Tips are clean, I never use them to take/make phone calls, only use them to listen to music/movies/YouTube. My case charges them up to capacity (checking upon waking up in the morning), leaving them in the case for a few more hours, the right Pod is almost drained while the left one is still 100%. If i ignore the battery readings and use them, the one with the lower charge shuts off after totally draining within a short time. We’ll see if the new case makes a difference
It looks like the charging pins in the case for the right AirPod are to blame. New case should resolve the issue.

I wonder if overly damp charge pins on the AirPods when inserted in the case are to blame for damage to individual pods? It would be a common scenario you’d think, after exercising or washing hands etc.

& it may be a fine line on whether it’d cause a complete failure of the charge function, but I could see it happening.

You never put damp or wet AirPods back in the case which could actually short them. It’s such a small battery so some might think it’s not that big of a deal but it’s still electricity. I’m fairly positive some put the AirPods back in case straight after workout but I always wipe the grills and the stem every time I use.

Yep, i'm always wiping both the pins & the face of the AirPods which makes contact with my skin, to remove oils so they grip properly the next time I wear them.

The latter is key to prevent them from slipping out of the ear after an amount of time &/or when moving your jaw frequently.

Looking to see if anyone else has this issue or can shed any light before I try to get replacements.

AirPods Pro, brand new, noise cancellation off, used twice. Talked for approximately an hour and 15 minutes with them connected to my Mac. When the call was finished my Mac reported the battery levels as 67% left, 70% right. Seems very close to the advertise 3.5 hours talk time. I put them in the case, and INSTANTLY they start reporting the battery life as 13% left, 21% right. No chimes ever came on to announce low battery levels or anything. This would be less than 2 hours of talk time which is significantly less than advertised.

It can't possibly be right for battery level reporting to be so far off between the Mac's reading while using them, and the charging case immediately after disconnecting from a call. Bought them from an Apple Store but verified they are authentic anyway, which they are.

Anyone else experienced this before?

This is a known and well documented issue with mis-reporting battery status with Airpods Pro. Just leave them a bit longer in the case and they will report correctly. I don't know if this was fixed in some later firmware update.

Thanks. I actually just found a thread about this on MR after you mentioned that. Took me a while to get the right keywords to weed out all the people complaining about a 1% difference in battery levels during use. I'll see if I can't get this thread merged in with another

Based on the thread I found, just going to ride it out and/or play with it a bit more to make sure the issue isn't hardware related.

There’s already a sticky up top that deals with this.

Hello All,

I believe I've found a fix after tinkering with the 2 cases. And yes! the lid can be closed.

This is simple, and specific:

1) Place AirPods into case, keeping lid open between insertions. Hold lid open until status light goes out.

2) Slowly with control, lower the lid until the status light comes on again. Hold lid open at that point until the light goes out again.

Go ahead and close lid. Done! Charge status of AirPods will remain accurate.

If you try this, please post results. Thank you.

Best,
KM

Hi matthewwwww,

Each time you put the AirPods into their case, if you don't want the read charge % to drop. I've gotten used to it.

Happy New Year!

Hello everyone, I have had this issue for what I know of for at least 3 months. I have been in contact with an adviser everyday and had replacements (AirPods, case and even a whole new sealed unit) I am still dealing with this issue with a replacement and it is becoming EXTREMELY stressful as no resolution, I am running latest IOS (14.4.2) and Airpod Pro firmware 3A283, has anyone found a fix?

This is a hardware issue, from what I've been told, and there's nothing they can do about it. Whenever they replace your pair of Airpods, it will continue to happen.

I have a brand new iPhone 12 and a new set of AirPods Pro, I also have AirPods Max and 2nd Gen AirPods and this issue is not present on these AirPods, cannot see how this is a hardware issue

Fun fact, got both of my AirPods replaced because there was some crackling sound in the right AirPod and they replaced both, the issue is now GONE.

Yes, this actually fixed the bug as soon as I updated to IOS 14.5, Just so frustrating it took Apple so long to find this bug, I had this for 5 months

I made a seperate post on this, but maybe ‘optimized charging’ is causing the phantom drain, never noticed this before

I don't know but I have had it fixed since updating to IOS 14.5 and updating my AirPods Pro to 3E751 so if still having issues go to Apple as should be fixed
