Question: Used them in the gym but put them in my ear before i left the house. started my podcast in the gym and it played through the phone speaker? Do they switch off somehow when not being used?

They will go into standby after a period of inactivity. But they should normally re-connect automatically again when you start playing audio. I'm reasonably sure mine always have, I'll have to check again when my replacements arrive today.

Did they show up in the list of playback devices, if you tapped the menu of course?

Only thing i checked was if they were connected via Bluetooth and they were NOT.

Anyone using these on a treadmill consistently?

How has it been in drowning out that noise?
Max volume normally needed?

I listen to a lot of podcasts and will be purchasing a treadmill this weekend most likely and trying to see if I need to use over the ear headphones or if the pods will work for what I need to hear clearly.

I find be they are fine on the treadmills at my gym. That said, they aren't ideal on crowded days or when staff has turned up the house audio playing pop music. If I could have my Bose QC-20i's in AirPod format, that would be amazing.

This would be in my garage alone and only the motor of the treadmill making noise I am assuming they should be fine.

Maybe my treadmill is loud (is certainly is old) but I find it doesn't drown out the motor/belt noise fully but does it well enough (volume set at 70%).

What I do find annoying is that I have to almost scream for Siri to properly hear me while running. So I've been setting everything up before my run so that I don't have to play around with Siri during it. A minor annoyance.

Good points as I dont want to worry about any of that once I get going even though I mostly walk and sprints every now and again.

I used mine for the first time in the gym this morning while on the treadmill. Vocals were clear enough around the 60%/70% mark and my gym was moderately busy at the time. IMO, they're not ideal for treadmill use given how loose they feel in the ear and how high you need to have the volume to be able to clearly hear everything.

Day 3 of the AirPods. Yesterday, they were in my ears most of the day while I worked at my desk or ran errands. I missed the bubble that my QC35s put me in, but I thought the AirPods excelled in other areas. Being able to simply keep them in my pockets meant I was listening to music more than usual as I went about my day. They're also so unobtrusive and comfortable to use for extended periods of time.

They didn't fare too well in the gym today though. I had to have the volume almost uncomfortably high to be able to pick up some of the subtle details in the music I was listening too. Also, while they didn't fall out, the looseness in the ear that I enjoyed during casual use the day before was annoying in the gym where you are running or jumping around.

Other slightly annoying things:
  • Tap to activate siri or play/pause can be a bit hit or miss.
  • When running, having to still put out my phone to skip tracks or to adjust volume is cumbersome (I'm not quite comfortable asking Siri to do so, and besides the double-tap feature is best used for play/pause).
  • The case really scratches easily. Annoyingly easy.
As it stands, I'm on the fence with the AirPods. I genuinely like them more than I thought I would, but for general use my other headphones suit my needs better. What I really need is a pair of wireless buds for the gym. In that regard, they're mediocre at best :/

Seems like a very specific use case scenario though as they feel very firm in my ears even when running outside and normally dont exceed 60-70% volume. Assumed it would be higher in a gym with their music and loud noises.

Sorry to hear they dont seem to be working well in that scenario.

I had Jaybirds but man these are so much better without that wire and feel as though nothing at all is in my ear with the lightness and freedom of the Pods.

Good feedback though.

Got my Airpods replaced at the apple store tonight, no more dropped calls or stutters with apple music/spotify!

:)

You should definitely get an Apple Watch :)

Set the watch to keep the last used app (ie Now Playing or Music) on the screen while playing music, and then a lift of the wrist is all you need for skipping tracks and controlling volume.

Accidentally discovered that by double-tapping behind the base of your ear lobe (so by tapping in an almost upward/forward direction) Siri is activated.

So, without actually making contact with the Airpod.

It appears the movement of the Aipod caused by this double-tap is all that's needed to conjure Siri.

I have "random" stutters with music on my iphone & Siri activation is hit or miss. Did Apple do any diagnostic check on your airpods to get them replaced?

Has anyone upgraded to 10.3, and noticed that the SOUND coming out of the BT headphones from the airpod is MUCH louder than it used to be? I used to have to increase volume to nearly the highest if not the highest, and today making calls I had them down at 25% max, or else it was too loud.

Just received mine yesterday. Unlike the EarPods, these stay in my ears. Unfortunately the Siri functions fail to work. I was able to enable Siri a couple times after opening them, however can't for the life of me get Siri working anymore.

Its quick and hard double tap on either bud

Hi Guys
I am on my third pair of AirPods right now. The first one had the battery issue but important for this topic are the second and the third one. Because they have the exact same issues. Please note automatic ear detection is always on.
  • The sound output won't change automatically to AirPods when I put them in. With my first Pair I always heard the "connection sound" and sound was directed to the AirPods with the headphone icon in the status bar.
  • Music won't pause when I put one AirPod out. Sometimes when I put one out the sound output just changes back to iPhone

Now I really cannot believe that those pairs both have the same problem. Is there maybe something different wrong? I can't figure it out.

I tried resetting, re-pairing, turning on-off the automatic ear detection. Nothing helped.

Would be great to hear your thoughts and advices.
Thank you!

I basically love everything about these, Ive had them since late December, but sometimes one of them wont seem to charge. It tends to be the right, but the left did it as well. Like right now the left is 100%, while the right is 51%. Am I not inserting them enough? Common issue? Definitely would like some replacements if this is going to be a common occurrence going forward, but I'd also like to give them time to get more bugs out before getting a warranty replacement

I haven't experienced this problem and the magnets pull my AirPods firmly against the charging contacts, so unless your AirPods have some kind of foreign body on them (covers? wax particles?) stopping them sitting properly in the case it sounds like a hardware or firmware problem.

No problem on the treadmill. I rarely even hear the music pumped out in the gym when my Airpods are in. The only time they don't overcome the outside noise is after my workout when I go on the hydrobed.

yeah the metal is spotless, dont see anything inside the case either.

Anyone having an issue with battery level differences between the right and the left?

My right AirPod is losing charge about 15% faster than my left; both are always used as a pair.

Normal, or any ideas for fix?
