if you look closely there is a fine black line behind the speaker grills. I couldn't see that anymore. after the treatment it was visible again. it held up. day two with perfect performance and even better ANC. Still a pain in the a**. How often will I have to repeat that?

Every other day. Until the hardware redesign. ;)

After noticing reduced noise cancellation weeks ago, I figured it was the firmware update. Found this thread and tried the sucking method. Seemed to fix the noise cancellation, but decided to chat with support anyway. They suggested a reset/repair and could not get a successful fit test. Made an appointment at the Genius Bar and they ordered a replacement set for me. They didn’t look at the AirPods before ordering, so it seems they are well aware of the problem. Will be curious to see if the replacements have a different hardware number (doubtful), but guessing they will come with the older firmware.

My understanding is APP in the supply line are being used for replacements. Other than hit and miss ones showing up at other retailers there is no new stock for retail. For the past two weeks or so there clearly is a 30 day continuous window when ordering. Order Jan 6, delivery Feb 6 etc... In my experience this indicates a production stop. Wether it is for QC (most likely) or something more sinister is unknown. Apple clearly needs to slow down and get things correct with new products. Way to much focus on Services vs Hardware/Software R&D/QC.

Istocknow reports some stocks occasionally reaching the retail stores but only a one or two at a time in each store which may confirm your theory that current production is being used for replacements. If there is a hardware tweak on the way, it’s not something that Apple would publicise so perhaps those receiving late Jan/early Feb AirPods will get an improved model

If they make some hardware tweak should we espect a change in the hardware version? reading some post on the official Apple community about the effectiveness of the ANC make me rise some doubts about my unit.

In 2 days I’ll be in the biggest Apple store of my country: I’ll take some test with the demo unit and if needed I purchase a new unit if they have in stock.

Often happens that the online availability are not the same you find in the stores.

Current hardware model version, I believe is 1.0.0. So if you test with a demo unit, you can check the model number. Will be interesting to see if anyone that receives new AirPods from late January onwards can check the model number to see if its changed. With a hardware change even internally, Apple would revise the model number. Apple made a minor tweak to their white charging mat for the apple watch last year. Externally there was no difference, but the model number did change

I’ll check for sure.

I’m wondering what would happen in case of hardware tweaking for the owners. This would be a big issue.

Something is moving, rtings.com will make a deep test about the ANC and the suspected variation of strength that came with the updates.

Yeah IStockNow is reporting a handful of Pro's in the UK and US retail stores. There was one at the Bath store at lunchtime and thats already gone. As I said in a previous post, Apple stores seem to be receiving single units rather than batches so supplies are obviously very short.

I don’t think Apple is going to make a hardware tweak. It’s a design flaw. ‘The clogged vents problem’ can only be solved with a complete redesign of the pod itself. That would involve a massive replacement program for the millions APP’s already sold. Not gonna happen!

Although, since cleaning the grills seems to fix the issue for a lot of people I'd imagine it's not an issue with the vents not opening and closing properly. That could've been the issue, but since cleaning seems to be helping for me and many others I doubt that's the cause.

The mechanical valve (assuming its present based on patent docs) has to equalize pressure from your inner ear to the outside. That means air needs a clear path through the valve system (which I'm guessing is located underneath the main speaker driver), and then out of the AirPod housing (probably through the grills on the outside). The actual valves wouldn't be underneath the grills on the outside, by they are still involved in the airflow.

After my problem, I was near an Apple Store over the holidays and made an appointment with a Genius. It did not go well. I tried their dirty demo unit without success. The Genius brought the pair over that clearly had been used a lot. The grills were dirty and the spare tips were from a dirty catch-all drawer. He didn’t seem to know how to remove the Medium tips nor did he know the tips were marked S, M, and L!

Needless to say, I was less than impressed.

And the suck fix doesn’t help me.

So interesting note. My ANC started failing a few days ago. Lots of white noise in transparency mode. Had both pods replaced under warranty. Passed the "fit test" with old tips.

My Airpod Pros are working great. Been using them since mid November. Sometimes I don't get a good seal test but I just need to push them in harder. Regardless if they pass or fail. It sounds good! Doesn't block the sound completely as I can here some outside noise depending what and how loud.

Great over all but could be better to block out outside noise.

I am also facing the same issue of ear tiptest some times it’s suddenly got disconnected then I want to put back again & then I want to set but in the beginning it was really very awesome
Now also the quality is awesome but I am really very upset at the time of eartip set
In my 10 years apple product I never ever faced the problem
In my AirPods first generation there was some issue the service centre had replaced the product
AirPods generation 2 with wireless charging I didn’t face any trouble
But pro is really good I don’t know what happened

As expected my third set of the Pro's developed the issue as I was on vacation over the holiday break (immediately noticeable with the anemic bass response and volume even seems lower) and at first cleaning the vents seemed to work but now I can't get anything to work for a prolonged period. Neither sucking on the vents or wiping them with a q-tip with 99% isopropyl alcohol changes anything. Cleaning them with alcohol and then sucking on them makes them pass initially and the sound to improve but after using them for just even a little while they revert back. That is not acceptable. The ANC still seems ok for the most part. I can tell the tip test will fail as soon as the first note of the Tycho song hits when you run the fit test. When they were brand new it had a bunch of kick and oomph to it. When it fails it's all treble.

Ready to give up but I don't have any options except to keep taking them back to Apple to get a new pair since I can't get a refund anymore. I'm not willing to continually clean the vents with alcohol and suck on them like a moron to just get them to work like new.

The Pro's are so so good when brand new. The sound, ANC, fit, case, etc. are all great. Wish they would just stay that way!!

Yep those are my thoughts and experiences too and after 5 failed sets, i am undecided about whether to try again. I did email Tim but never got a response.....not that I was expecting one.
As I have reported in previous posts, Apple engineers and a senior AppleCare support Specialist were calling me regularly About these issues but even they have gone quiet despite me sending ongoing reports of user experiences and references on these threads to clogged vents.
I guess that unless Apple are receiving hundreds of thousands of returns because of noise cancelling issues then they’re not going to do much about a few isolated reported cases

Joe what's your situation now? Di your fifth unit failed again the test or is it an ANC issue?

My 5th unit suffered from both and in addition the right pod started making a high pitched squeal. Apple have issued a refund and I am contemplating about whether to try again

After five sets I doubt you will every be satisfied. I would give up and save myself the time and aggravation.

Al I want is a unit that doesn’t degrade over the first few days. I have had countless iPhone, iPads, Watches, MacBooks, Apple TVs and Homepods....never had issues like this before.
But yeah, I may go back to AirPods Gen 2. My Gen 1‘s were perfect for two years and so were my Gen 2’s

Here’s a new one:

I thought I’d give the medium tips another try this morning, so I took them out of the box and applied them. Had a bit of trouble securing one of them back into the packaging though.

Listened, but the right ear was almost inaudible. Turns out that a thin, perfectly shaped layer of the packaging to which the tips secure had come off and was stuck in the tip, covering the grill. Got it off with Blu-Tack, but a warning for anyone who has switched them over a few times!

This exact same thing happened to me too!!!!

High pitched squeal!!! Mine too. I returned mine, my return window was coming to an end, exchanged them for a pair of Powerbeats pro, but I miss ANC and the case is (for obvious reasons) way too big.

Mine used to say "good seal" in the Ear Fit Test but now it does no matter which ear tips I use. I don't notice much sound quality degrade but it seems to be a bug with the test results or the Airpods Pro themselves. Anyone else?
