This is one thing that a lot of people miss or don’t think about. The intel mobile modems suck. They’re just not good.

Eh... I had a Qualcomm X last year, and I don't see a drop off between that and my XS. If anything, the XS has better real world performance.

Yes I will, for two reasons at least:

1. I have a Galaxy S10e and I like it, but I'm nowhere near as impressed as I thought I might be.
2. Every single phone I've ever owned has been clad in a case from about 5 minutes after I owned it until the time I sold it.

I don't spend so much time ogling my phone that I'm going to get all that butthurt about the camera placement design.

I upgrade every year, and I will this year too. The Max has been one of my favourite iPhones, and I can't wait to have the triple camera setup. That alone for me makes the upgrade worth it, but I'd also love to see:

- fast refresh OLED
- real water resistance so I can take it with me to the beach and water park
- 45-60w usb-c pd
- larger aperture front cam with IS and 4K
- IS on the ultra wide lens
- night mode
- expanded dynamic range in 4k60 video
- HDR10+
- I'm dreaming, but 10-bit high bitrate video
- video bokeh mode

Mostly camera stuff I guess, the rest is pretty good right now. I mean iOS could be better... File system, render desktop pages better etc.

I hope that’s not design of this year iPhone. For now, I’ll definitely don’t even think about upgrade, my iPhone X is in pristine condition after year and a half, and works flawless.

If the camera improvements are as great as they sound like then yes and being on an annual upgrade it’s a no brainer

If we lose force touch then I will not upgrade. If force touch stays, I will.

I refuse to lose all the features of force touch so my XS could be the longest I ever own a phone.

The intel modems aren’t AS fast as the Qualcomm modems BUT are you going to see a real world difference? Absolutely not. It’s been blown way out of proportion. If we were dealing with 5G speeds you’d be more likely to tell the difference but the average user wouldn’t notice.

This was a deciding factor for me too. I really enjoy 3D Touch and don’t want an iPhone without it. Lots of complaints from XR users that the replacement long touch isn’t a great solution. It looks all but certain 3D Touch isn’t going to be around going forward so I’ll enjoy the XS until 2020 or 21. It’s a great phone!

How are you certain? Any source? I ask, because it’s only been rumored briefly that 3D Touch won’t be for the 2019 iPhones, but the same was that about the 2018 iPhones and 3D Touch was still in existence for the XS.

I have two XS Max. One is on iUP and other is sim free. The one on iUP is strictly for iOS beta testing and never leaves the house. The sim free mode is my daily driver. So the one on iUP will be upgraded come September regardless of its design and again will be used for iOS beta testing. I won’t plan on upgrading my daily driver and will be keeping the sim free model for at least 3+ years.

This is one thing that a lot of people miss or don’t think about. The intel mobile modems suck. They’re just not good. There’s a reason why they shut down there mobile chip business. The truth of the matter is that I know a lot of people see as Apple can do no wrong. “No matter what they put out I’ll purchase it”. Trust me I used to be that way. I have upgraded to EVERY iPhone EVERY YEAR. Yes I had the 5c and the 5s. I also have the XS Max and the Xʀ. They both use intel chips, but to be honest my Xʀ gets better reception than my “4X4 MIMO” XS Max. Why? How? It all starts with the mobile chip. The 4X4 MIMO does us no good if the mobile chip inside the device is garbage. That’s what intel modems are. Even the biggest Apple “sheep” has to see the writing on the wall. Apple had no choice but to settle with Qualcomm or risk losing even more market share. I’m on iPhone person. I can’t bring myself to go over to Android. I have tried. I tried the Note 8, the Galaxy S8 plus. I even tried a OnePlus 6. I have not tried any Pixel devices as of yet, but I do see how improved Samsung has made there UI with OneUI.

As far as the iPhone 11 or whatever it may be called... I’m not sure yet. I’ve said that a few times though. I planned on passing the 7 and keeping my 6s until the 8 came. That didn’t happen lol. I got the 7. I got the 8 and 8 Plus when they launched and I also got the iPhone X when it launched. However I feel a little different this year. My XS Max is practically brand new as I’ve used it maybe a total of 2 months since I’ve had it. I used it for the 6 weeks prior to the Xʀ and I may have used it a total of 2 weeks since then ... MAYBE. I like the screen size of the Xʀ. The 6.1” display seems to be a perfect size to me. The Max is not like overly huge or anything, but I like the size of the Xʀ more. While I believe the XS Max to be the best iPhone that’s a apple has ever launched.. I do also find it disappointing. Due to the reception issues that came along with it (I realize they’ve been “fixed”).

I feel like if Apple adds some good features to the iPhone 11 then enough people will buy it. I feel like Apple Pencil support would be great for the iPhone. The 3 cameras will be great I’m sure. I don’t care for the setup, but they will be great cameras. Apple will always have there “loyalists” such as myself, but how many of those could be thinking like myself? I’m not sure to be honest, but as of right now I feel like I won’t buy another iPhone until they have Qualcomm modems.
I totally agree with you.

I don’t buy phones based on how they look. I buy them based on their features and what they offer over the phone I currently have.

I’d agree, and so would the average consumer. But members on here aren’t exactly ‘average’. Apple knows the target demographic for phone features is to demonstrate what the phone is capable of, that’s initially what sells the phone, is the functionality of new technology. I’ve never encountered anyone in all my years of being an Apple enthusiast, saying ‘I won’t buy this Apple product because it’s ugly’.

I think the rumours about the removal of 3DTouch are quite worrying. It’s such a cool technology and I get a lot of people have no clue it’s there or use it, but it’s nice to have. Having tried out the XR and the software version of long press, it’s nowhere near as good. I hope they keep it.

Okay maybe certain was a strong word choice but I recall Kuo (Apple oracle) and the WSJ analyst stating as much a few times. That’s not to say he’s always right but he has a better track record on these things than your average apple rumor mill. I think I also remember that the component cost for 3DT is significant so it seems like an easy target to keep the price stable/down. Say apple shocks the world with a $100 price cut in September for the Xs successor, seems like 3DT would be an easier cut as they’ve shown on the Xr.
