AirPods Max Pre-Order / Order / Delivery Thread

Woke up to some great news. After 13.5 weeks of processing... I can finally say my order is preparing for shipment! 😁😆

Mine is schedule to deliver 24-30 in Toronto.

I joined the ranks of the AirPods Max gang, put in an order on 3/4. The initial reviews, for me anyway, just give me more incentive to take the plunge and get these. I've got a delivery window of 3/19-3/26 and secretly held out hope that Apple would exceed their delivery expectations as they so often do but after having read through the entire thread it became pretty clear that was unlikely lol. No movement on my order at all but very excited nonetheless and it shouldn't be too much longer now!

I sincerely hope yours delivers before next Wednesday. We need to get these good vibes rolling! Realistically however, it’s feels highly unlikely it will. I didn’t even get charged until this morning. Apple is dead-set on using all of their time to fulfill these orders.

As of right now, it’s still PTS. I guess this is just the next stage of limbo. I’m hoping for delivery by Friday. Though delivery by the 24th is probably most accurate. 😅😂

It sounds unlikely on its face, but this is a company known for its attention to detail...and let's be honest, they have resources almost unparalleled by even other successful company standards. So I wouldn't put it past them 😂

I continue to have zero movement on my order and expect it to stay that way until I get inside of my delivery window of 3/19-3/26 based on the most common experiences. But it's given me more time to wait and see the consumer feedback and I'm getting more confident that for my purposes these things are going to be worth the wait.

I was in the exact same situation as you last week. The APMs didn't hit FedEx until Friday. Since they shipped standard overnight, they didn't arrive until Monday.

Hopefully, you will have better luck.

I ordered mine on Dec. 11 2020 at an Authorised Apple Reseller in Switzerland since it was a better deal. However, still nothing. Fingers crossed that I will get them before Apple releases the second gen of them 😉 Anyone with the same experience here?

It sounds unlikely on its face, but this is a company known for its attention to detail...and let's be honest, they have resources almost unparalleled by even other successful company standards. So I wouldn't put it past them 😂

I'm reassured seeing that so many (here especially) have given it their approval. Not gonna lie though, spending close to 900 CAD is still a TOUGH pill to swallow. Damn you, Apple, for using such an unfriendly Canada forex conversion premium.

Thanks, but it seems like I'll be empty handed through the weekend. My tracking updated and it's saying TUESDAY 23rd. Worst part? The shipping origin is literally 30 mins or so away by car & truck. lol what?

I don't know how reliable said reseller is... but that doesn't sound right at all. What colour did you order? I'd check in with them to re-confirm they've actually placed your order.

Yeah, I also think that‘s too long… The reseller have been reliable in the past. They say Apple haven‘t send them any units. They assume to get some someday in May. Just ridiculous 😂 I ordered it in space grey which should not be that difficult to get.

Finally got my APM today!! The APM arrived around Noon (United States EST time). I got way too excited and tried them on with my cochlear implants. Holy crap! The headphones are amazing! The sound quality of the headphones with my implants on are fantastic. I was a little bit worried whether or not it would sound different to me compared to wearing my special headphones that plugs into my cochlear implants, but amazingly enough — they sound exactly the same! On the funny side, I actually had to turn the headphones down halfway. I usually have the volume on max because with my special headphones, I can't hear the music very well halfway and normally have it all the way up which is like the normal sound level for most people. But with the headphones on, it's the total opposite.

On my cochlear implant, I have a big battery and a small battery. The headphones isn't covering the big battery on my ear, but you can't really see it since it's behind my ear, but i can feel it sticking out of the ear cushion a little bit. The smaller battery works better if I were to wear the headphones. I normally don't wear the smaller cochlear implant battery because I felt that the smaller battery wouldn't get me through the day since my cochlear implant processor sucks the life out of the battery pretty quickly. I only have one small battery so I may consider purchasing a second small battery just for the headphones. But the ear cups itself is covering the entire ear with my implant on, which I'm relieved about!

The headphones are extremely comfortable. Even with my implants on. The ear cups are a little bit tight, but I'm used to that because as a kid I used to have to go to audiologist appointments a lot and get my hearing tested and their headphones were really tight on my head. So the APM 'tightness' didn't really feel a big difference to me when I wore the audiologist's headphones for hearing testing. Man I'm so excited about these headphones. The transparency mode messed me up. I wasn't sure if I was listening through my implants or through the headphones. The noise cancellation is amazing though! I wish I had noise cancellation with my special cord, but wow these headphones is going to make a major change for me by not having to take my implants off, plug them in and then get the dongle and plug the cord in, etc and make sure they're working.

