Thanks. I don't have time to drive around randomly checking stores, so that's good info.
Have a little hope - Apple's shipping estimates are usually conservative. If you look through the last few pages there are accounts of shipments going out earlier than expected. It looks to me like they are now shipping the early Jan estimate orders taken around the 11AM-Noon Eastern timeframe on launch day. My order was around 12:30 Eastern so I'm starting to have hope it will ship before New Years.
I would mention though that there are a number of threads here on other suppliers shipping more quickly. (e.g. Best Buy, Verizon, ATT, Sprint). You might want to go ahead and put in an order with one or more of them. I already got mine from Best Buy last week - my pending order is either going to be a gift or headed for Ebay (assuming the premium pricing sustains long enough).
I have $55 in gift cards to use at Apple so I've been refreshing istocknow a lot today hoping one of the 4 Apple Stores in my area get stock so I can do a store pickup.
I think this is the best strategy. I have orders with Apple and Best Buy currently. Seems like BB is moving faster then Apple. Whoever delivers first gets my business.
I know everyone's trying to get their hands on one. In case it's helpful, I just released https://www.machookup.com which alerts you as soon as it finds store pickup availability near your zip code. Only works for Apple stores at the moment.
12/27 update: the AirPods have arrived (after much fighting with UPS, a "missed" delivery, running around town, and an eventual agreement to come back to my house)! All I can say is that the wait was worth it! These things are amazing, and when those of whom are waiting for them on this thread do receive them, you'll forget all about the wait. These really are a revolution. They feel great, work fantastically, very user friendly (they literally "just work"), battery life is great, and really are a dream come true!
Mine were suppose to be here today but will now be here tomorrow! Can't wait.

Apple is sucks. I called them about my order, asked them why somebody ordered later than me, they even already got theirs, the rep said "I don't know." Then I asked if I can cancel it, she said because I ordered it on my iPhone with Apple Pay, so this order cannot be added in my account, and it will be considered as a guest order, which means I can't modify and cancel it......

My AirPods has shipped this morning on Dec 26 I ordered my on Dec 13. I was expect it on Jan 12 now I will get it on Dec 29
