No reboot for be last night, just the night before. I really hope Apple speaks out about this because there’s no way it was a coincidence and I’m concerned about those who need their phones to be on and accessible for emergency/work purposes.
absolutely the whole thing was strange

Hope no one miss any emergency calls and texts? With so many phones down for hours, probably bound to have happened. So hope not many people got hurt, fired, or died because of Apple.
Calls and texts do not depend on the phone being on, or even existing. They go to a number, which is handled by the phone company. If the phone isn't available then calls go to voice mail, which again is not handled by the phone. Texts are stored by the company and you get them when your phone is back on. Otherwise features like airplane mode (or just running out of battery) would be a disaster and you would have heard about it many years ago.

Phones ringing depends on the phones being on. EMERGENCY calls depend on the phones being on NOW.

Text notifications and reception also depends on the phones being on. EMERGENCY texts depend on the phones being on NOW.

Perhaps you missed the fact that I was referring to emergency, or the fact that you think a literal emergency can wait for many hours.

Your reply makes sense only referring to non-emergency situations. Yes, even if your phone has been off for a month, you will still get your text when you turn it back on. That has nothing to do with my initial statement.

My initial statement stands. Phones turning off for hours by themselves can be a real and dangerous problem.

Receiving an emergency call or text three hours after it was sent is not ideal.

Did the majority of people deal with this 2 nights in a row? seems a little quiet today
I did not have to plug mine in to charge it last night as strangely after the night's before reboot by the end of the day my iPhone was down to 75% battery remaining so i skipped a charge.
Let's see what happens tonight though......

EDIT: Also no Clean Energy enabled as here in Australia we don't even have that option appearing in the Battery section.

My iPhone 14 Pro Max did something odd in that it sort of crashed during the night. When I went to use it first thing this morning there were only the Apple apps showing as icons on it. A reboot brought back the user installed ones though.

For the record I’m in the UK

Had this happen - my phone was not charging though. I have Sleep mode on at 11pm as usual, then I fall asleep by midnight.

Weird thing is when I went to get my phone at lunch time it was already powered back on waiting - but the battery graph shows it was off the entire time...

My iPhone 14 PM iOS 17.1 beta did it last night and a couple of nights ago.

Looks like it was out from 2am-7am

Hey it happened to me that last night for the first time since I got my IPhone 15 PM. I don’t know why I had to put the pin on this morning…

That’s worrying would it affect my alarms ? Could I miss them one day if it happens again ?

When I looked at all the other graph, I assumed it might be an issue with Optimized Charging but it’s interesting most turned off around that same time. This one seems interesting. Has anyone check the crash log?

I haven’t experienced this issue yet. Since some users have mentioned after the

It happen again last night for me. IP15 Pro on 17.1b3. Battery level shows a gap between 4-6am...

I don't use battery optimization, but I have an automation that is supposed to turn off charging at 90%

I’ve just awoken to find my 15 Pro Max rebooted this morning, alarms set for 6am but I wear my watch so the alarm goes off on that.
Charging is set to 80% Limit.

Edit:
Also noticed it says last charged to 80% yesterday at 15:09 which clearly wasn’t the case.

definitely ... as the won't be active during that period.

An indicator is that night stand display goes off too ....

Yeah that’s was the first thing I noticed when I woke this morning, I even started waving at it like a loon to activate the clock and then saw then enter passcode upon reboot prompt when I took it off the stand.

I thought I was having a Deja vue, but we had a similar issue with the 14 last year. Rebooted while idle and charging. I think mine did that too, one night. It was fixed with an update.

No current restarting problems with my 14 Pro - but I don’t charge my phone over night.

I've been a iPhone user since the 4s was released and always have charged my phones during the night times.
I can say with 100% certainly ive never once seen them reboot during the night when on charge. This is the very first time ive seen this behaviour (on my 14PM).

Tonight i have to plug it into charge so lets see what's going to happen???

That’s so worrying I’m hoping Apple will do something quick with an update because I use my phone as an alarm clock to wake up at time every day. Don’t know what to do in the mean time

What is peculiar about this phenomenon is that it happened at about the same time in the night per time zone. Makes me a little conspiratorial, what did Apple poop in my phone while I was asleep?😀 I religiously keep auto updates disabled and it was enabled after the event, this is unacceptable!

I got this for the first time last night — interestingly I'd just switched from the 80% limit to optimised, wonder if that has something to do with it … iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17.0.3, UK.

Seems like this is an intentional thing by Apple rather than a bug, imo, am really curious what is going on there.
