I don’t like it and it seems you can’t get a stainless steel Series 3 without having to endure it.

I just want an answer, I mean is it so we can standout as oooobbhh look at the red dot, they have a cellular watch.

I don’t get it, hate is not what I feel, I feel why?o_O

I guess to me it doesn’t matter that much, but I don’t get it.

It reminds me of the original AW that Tim Cook was wearing. SS. White Sport Band. Red dot.

It's part of why those places that sell dots to stick on were selling them.

They didnt even explain why its there lol

Since it turns out the front glass is where the antenna is

Very strange,

Hah, you saved me the trouble of finding an answer to the question of how best to punch the right size circle. Antique white should do the trick for me.

Too bad the non-LTE model doesn't offer stainless/sapphire.

I wish a non-LTE SS was an option.

So do I as that's what I really need, but from what I've seen so far it's fine to just not activate the service and use it just like we do now.

Is still a bit annoying to have to pay for the hardware, but at least we can change our minds later without having to exchange the watch.

I would consider aluminum if I didn't have several bands meant for stainless (including the pricey Milanese Loop I got with my watch back in 2015) and if the aluminum watches had sapphire crystals and backs.

Yes, I was wondering this as well. They could have at least elaborated the purpose or their intentions with this red dot. But that's how Apple is, they mysteriously don't talk about some of those obvious features, even though they discuss some of the technical things.

At least it wasn’t a flashing red LED to indicate an incoming call.

I didn't think Apple would do that. It's strictly cosmetic with this red dot. Although it does not look to off putting on the space gray sport Model.

Yes its there to differentiate the two models and show that you have a cellular version of the apple watch.

In and of itself I have no problem with it. However it genuinely limits the options of people choosing to buy anything other than a monochrome band.

If they really wanted red accents I think they could have done it with a finer detail. perhaps it's just a ring rather than a full dot on the crown or maybe an edging detail on the back sapphire panel, which would differentiate it but only really be visible when you take it off.

That’s exactly why I don’t buy Sport watches. I would ruin a watch with a glass front and composite back.

I’m too used to the SS.

I don't like it, and I have a hard time believing that Apple put it on there. But it won't stop me from buying one if I figure out a way to make the LTE Watch work with my company-provided iPhone 7.

I wear my AWS2 crown in, so the red dot won't be very visible to anyone but me. (Using the crown with my thumb and the screen with my forefinger is so much more natural than the other way around.)

I don't like it either. My guess it's Apple's way of making sure everyone knows who has the newest watch. Still might consider buying one for the features. It will be interesting to see if a cottage industry springs up to dig out the plastic insert and replace it with a choice of colors. (I don't see a sticker working that well)

When the watch first came out there was a 'start up' company that were offering coloured dots to put on your crown. They decided it wasn't going to be worth it based on the small amount of interest they got and stopped producing them...can't remember what they called themselves though.

Well you can always get a set of WatchDots, they have lots of colors to use on the Stem and also the side switch.

Looks like they may need to come out with an aluminum silver and space grey dot...for those who want cover up the red dot and keep it 'neutral'.

Not sure if they'd be properly match the finishes very accurately (especially SS), and may end up looking even worse.

Black would be the way to go me thinks!

It's hideous, out of place, and distracting. Just like the notch on the iPhone X. The design team has lost their minds.
Team? Well the buck stops with the Chief Design Officer. But then it's increasingly evident Jony Ive lost his way when he lost the one man that brought out the best in him and kept a very tight rein on the worst.

Pre-2011... "we need to differentiate the cellular model" SJ: "I wanna see 20 different options in the metal by daybreak tomorrow or else I'll be firing some of you"

Post-2012..." a red dot you say? Uh ok that'll do I guess. Right, job done, what's next on the list?"
