SG in stock with a local supplier who is even selling them at a 3% discount, and I could have them tomorrow, but no returns on headsets for hygiene reasons. I'm torn - I think I'd keep them, but what if they aren't comfortable for long enough..?

They also say they will have pink and green available from 29th Jan, which is way sooner than Apple, also with a 3% discount. No mention of silver or blue.
Don't buy without the ability to return... what if you get a faulty pair?

They'd have to sort it out if they were faulty - NZ consumer law is pretty robust in that regard, not that I think they'd shirk even without that.

It's just related to "change of mind". I genuinely think it is a hygiene thing with headphones that single them out, possibly due to COVID, but possibly it was the case before. I would expect it with in-ears, but not necessarily with over ears. I guess the flip side is that if I did buy them I know I'd not be getting a set that someone else had worn and then returned.

Anyway on balance I think I'll wait. If they aren't comfortable then I simply won't be able to use them no matter how much I may want to keep them / how awesome they may sound, and unfortunately the only way to know if they are comfortable is to try them as everybody is different.

Hopefully Apple will bring the date forward significantly and soon. Ordering now would get me a date of 22-26 Feb for SG, and I have a current ETA of 16-22 Feb having ordered on 11 Dec. Surely I should get them sooner than just before someone ordering now having been in the queue, otherwise what they are saying is that the next shipment isn't expected until mid-Feb, and it will be enough to fulfil all back orders and new orders placed today.

I guess when I first checked and could have had a pair delivered from Apple on release day I should have jumped rather than gone with "whoa, NZ$999, I might wait to see some reviews".

Ordered at Best Buy last week. It was back ordered...shipped on Friday, will be here on the 19th...sky blue...

ended up cancelling my Apple store order...don’t need the engraving that bad...went to the Apple store last week and they had the space gray in stock...grabbed it to try it out...returning it once the blue ones show up...

Exactly my dilemma. Could’ve gotten one weeks ago (or even right now for that matter), but I’m paranoid I’ll get that faulty pair. Ugh... stop sending them only to retailers, Apple 😂
faulty pairs are 100% covered under warranty... returning headphones? c'mon guys that's gross

Except Apple lets you return if they don't work for you.
Yeah but then they'll run them through a disassembly and cleaning, then offer them as a refurb replacement to someone who got a faulty unit. I know they're a corporation but I still feel a little bad about making them lose their margins on that one unit that got flip flopped.

I think anyone who's buying these knows exactly what they are, and the only reason people are actually returning is buyer's remorse.

Some people justify with the "condensationgate therefore I returned," or some other reason, but I do think they're rationalizing their buyer's remorse under some other reason. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nope. For me it's purely that I have bought headphones unseen before and they were too uncomfortable to wear for long.

When I get my APM I'll keep them, unless they get uncomfortable in which case they're no use to me. Reviews have convinced me the sound, build quality and features are worth having. I'm not (quite) willing to gamble the cost that they will be comfortable.

I agree that returning used headphones is gross. The difference is that retailers here have a zero-tolerance policy. The minute you cut the packaging wrap it’s considered open. Never mind you actually trying it on. I couldn’t be bothered to go through the warranty process if I just so happen to be that unlucky.

ok fine I guess comfort is a fair reason 😜
And almost nobody has a friend that owns a pair that someone could try on
And all the apple stores near me are closed -- not that I'd want to try on the in-store pairs.

I'm (wishful thinking) betting that they'll fit me like a glove. From the reviews I've seen, people are mostly satisfied with the comfort, though some people find they clamp too hard. My head size is probably not in the top decile so that's my very scientific rationale for why they'll probably fit me 🙂

what the heck. I ordered on 12th January Sky Blue and it says March 10-24. Apple should give preference to customers who order directly from them. this sucks!

Fingers crossed for you then. Clamping is what I’m worried about. I bought a pair of Blue MoFi headphones around 6 years ago that reviews said were good and were comfortable. They cost around half what APMs do, and they sounded better than anything I’d had before, but after an hour or so the pressure on the area in front of my ear just above the jaw bone would get uncomfortable. I still have them - the box on a shelf in my office.

I ordered direct from Apple using the app at 19:25 yesterday evening, the predicted delivery date was the 16th to 23rd February.

When I checked the order online, it said 23rd February.

At 22:39 last night I got a dispatch email.

At 09:34 this morning they've been delivered.

I wouldn't buy Apple products from anyone other than Apple, the two week return policy is too important to me.

I think you’ve got a real reason to be optimistic. New orders are 4-5 weeks and you’ve already been in for a month.

My cousin just told me she ordered a pink one last week. It’s now showing delivery on Feb 16-23. I’m gonna be so p*ssed if she gets hers first... 😂

Yes, space grey.

Before we went into full lockdown a few weeks ago, I'd been checking the availability most days and two or three of the local stores had space grey and silver available for collection pretty much all the time. Now the stores have closed, I wonder if they've just consolidated all the stock and are using that to fulfil online orders.

Received my order from Target. Took 3 days to get to me from order.

APMs are generally great. Soundstage is a little closed in, but the sub-bass is ****ing juicy and clear. Anyone complaining about lack of bass in these cans is confused. They do a fantastic job at representing all frequencies clearly, with little to no muddling, and have visceral sub bass response. Never had headphones vibrate the way that these can at max volume with some bassy electronica. ANC is the best I've ever heard, but had some weird faults: random loud sounds were amplified through the headphones, as if the computer didn't know what to do with them.

That said, immediately had severe condensation issues. I wasn't too concerned, seeing that any closed back will have condensation issues, but I've never been able to see it this clearly before. I reached out to apple and ultimately they said this:
Screenshot 2021-01-19 183613.jpg

So, their official stance is that the condensation isn't worrisome, and I'd expect them to cover any resultant damages should some occur.

Ultimately, I returned the headphones last week though. The clamping force during long sessions messed up my ear. Very uncomfortable (sessions >3hrs). Was a bummer. They're really "fun" cans. Loved exploring my music library with them. Curious what they sound like wired and lossless.

If I could find them again used/renewed/refreshed @ ~$400, I might pick up another pair. However, as it stands, $600 is too much for an uncomfortable set of cans that I have to take breaks from during long sessions. Went back to my QC35ii's. Definitely not as fun, but endlessly comfortable. And, if I want to listen to music for quality, I'll throw on my Hifimans. Better sound stage, great frequency clarity, but APMs still have the edge with the fun sub-bass response at high volume.

Thanks for that - clamping force is my biggest concern and why I am waiting to get them from Apple rather than in-stock from a supplier who doesn't accept change of mind returns on headphones.

What do they do with all the returned APMs? Surely they can't sell them as new again? Seems like it'd be a good way to score some at $100 off.

That's the hope. I've seen that a few people have already scored renewed off of Amazon for ~ $400, but I haven't seen any yet
