That CPU is faster in single core than most desktop workstations and the GPU is faster than a PS4 and has hardware raytracing. The performance is already beyond ridiculous, what do you need faster stuff for?
I kind of want one to play resident evil lol Needs a battery to match. I’m interested to see how the quoted 29 hours on the max holds up while gaming

Can’t be any worse than a gaming laptop: one to four hours — four hours when only Web surfing 😆

I am so bummed. I was so excited for the 15 Pro and now having just done the compare feature on the Apple site, the pro is almost exactly the same as the 15. The only significant difference being the camera, which for me coming from the SE3 the regular iPhone 15 camera is probably wayyyy better. And mayyyyybe the A17 processor?

Question is, coming from the SE3 would I be happy with the regular 15 or do I need to bite the bullet and get the Pro?
I think the regular 15 is a rock solid choice this year. It has a great processor, excellent camera and even a newer design. You likely won’t be disappointed.

Yeah it’s really great to see real console games come to mobile, finally! I admit this was a big draw for me in the presentation but I believe at least the last few iPhone Pro/Max generations should be able to play them fairly well albeit without the ray tracing which ironically might make the games run smoother and conserve battery life over the 15 Pros. Just speculation though.
Also I gotta agree with the OP who started this; I feel like the things that really would make the iPhone 15 realistically better for me personally are not there. A half ounce lighter is good in the same sense as “it’s not any heavier” so yes that is a kind of a net positive. The titanium brushed metal is also very nice but I’ll really never get to look at it often because I’ll keep it in a case. Super disappointed that the 3nm processor did absolutely nothing to improve the battery life, according to the comparison with iPhone 14 Pro/Max models on Apple’s website.
I still really like the 15 Pro/Max but feel not so compelled to buy one now even though I’m pretty sure it will be a great phone. That new zoom camera looks like it has a lot of moving and precisely aligned parts though.

Because my phone lags when I’m zinging out on coffee 😃

This whole event was a snore fest. I feel like the iOS 17 announcement was actually better in many ways, and that isn't even including the Vision pro. The AAA features could easily be added to the 14. Ehh, I will skip this year again, concentrate on getting a new iPad instead.

99% of normal users will never once need this neural improvement, i bet if you ask 100 people to name one app that uses it, no one would be able to give even one example of an app that benefits from the neural engine

Neural engines in A17 Pro will be used together with the GPU for MetalFX in games. iPhone gaming was the third largest gaming platform in 2021 and is close to take the second place from Sony. I think more than 1% of the normal users will use those neural engines with titles like The Division Resurgence, Assassin's Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4 coming to iPhone.

By themselves yes major improvements. Although it not clear to me how these improvements are all that helpful on a phone.

AV1 is a (relatively) new video codec designed for video streams. It offers significant advantages over the AVC (H.264) and HEVC (H.265) codecs more commonly in use currently. AV1 is royalty free and open source, unlike those other options. It's said that it will revolutionize streaming video, game streaming, and the Internet at large. Things you do on a phone.

HW RT is obviously used in games. iPhone gaming was the third largest gaming platform in 2021 and is close to take the second place from Sony. The upcoming titles like The Division Resurgence, Assassin's Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4 will all use it. The devs in the event video were all talking about it.

AV1 HARDWARE decoding is being strongly driven by streaming of 8K video, not something people do on a phone. Software decoding of YouTube AV1 video is easily handled with the iPhone cpu. If it was a AV1 hardware Encoder ( which is much more processing intensive) that would be a different story but is a decoder only.

What I find interesting is how differently the 15 Pro was marketed than what I was expecting. I was expecting 3nm chip to be a huge leap forward. Nope, just 10% faster and seemingly no improvement to battery life. Thinnest bezels ever on any phone? Nope, just “thinner borders.” FineWoven cases being a big deal? Nope, barely even mentioned. Even USB-C got less time than I was expecting, though I know it wasn’t really something Apple wanted to do. Mark Gurman said the cameras would be the star of the show, but there seem to mostly only be software improvements, no major hardware differences besides periscope lens. And then there was the fact that Apple couldn’t stop saying “titanium.”

Thank you apple for keeping the phone looking almost the same from 12 series.. the money I didn't spend on same looking phone that pretty much does the same thing..(may be little slower).. I ended up buying a cool sports bike without need of any loans. ;):D

Maybe it’s like the 2018 iPad people say that has aged well. I have still never had a reason to update only one extra camera added. Maybe next year.

Agree..may be next year for me as well.. and best part is.. all the pro features in this year's model will be in non-pro model next year.. hope a new design comes along..something that's different to hold in hand..

If you run a comparison between 14 Pro and 15 Pro, very little has changed. Probably the biggest thing is the use of titanium, slightly smaller dimensions, and lighter weight. And of course USB-C.

Apple can claim one superlative this year... "This is, without doubt, the most boring upgrade ever" - Tim Cook.

The best feature of the Pro Models is the lightness and about time. The Pro models have gotten thicker and heavier every year. That's about it.

Another disappointment not listed is that the USB-C connection was not an upgrade over lightning. The fastest iPod data transferal speed remains the FireWire 400 to dock connector from 20 years ago! Apple had downgraded to USB 2.0 and stupidly decided to keep up this standard even while better options exist.

Obviously the Cloud is allowing for passive data sharing amongst devices, but this puts a bottleneck on what the phone can interact with. This may not be a make or break point even for professionals, but it's embarrassing that they wouldn't opt for USB-3 speeds on a device costing over a thousand USD.
