I think the reason why people are disappointed is that Apple has been doing its flagship keynotes (two in a row already), which used to cover new and exciting products. But this time, the changes are so insignificant that they could have been easily listed on the website.

And yes, no charging cable "for the environment" argument was hilarious. I'm pretty sure they first decided to squeeze out some more of those sweet sweet $$$, and then hired somebody to explain that of course it is "for the planet" and "because we care".

A tad cynical are we?? Lol. I think because Apple is so central to a lot of peoples lives(meaning we interface with our phones daily and other products we buy from them) that we hold them to a higher standard or morality I guess? But as I have reminded people a few times already in other threads they are a corporation, for profit, at the end of the day. They have to balance profits, investors/shareholders, customer service, value, etc. I think they are primarily taking the charger out for profits but is it factually undeniable that it has a positive effect on the environment? they are trying to make it a win win scenario. You also have to see that they didn’t raise the prices of the pro line and you’re getting more such as double the storage, 5G, increased water resistance, more advanced chip, they changed the design a little bit, and new cameras, lidar etc.

Ok they’re removing the charger. The cable is still in the box. Half the people buying already have adapters at home they haven’t used and are just lying around somewhere. Other half will probably buy it for 19$. They’re not 40$.

My mistake about the cable. I thought they were removing that too.

Apple: "There's plenty of chargers in the world"

Also Apple: "We're including a USB C to Lightning cable in the box, so it doesn't work with your existing chargers"

I agree with OP. I think I'll be waiting for my desired iPhone for quite some time. I want 120Hz screen, reduced bezels and removed or at least considerably reduced notch. I still have iPhone X and it's perfectly fine when compared to iPhones released in the last 3 years.

I don't care about 5G since mobile data limits are in double digits unless you want to pay a lot for unlimited plan, but even then you are capped at something like 1Mbps after you use up carrier's 'unlimited speed' limit. Results vary from country to country though.

I also don't care about new CPU/GPU, iOS devices are no longer limited by hardware, it's the software that holds them back.

I remember X launch, it was something OMG, I need it now. I even woke up early to drive to the store at 7 AM to have it in the morning, rather than waiting for midday-evening delivery. I know that you can't release something amazing every year but still, Apple's market cap is +2 trillion, I think they can do better.

At least regular iPhone 12 caught up to the other manufacturers and it finally got OLED screen this year, so that's nice.

Honestly the more I think about it I’m actually getting more excited about the standard 12 rather than the pro model. I have a 11 pro but the difference between the 12 and 12 pro are too small to justify paying over a grand. At the same time I don’t know if I need a new phone so there’s that to think about too LOL 😂

Isn’t it the case though, when you see a product in an Apple presentation you can be a bit unmotivated....yet that changes when you see it in the flesh?

Many companies make huge profits without nickel and diming the consumer. Apple used to do that. Now they expect us to still pay the "Apple Tax" while shorting us. That's NOT good business, and it will catch up to them one day.

I really wish it would catch up to them one day maybe they would concentrate on making products better than they are but they keep breaking record sales and stock goes up like crazy, market cap at 2 trillion which makes you think it will never happen, they can just be greedy and most people will always be brainwashed to buy a new iPhone each year.

Actually I have both platforms. You can play Apple's advocate, but the consumer doesn't give a damn what you're running on about. NOBODY likes to feel skimped on, even with something as a charge adapter and cable. And these are not cheap $2 cables either. Consumers are going to have to shell out at least $40 for the adapter and cable.

no, they won’t, because they’ll already have functional ones. If they don’t, that’s really astounding and just too bad. And the cable is still included man, stop using hyperbole. They will pay $19 for the brick if they need it. Cable still included. $19 for EarPods if they really need it.

It’s also possible that you’re the one who has it backwards and can’t see all the good Apple is continuing to do and all the value they continue to provide us.

No Way lol Apple needs a CEO like Elon Musk and you would see crazy new accelerations on new iPhones. Like whatever Apple will release in 2024 we would see it this fall under someone like Elon.

Disappointment is the result of unrealistic expectations.
Personally I wasn't expecting much from the iPhone 12 and my expectations were met.
So I'm not disappointed at all. It's the exact same boring phone I thought it was going to be.

Got to face reality- The days of exciting interesting iPhones are long gone. Nowadays each new model incrementally improves on the previous one

I'm disappointed but not for the reason most would be. I'm not even a potential iPhone 12 customer.

No, what I'm disappointed in, in general is that back when Steve was around you didn't get these announcements of stuff available months down the line.

No, it was generally "Available TODAY" at time of release.

Being wowed by the new shiny thing and then not able to buy it for days/weeks/months is.... less exciting.

I fully expected to upgrade given my iPhone XR is now 2 years old and AppleCare+ expires soon, but watched the keynote and am very much ‘meh’.

I’m not fussed on the iPhone 4-style rectangular sides and there isn’t really enough there to tempt me to spend £600+ to change.

Luckily I checked with Apple and I can extend the AppleCare+ on my current XR on a monthly basis once the pre-paid 2 year time expires. Reckon I’ll do that and hold onto this phone for another year or two, I’m genuinely amazed how fast and great it still feels 2 years down the line.
