I know what's going on....

The seller has a direct buying contact through the Apple refurb center - and all of the MACRUMORS forum members who said they had lines on their machines and sent them back to Apple - this guy is reselling them all at a discounted price!

Now it makes sense.....

If you can't detect it - I am joking....

But - any chance that these ARE all refurbs?

I doubt someone off the street is going to sell rev b refurbs before apple does. Plus he says they're new & sealed..

Successful stammers put a lot of work into appearing legit. This means that every point listed in this thread is not proof that this is not a scam.

If I was going to do an ebay scam, I'd set up an account and bleed a few grand over a year buying and selling apple products. I'd set up a tertiary bank account on campus, which requires virtually no identification for my paypal. Then when the time was right, I'd list 50 machines for an almost believable price and collect $50,000 in a week. I'd log onto forums and say that I believe it's a real deal. I'd return phone calls and emails, I'd haggle and act like a real seller, then once the auctions had all closed and I'd removed the money from my paypal account, I'd have lots of money.

Scammers are smart and not typical thieves. It's not as hard as you might think, though I really do hope you all don't lose money.

Also, paypal buyer protection has little use in my experience. My girlfriend was scammed for $200 for a collectible doll through paypal. Though Paypal sided with her as the buyer, they didn't pay out because they couldn't contact the scammer who had withdrawn the funds from their account. Paypal basically scams everybody into trusting strangers.

Well once one arrives u can check the battery charge cycle to see if it was recharged. Also can check on apples site via serial number when it was produced, registered etc. I doubt they are refurbished as many would still but it refurbished at that price, the guy could just state they are used.

Yeap and that's why on every ebay thread you start seeing all these new posters pop up. A few of us read the forums a lot and haven't ever seen some of these guys post. The marketplace forum has a 6 month rule before you can post - the same should apply to ebay posts. Otherwise you get a bunch of new accounts signed up singing the praises of ebay each time one of these scams occur.

The good side of the grass.
If it were running it, I'd buy three units and ship them pronto to first three buyers to get feedback. I'd also take pictures of the boxes stacked on one another before shipping & PS pic to look like ten and a current USA Today for timestamp.

Then sell 30 of them fast.

Then disappear & buy a new car.

Unless these guys are leaving the country (the guy did have a foreign accent) there's no real way to get away with it. Everything is traceable through the bank accounts. There's always a money trail.

I am a bit worried as the guy is from Israel, and it well Know they come here and scam, then go back home to Israel, the sometimes open a bank account with 20K on thursday, shop all weekend using checks, and on monday withdraw the 20K and fly back to Israel, with all the 20K-30K in gifts, to sell over there, I know this as my mate was Israeli, and the scam is well known.

He (EBAYER)is Israeli so thats just a flag for me. He did not know i speak Hebrew.

That's odd, I would never be afraid of doing business with an Israeli... some of the other nationalities would worry me.

I am very curious to see if everyone who ordered a computer will actually end up with one... Perhaps only the first 3?

Also, if it is a scam, and it happens once too often and paypal is on the hook for thousands, you can bet that the paypal guarantee will go away. No one is in business to pay out money....

holy crap this waiting is driving me nuts..

Seriously? Because didn't you just order it and it just shipped ... err I mean you got a tracking number from USPS that basically means nothing to anyone (even USPS). I guess you'll have to wait and see. I mean, you did say (yes I read this thread) that you were 100% doubly covered through paypal and the fact that you paid via CC. I would say chill and maybe while you wait you can start filling out the necessary paperwork to get your money back from the CC company and paypal. I mean, that seems productive and all. :)

let me write this down and start working on it. you learn all kinds of neat tricks on MR :D

Just kidding, on a serious note i think i am more anxious than the actual buyers, i cant wait to see if this is legit. If it is i will buy one in the event he lists any more..... with my luck the first wave will be his way of setting people up then he will scam people on the second wave of orders lol.

I said start filling out the paperwork. I didn't tell you to send it. I mean, you'll have to eventually is all I'm saying. And you're not chill if you're writing that the wait is killing you. Right?

I laughed in real life reading that, heh.

Anyhow, to pass the time while waiting there's always the 9 page thread from the last ebay scam. Makes for some fun reading, I suppose, instead of waiting and filling out appeal forms?

I doubt he will suddenly leave the country. He's been in the US at least for a while as his email and phone number can be traced, thus his real name can be traced. If this was all a scam and he did flee to israel, and since the he'll be making at least 50grand off this it will be grand theft, paypal will find this guy and charge him in israel.

In general scammers are pretty smart and will cover their tracks, this guy on the other hand has made it sooo easy to track him, either he's extremely careless, or this is for real.

Also, again if these laptops are stolen property, it will be easy to trace him, either in the US or israel.

Ebay operates in israel. There is also an extradition treaty. Why do u think all these scams happen with nigeria, where the government could give a toss if americans were ripped of, rather than UK or Canada. Either way though like i said, i doubt paypal will release the funds right away, i'm almost 100% sure they won't

answered questions:

Asked him two questions today, got replies about the same time, couple of hours later.

First question was asking for a serial number on one of them, to which he said "let us thank you first for your question

we are pulling notebooks randomlly just when we have the product ready to be shipped , so as now we dont know wich serial # goes to who.
from best regards from all usedsnoopy team work!"

ill ask him for a random serial off any of them.

second question was if he will have more available later

"Hi we will be listing more airs on monday

Thank's

Usedsnoopy Team"

Looks like hes waiting for some positive feedback? or if it's legit they might not come/be bought till monday since sunday is no shipping.

half-assed grammar, spelling and poor sentence structure sure doesn't instill much confidence for me. I just received a reply:

"dear ebay memeber.

let us thank you first for your question

your shipment will be processed by tomorow you will be notifyed via email for your tracking #
from best regards from all usedsnoopy team work!"

i don't know whether to be happy or sad about this whole situation.
