I can get past the red dot, honestly. There are a lot of high-end watches with one or more extravagant design flourishes. I see the red dot as the same. Sort of like red stitching on a black leather band or a vibrant color on the second hand.

With all the people walking around wearing the most electric, vibrant shoe color combos on the planet, I am surprised that anyone would really care about a single, red dot on a phone.

:D

Current SS is better. Very neutral so works with almost any band and attire.

That red dot isn’t the best design choice they’ve ever made.

Watch dots... yeah, I’d probably use one.

The black dot looks so much classier, matches the screen and back

I wish you could buy stainless steel non LTE watch. I have no need for the LTE feature. I think I'll look for a used S2.

Just a quick creation I made on how to incorporate red into a crown well versus not so well...

I use these Watch Dots https://shop.watchdots.com/collections/frontpage/products/watchdots-black

Very durable but maybe a tiny bit smaller than the original dot. So you have to place it very carefully on top of the red dot. Maybe a hair line of red if any stays visible. The tiniest misalignment could lead to uneven red remains. TIP: Moisten the crown a little with a dish soap water mix or windex water mix before applying the dot. You then can still move it around a little but you have to wait up to a day for it to dry so it holds tight.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I actually feel better knowing about the dots, and I'm also thinking that LTE may not be something I need this year anyway. We'll see.

I have a series 0 ss. All this talk about the hideous red dot made me look at my watch again (and note I wear this *every* day). Wow it has a black dot. I doubt I have noticed it since the day it first arrived. I may not be crazy about the red dot but my guess is, based on my past experience, I'll never notice it ;-)

I've been wondering if I was alone. I could have sworn mine was all stainless. But noooo, I have a black dot. What's funny was that I was about to throw in with the red dot hate. Guess I'm setting that alarm.

I'm with you there! Zero hour minus 4 hours and counting :)

Red dot is awful, but hey, they had to do something to distinguish it from the Series 2

I think you're completely correct here. I think Apple did this not just to be more stylish or adding a cosmetic feature. But they did this to separate it away from the first generation Watch and Series 2. It also make it much easier to identify which model someone has as well.

It is fine. Would I have added a red circle had it not already been there? Probably not.
Am I going to cover it? No

I wouldn't buy the watch if I didn't like it that much.

What I don't like. Some bands only coming in 38mm varieties, that is more of a frustration to me.

I think that actually proves what a bad idea the red dot is. I also didn’t realise my crown had a black dot and yet the first thing I noticed about the series 3 was the red dot (which inspired instant revulsion).

Black (or steel, or white) is a neutral colour, whereas red is probably the least neutral colour there is. They couldn’t have picked a worse colour.

I am a proud Series 2 owner (since October 2016), and wear the Watch every day. It encourages me to exercise, eat healthier, and monitor my heartrate. I can no longer live without one. I'm also ready to upgrade to a faster, more efficient S3, with better battery life, especially with GPS turned on, and of course LTE capability so I can stream music while I run.

There's only one problem - the photos from today's event show a hideous red circle on the otherwise glorious aluminum facade of my beloved Watch. It stands out like a BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY sign on a white wall. It looks so bad that it seems like a prank, a design that no one would ever consciously approve.

But if it's real, will it hurt sales, or am I simply overreacting?
While I don't like it in pictures, I am hoping it looks better in person.

I just don’t like red as a color. Not mine. With this they just force me to buy this color, which I personally find disturbing giving a big part of this product was about customization with bands. It limits the possible color combinations, since not everything goes well with red.

I am sure one of the protection film retailers is hard at work preparing Red dot overlays. I would have preferred a jewel. Apples signature red is awful.

True. I also think that I just don't see the dot when I'm wearing the watch. So, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be able to live with the red dot. It may, however, drive red dot haters in my vicinity crazy ;-)