The one thing I did notice was that when I added the APM on all of my devices (Macbook Pro, Apple Watch S6, and iPhone 12 Pro) the audio did begin stuttering and cutting in and out. I wasn't sure if the APM was having issues with bleutooth connectivity since more devices are being added on or not. If I had one or two devices connected to the APM, it works fine without stuttering music/audio. But more than at least 3 devices or so made the APM sutter. Then the APM couldn't connect to my iPhone after disconnecting it from my watch and I did a quick reset on my APM and connected it to my phone. So I think I'm just going to keep the APM on devices that I use the most for now, which is my Macbook Pro and my iPhone 12 pro. I did hear that there's a new firmware update for the APM, so I'll probably update the APM this afternoon while I'm working on things for work.

I literally ripped the box open and got the APM connected and played with the APM for about an hour and it has far exceeded my expectations and literally just made my mouth dropped as to how much amazing technology I missed out on with headphones due to my hearing loss and cochlear implants. I was just utterly speechless. When I spoke to Apple last week about the arrival of the APM, I told them that these will be my first pair of headphones I owned ever and Apple got really excited for me and they said that this was one of the reasons why they made the APM, was so that it can accomodate everybody and have people be able to enjoy airpods in general. The APM is ridiculously expensive BUT as a deaf person with cochlear implants, These headphones are pretty cheap to me considering that cochlear implants are about $7,000 PER EAR (that's with insurance too). So, These APM headphones are definitely worth the purchase for me!

That's wonderful! I'm happy for you. It sounds like the APM are just perfect for your rather unique use case. Congrats!

Picked up my order today, quite impressed so far with these. Been using them for a few hours. Watched some marvel movies on Disney+ to see how the spacial audio sounds, listened to music, etc. I think I sort of understand the case a bit now, sure I get the meme jokes as well but the case isn’t as chintzy as I thought it would be. It’s small and compact, and I wouldnt worry about using it for traveling as I’d likely keep these in a carry on anyways to get quick access to them, not buried in a checked bag or anything. For that I’d want a more protective case. Automatic switching works perfectly for me, listen to music on the iPad, watch a youtube video on iPhone, back to music on iPad they pick up everything I’m trying to do seamlessly (for iOS devices anyways). And somehow I’m already on the 3C39 update so that happened pretty quickly for me with no action on my part. Next test will be being able to use them with my work laptop for teams meetings using the 3.5mm cable as bluetooth is disabled on my work computer. Yes, they are really expensive, but they are good enough so far that I’m not sitting here worrying about how much they cost..

However, since then my Disney+ app--both on my iPad Pro (which I use with my APM) and on my Apple TV 4K (which I use with an OG HomePod pair set as default audio) are saying that best audio available is Dolby 5.1 And the minimal listening I've done since I noticed this seems to confirm that the surround sound is far less impressive now. WTF? Why???? Are other people experiencing the same thing?

You’re right. It is very confusing and appears to be changing as they go. I had heard the mandalorian was supposed to be in atmos, but it doesn’t show up under details. However, the rise of skywalker does show it...

Did some searching and found the following statement that many on some av forums say they got from Disney.

"in light of the concerns expressed by government officials regarding the use of broadband services in this challenging time, we have instituted measures to lower bandwidth utilization, and in some circumstances streaming content in HD and UHD formats will be limited or unavailable. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Not sure if that is still the case, the posters say this also applies to audio. I haven’t contacted Disney myself, just providing the info I found.

I wear glasses all the time. I have no discomfort wearing my APM. (I can barely tell they are on my head.) It may depend on the design of your glasses. Also the foam in the ear cups will adjust as you wear them. Also see this thread about how to stretch out your APM if the clamping is too tight.

Well, if that’s the case, then they have about 18 months to fix it and go back to the way it was or I’m gone. I signed up for 3 years at the very start of the service at an outstanding price. If I’m going to be paying full freight—and at their increased rates, no less—I expect to get full quality as well. If not, then I’ll just spend the money on purchasing the content on iTunes or on Blu-Ray with digital copy. ’Tis a shame, really. They do have a great selection but not if it is streamed at sub-par quality.

As for the person who questioned the bandwidth use, I’m inclined to agree. Besides which I’ve downloaded all the episodes of The Mandalorian. Why should my watching them off my iPad cause bandwidth issues???
