passing the 7 and keeping my 6s until the 8 came. That didn’t happen lol. I got the 7. I got the 8 and 8 Plus when they launched and I also got the iPhone X when it launched. However I feel a little different this year. My XS Max is practically brand new as I’ve used it maybe a total of 2 months since I’ve had it. I used it for the 6 weeks prior to the Xʀ and I may have used it a total of 2 weeks since then ... MAYBE. I like the screen size of the Xʀ. The 6.1” display seems to be a perfect size to me. The Max is not like overly huge or anything, but I like the size of the Xʀ more. While I believe the XS Max to be the best iPhone that’s a apple has ever launched.. I do also find it disappointing. Due to the reception issues that came along with it (I realize they’ve been “fixed”).

I feel like if Apple adds some good features to the iPhone 11 then enough people will buy it. I feel like Apple Pencil support would be great for the iPhone. The 3 cameras will be great I’m sure. I don’t care for the setup, but they will be great cameras. Apple will always have there “loyalists” such as myself, but how many of those could be thinking like myself? I’m not sure to be honest, but as of right now I feel like I won’t buy another iPhone until they have Qualcomm modems.

Camera square looks a bit odd, and is definitely not what I expect to see coming from a company that prides itself on incredible industrial design.

That being said, I rarely rock the phone naked and usually opt for one of the Apple brand silicone or leather cases. The square will be less of an issue at that point.

And yes also add me to the "well it's the back of my phone and I'm usually looking at the screen on the front" camp

Definitely. I'll take any camera upgrades I can get in an Apple body, whether they be significant or incremental.

i won't upgrade even though i am on an iPhone 6s.
i will wait until March 2020 when the rumored replacement for iPhone 8 comes out.

my 6s takes great photos.

I am on 7 and also do not want to go bigger than that for chassis size, weight, etc. If they manage to fit bigger screen into a new 8 body, that will be interesting!

No. I have the iPhone X. I’ll wait for a redesign. I also want 5G and that time of flight sensor for the camera sensor. So it’s likely 2020 for me. I’m also hoping Apple also improves the low light capabilities with its cameras this year or next.

I'm a former Android user who switched to iOS when the iPhone 6 came out. Since then, I tried going back on two occasions (HTC U11 and the original Pixel), but couldn't last more than a few days. Android is just not my cup of tea anymore. I still haven't made a final decision on whether or not I will be upgrading this year - as much as I'd love to have a new phone, I'm not so sure that it's fiscally wise to spend over a grand on a phone that I will only keep for a year. With the rumored 5G iPhone coming in 2020, as well as the return of Qualcomm modems, I'm really considering holding on to my iPhone X for another year.

Just a couple of years ago, I couldn't envision keeping a phone for more than a year and a half. Having recently become a homeowner, my priorities have certainly changed.
