It seems the massive Zen 2 improvement in compression applications would be mainly due to the L3 doubling.

Thanks for taking time to post this.

1st thing I noticed was volume of X570 motherboards -I'll take time to review.
Secondly my 1st choice X470 board isn't yet showing as compatible -MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi
As the bios update from msi is getting quite a few failure reports though it is only Beta stage -a few users are waiting for full bios update.
Happy I didn't purchase on launch date though it was extremely tempting.
And I've yet to save for Monitor+Win10 as my recent spec was 715 u.k. pounds approx (I could prob add another 50-100 though wasn't to avoid credit)
I shall review your kind spreadsheet and try and find an affordable X570 (I could revert to my earlier inexpensive X570)

P.s. is taking a drive copy of Win10 from laptop an option though it was pre installed or is brand new required.

Note that the spreadsheet is a guideline and is evolving.

The problem some older motherboards have is that they only have 16MB of BIOS storage, so the new ones don't fit properly.

So MSI, for example, is removing support for Excavator processors on the older boards with the new BIOS. So some people will now how to be wary about used ones and maybe updated new stocks.

The new APUs are not looking much faster than the previous ones. This is expected as they are Zen+ with Vega.

Some A320 boards will also get updates for that.

I will probably purchase this simple X570 Gaming Plus from MSI -MPG X570 Gaming Plus
Which thankfully includes WiFi -I've never enjoyed the idea. Of usb internet access since mac years.

All AM4 motherboards have gigabit Ethernet at least.

Yes though for new build I'll choose a WiFi option for motherboard.
P.c. Wil be in bedroom whereas router is in living room, rather avoid dongles or running Ethernet cables.
I should get Monitor+Win10 funds before ordering or I could start ordering this weekend maybe use 75% of funds and store hardware at home.
Slightly off topic in theory is it possible to build and run a standard HDMI cable to t.v. Whilst I don't have a new Monitor

There are also ac PCIe cards which are a bit cheaper than ax, no need to use USB. But it could make more sense to buy a motherboard that already has WiFi.

My monitor is an HDMI 2.0 4K HDR TV. You can do 4:4:4 8-bit, but only up to 4:2:2 10-bit.

Years ago Panasonic sold TVs with DisplayPort 1.2, the latter being already capable of 4:4:4 10-bit 4K@60Hz.

Thanks my concern since searching is that there is No guarantee that t.v. Will sync HDMI with new build.
There are a few reports where others have had to revert to a Monitor to get a picture at all.
If that is the case it makes sense to save enough for monitor 1st before purchasing hardware for build..
I appreciated various HDMI standards etc -lots of these are available via Apple 4K t.v.

Incorrect random command on new and old AMD CPUs
Some Linux systems do not boot on AMD's new Ryzen processors and have problems with suspend on old APUs. The reason is an erroneous implementation of the random number generator of the CPU that Systemd calls. Systemd works but completely correct, the problem lies in the CPU.
[doublepost=1562739658][/doublepost]Quite astonishing
No dual boot Ubuntu/Win10 with Ryzen 3600

It seems MSI will re-release their previous motherboards with 32MB flash and add MAX to the names. I hope they will also put proper heatsinks. I assume they will be third gen and Excavator ready.

Across vendors, some older motherboards already have 32MB flash but some X570 only have 16MB!

It seems that manually overclocking the Zen 2 cores is pointless. At least with some motherboards. :)
