No fix for me after the new firmware. First time I used them to around 60%, put them in the case for a minute opened the lid and one AirPod had the correct battery the other had 20%. This has happened to me before after a previous update. Now both AirPods are doing the same thing as before which makes me think this is a hardware issue. Its not bad enough to recall them but I will be getting mine swapped again before the warranty expires if they cant fix it with an update.

My original pair which had the issue were February this year but they’ve since been replaced by Apple so not sure about these.

Used them again to 38%. This time they were as they should be. I think there may be a fix but it can depend on the percentage. If that’s the case it will be clear after a week or so of using them.

Hope will be ok. Mine after 4 charges seems fine ;)

The problem still persists....64% when placing them in the case and in one minute 12% when I checked...

Just ignore it...

friends, hello I write to you from Chile, someone who can help me? I had the same drainage problem at first, now I update the headphones to the latest version and the problem affects the case, since it does not indicate the charge in a real way, apparently it is not charging when I save the airpods. I do not know whether to wait another software update or change them, regards.

I don’t remember how many it’s been said over and over again on the forums but it’s getting to crazy levels.
It’s a software issue and you’re AirPods are FINE. Don’t replace them for just this reason.
If the battery shows a lower percentage after placing them inside the case, it’s going to stay that way until it actually reaches that battery level. For God’s sake don’t order a replacement for trivial issues that can’t be fixed.

It’s literally the second Sticky thread.

How do i ignore it when my right Air Pod Pro shuts down due to low battery? LOL
Called Apple about it, jumped through all the “re-boot”, “restart” stuff . Nothing worked. Called back and I have a new case in-bound. Hopefully it will fix the issue

Check the runtimes. If your right AirPod actually shuts off then it could indicate a problem.
But if you take a lot of phone calls on the AirPods, try switching up the first AirPod you pickup from the case and see if your right one still shuts off first. If the left AirPod turns off first this time, then they’re fine. The Pod with the active mic drains a bit faster than the other.

And while you’re at it try checking if the pins in the case look clean.

I've notice some crazy issues since iOS 14... Right AirPod Pro constantly draining to almost nothing when it's in the case. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the auto switching. I use them with a MacBook Pro during the day, but I constantly see the right one showing up in the battery widget on my phone even though it doesn't show it as being connected. I'm guessing the auto switching requires a certain amount of communication all of the time whether you are using them or not. I disabled the auto switching function on the phone (so far it's been pretty annoying), but it still shows up in the battery widget which is bit odd. I think they still have some bugs to work out here.

It’s a software issue [...] issues that can’t be fixed.

My original pair never experienced that issue. One month or so after (and not initially) one of my buds got replaced, I started to experience it randomly. After replacing the other bud it disappeared for a while and came back (still randomly).
I am skeptical of an excessively categorical assertion in regards to the causes of that issue.

You can be skeptical as you like but I tried it myself. Even though it seems to read a lower percentage when you put in the case, if you actually start using them right away it’d stay on that battery level until it actually drains to that. No other reason but software can explain this.

Indeed it only reads a lower percentage but holds the charge normally.

But why isn’t it happening to all the earbuds combinations I’ve had, why changing one earbud did solve that problem for a while, and why did it reappear over time ?

Occam’s razor is a nice intellectual tool but beware of grossly over-simplistic explanations. You’re jumping way too fast to conclusions.

If it’s a hardware defect, it’d happen every time. If it’s a software bug it could happen every time. But since the AirPods actually hold charge regardless of the reading, it’s a software bug. There’s no third explanation with these things. It could have something to do with how the software estimates the battery levels and maybe harder to fix and much more complex. But if the AirPods don’t actually shut off then it’s a software issue.

Engineering is such an easy thing when you do it from your armchair isn’t it ?

Tips are clean, I never use them to take/make phone calls, only use them to listen to music/movies/YouTube. My case charges them up to capacity (checking upon waking up in the morning), leaving them in the case for a few more hours, the right Pod is almost drained while the left one is still 100%. If i ignore the battery readings and use them, the one with the lower charge shuts off after totally draining within a short time. We’ll see if the new case makes a difference
