Does not look like it is simply rebooting. It looks like is shut down for a period of time and then restarted! I can see there being a problem and it glitching into a reboot but to shut down for over an hour and then starting for no reason, that is worrying!

Apple owes us an explanation.

No issues on my 15 Pro running 17.0.3. Double-checked this morning when I saw a patch for TV Time say it had bug fixes for overheating in the patch notes. But no issues so far. Charging via magsafe to 100% overnight with optimization and clean energy turned off.

My 13pro appeared to do this a couple of days ago, I charge it overnight and when I picked it up in the morning it wanted the passcode, I definitely know it rebooted as I use voice over and it actually tells you that your passcode is required when iPhone restarts, so it wasn’t Face ID being awkward because it says something different then. I thought that was a bit odd, but didn’t think much of it, and now I’ve seen this thread, it really is a bit weird.

iPhone 12 iOS 17.0.3 also shut down and rebooted overnight. Had to enter password and sim pin

For the two days since the reboot on my 15 pro, optimized charging has stopped working- phone charges to 100% as soon as i put it on the charger. Had been working for a few days prior. Could be related to the reboot? Anyone else notice this behavior?

Had one iPad mini (gen 4) on 15.7.8 updated itself to .9 sometime last night - even though the auto update was turned off. Weird.

My auto update was also turned on after the reboot. This is wildly strange and Apple needs to speak. I wonder if we should all email Tim Apple?

Didn’t happen last night…
After thinking about this I do recall that I had to enter my passcode first thing in the morning a few times over the past few months, never thought of anything but will start paying more attention to this.

Sure would be nice to hear from Apple

After the update and reboot all of the location services were turned on without my permission. They have a handful of tactics for their so called privacy.

Why assume it’s some sort of conspiracy when it’s much more likely to be either (a) they pushed a rapid security response update that required a reboot or (b) due to a bug? Interestingly mine rebooted that first night, hasn’t done so since, had no gap in charging even when it did reboot. Seems most likely a bug given the variability in behaviour and who is affected.

Happened to mine Tuesday overnight- No explaination??My always on doesn't show the time anymore when I turned off wallpaper?? Many other freeze ups. Push out a fix or give us 17.1 to fix ASAP. Apple turning into Microsoft- sometimes works, sometimes not!

When iOS17 came out and i installed it my 14PM stopped battery optimisation all together for almost 2 weeks. Then it started up again and when my shut down happened i dont think that night Battery Optimisation had activated either, phone had gone straight to 100% before the shut down.

Anyways last night i plugged mine in and i can say it did not shut down or reboot and the battery graph is not showing any blank gaps in between.
Although around 11.35pm my phone while it was charging did the magsafe lock noise (when you attach something) and the screen lit up for a few seconds.
Never seen or noticed it do that before.

EDIT: Forgot to add as well that when my shut down happened the 2 nights ago and that i just remembered to check now the auto iOS updates for all 3 options were turned on, i always had them to off.

I'm fairly certain my iPhone14 Pro rebooted itself around 2:15 am the other night. My complained that a sound my phone made at that time (the startup chime I have it set to play) woke her up. It had been updated to 17.0.3 within the previous couple of days.

I'm wondering if there's a common thread to my Apple Watch 9 (running 10.0.2) spontaneously rebooting itself today. This is the first time I've seen that since I started wearing an Apple Watch back in 2016 or so. Could there be some common code in these devices' operating systems that's responsible for this unexpected behavior?

It happened to me last night that my new iPhone 15 restarted by itself. I thought it was because of the charging cable.

it's not shutting down for hours. The gap in the battery graph is explainable because the graph doesn't get updated until the user enters their passcode after a reboot. The phone will reboot immediately, but the graph will have a gap because of this.
