Today, after using my APP, my iPhone showed they were at 65%. After putting them in the case it showed them at 43%
Did you take note of each AirPod’s battery level after putting them in the case? Were they both on 43% or was one on 65% & the other on ~20%? This is the glitch I used to notice, with the incorrect “43%” being the average of the two AirPods after one of them suddenly drops.

i totally agree with you, the average drop starts from “43%” and before I put the AirPods in the case the Average battery was about “63%”, so I’m assuming it’s a glitch for sure.

I have experienced this same issue. On the latest firmware and I just purchased my Airpods Pro in the last 3 weeks. Today it showed the battery at 56%, put them in the case, suddenly they show at 8%. 2 minutes later I pull one out, it suddenly shows at 78% while the other shows 12%.

I ended up calling Apple support and they are shipping a full replacement. I'll be honest, I'm not super confident the replacement will fix the issue. Expecting it will be the same and that it's a firmware or software issue, but it's creating a real headache for me as I use them for up to 8 hours a day for work. Knowing the true battery percentage is incredibly important to me.

Great, It’d be really helpful for the community if you can update the status once your replacement AirPods arrive. If the problem persists I wouldn’t call up Apple, if the problem is resolved then even I’ll call up apple and get a replacement.

Please do update once you get your replacement AirPods. :)

I found the true percentage is the higher of the two AirPods.

I took mine into an Apple store with screen recordings of the sudden battery loss (& gain), but it was early on before it became a widespread issue, so they recommended I wait for a firmware update to address the issue.

It’s been fine for me of late & when it does happen, I know to just refer to the higher percentage.

I had them swap out both the AirPods along with the case and it still happens. So I’d say ordering a replacement for this issue is moot. I tried to drain both the case (only goes till 1%) and the Pods completely and not much of a help there either. But so far it’s just a false reading in my experience.

Has this issue been going on since launch or is it only a problem with later firmware versions?

As stated before, completely drain both AirPods and the case, make sure you're running the latest Firmware, charge them up. The problem should be gone, if not, contact Apple or a certified Apple reseller in your country, and they will replace your pair of AirPods free of charge.

Update : So I’ve tried what Mimiron has suggested and turned out the problem still persists.

I end up using AirPods PrO until the battery is around 55% and then pop into the case, around 5 minutes later I check the battery percentage it’s around 31%, this is weird. I’m still confused if it’s Firmware issue or Hardware issue.

If there’s anyone who has found the perfect solution to this or has applied for a replacement and the replacement piece has fixed this issue please let us know.

Thank You.

There is no real solution.

Read my posts above. It’s a software glitch. Take out one of the AirPods from the case & refer to the higher AirPod percentage for the accurate level.

Just following up on my earlier post. Apple has sent a replacement set of Airpods Pro. Issue still present. So, yep....that sucks.

I’m glad it’s not happening only to me. The other day I used my pros for 2 and a half hours. As I was using them the battery % was decreasing as expected (around 20% per hour). When I checked them after putting them on the case, I noticed they were at 20ish%. Was getting kinda worried about this and was going to to take them in for service. At first I thought it was because I barely used them in the past 3 months because of the pandemic (usually used them during my train commute, but been working from home since mid March), and the battery was degrading because they were in the case all the time.
Hopefully a future firmware upgrade will take care of this. If the battery is kicking the bucket prematurely, that’s what the 2 year warranty is for.

This happens to everyone who owns an AirPods Pro but it’s just that they don’t notice.

hope Apple releases an updated firmware soon.

Hello!

Now, this is not a 'fix' per se, but a consistently effective work around:

Keep the lid of the APP case open while charging the pods! Charging proceeds in good order, without the appearance of sudden % drop. This works with case wired or not.

I use a small microfiber cleaning cloth to keep the snappy lid propped open.

Apple is sending a replacement case to me; I'm eager to try it out. Will post experience here.

(I did try resetting the APPs, as well as Mimiron's full drain suggestion, to no effect.)

Best,
KM

Hello All,

So, the replacement APP case arrived.

It performs exactly as my original case. Same sudden drop of ~40% charge (shown) after pods have been encased 30 or so seconds.

Which is both disappointing (i.e., not the quick Solution I'd hoped for),

and a bit of a relief in that the Airpods read precisely the same % charge in each case.

I'll continue to charge with the lid propped open so as to know the real charge.

I do look forward to the fix for this...
Thanks in advance, Apple!

Best,
KM

As has been mentioned many times in this thread & others, it’s a software glitch that won’t be fixed by changing hardware.

Yes! I phoned Apple to discuss what I understood to be a Firmware glitch (this problem began for me with 2D15) and the replacement case was all they could offer as a way to do something. I accepted, not expecting a fix.

Hello All,

I believe I've found a fix after tinkering with the 2 cases. And yes! the lid can be closed.

This is simple, and specific:

1) Place AirPods into case, keeping lid open between insertions. Hold lid open until status light goes out.

2) Slowly with control, lower the lid until the status light comes on again. Hold lid open at that point until the light goes out again.

Go ahead and close lid. Done! Charge status of AirPods will remain accurate.

If you try this, please post results. Thank you.

Best,
KM

If this is a issue that happens with every pair of airpods pro, why do apple keep sending out replacements? They HAVE to know what this is about by now? It's like no matter how many people complain they have never heard of it before.

Good day,

Latest 2D27 Firmware (iOS 13.5.1 running) does not take care of this problem. Sadly.

Does Apple know about the situation... Can't say. (Otherwise my AirPods sound great with the upgrade.)

Mine have been working correctly after doing this. Even after the firmware update!
