Are the Mac Pro and MacBook Air running the same version of Catalina? If so, then aren't the /System/Library/Extensions the same? Or do you mean the MacBook Air is running Catalina beta and the Mac Pro is not? You copied all the kexts or just the graphics ones? Did you do a compare to see which extensions were changed (at least compare the versions in the info.plist files)?

So my Mac Pro is 10.15 stable and my MacBook Air is 10.15.1 Beta 3? Ending ...86B, I think.
Anyways it’s running different versions. I couldn’t get the Catalina Beta 2 or 3 to install on my Mac Pro so I took ALL my Kexts under my MacBook Air /System/Library/Extensions
I originally just moved the kexts that involved AMDRadeonX6000 but I couldn’t get the image to display so I think I was missing the display controller. So I went and copied all the kext files that were different between MacBook Air and the Mac Pro.
But I didn’t check the info.plist files...

Seriously....a 12 core mp and kick ass gpu, but with only 8gb system ram?

I actually have 32gb of ram installed but it’s not registering as of currently...I’m working on it ;)

I initially thought I would start a new thread but then remembered there was one already dedicated to the 5700.

Installed with ease, using EVGA PowerLink / 2 x mini-PCIe connections for power and without resorting to carrying out any noise/heat reduction mods as it runs quieter and cooler than my older EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX. I am not sure what those negative/bad reviews were all about. It's even running quieter than my GTX when gaming.

Getting it to play nicely with my Windows 10 installation and AMD's bootcamp drivers was a different story but I eventually managed to resolve all driver / boot issues.

I'll run some benchmarks later. Let me know if you had any specific ones in mind.

Cheers

I'm going to be really superficial for a moment, that distorted design of the front cover and the LED backlit logo would drive me nuts.

Now my question is why do you have little tape squares over the drive bay numbers?
You may want to consider preventatively saving your northbridge and replace those plastic heatsink clips with screws.

That's a new case and Apple ships it that way. As for the plastic rivets, not too worried about it as I dedust once a month and repaste every 6 months. Also, the heatsink temperature is always between 46C ~ 50C.

Is there any Radeon 5700 XT card that has DVI port (dual link of course) to connect it to Apple Cinema 30" without some nasty adapters?

Those 30" LCDs are classic. I'm surprised nobody is out there modding them with current innards.

Relative to current innards at contemporary resolutions, Dual Link DVI is a choke point. If going to have to change the ports and the externals ... nothing particularly significant left to keep.

Thank you Joevt, I was affraid so. The problem is that the original Apple adapter is super-expensive and probably not longer available. There is a huge choice of cheap Display Port to DVI adapters, but not to Dual-Link DVI! If anyone knows about one, please let me know as this is the dealbreaker to upgrade to 5700 XT for anyone with Apple Cinema 30".

Startech:

https://www.startech.com/AV/display...-Adapters/mdp-dual-link-dvi-adapter~MDP2DVID2

I have use the StarTech adapter successfully.

Some adapters might have a Dual Link DVI connector but only support Single Link so you have to be careful. They might support 2560x1440 single link instead of dual link.

I found this adapter:
https://www.amazon.ca/VisionTek-DisplayPort-DVI-D-Active-Adapter/dp/B00DYRQXMK
It's strange because it doesn't require USB power and it's much less expensive.

I use this adapter - also gives me HDMI Audio with out 3rd. party kexts.

HDMI is Single Link DVI. Not Dual Link DVI. Dual Link DVI to HDMI cables have a Dual Link DVI connector but only transmit a Single Link DVI signal. Adapters/cables might have a Female Dual Link DVI connector so you can use a Dual Link DVI cable (with Male connectors), but only a Single Link signal is transmitted.

I'm not sure after going through this thread, is the RX 5700 supported in Catalina now without any hacks?

One amazon review said it didn't work with the Apple 30" Cinema Display. There's a Dell BIZLINK adapter which looks like it might be the same as the StarTech adapter:

Since Catalina 10.15.1.

Hey guys, I just have a quick question for those who are using RX 5700 in their Mac Pro 4,1 or 5,1. Does your device randomly reboot? I’m getting cpu panics one in a while and I can’t seems to figure out why.

Do you think it’s because I flashed 5700 XT boot rom onto it? It’s a shame because it works great otherwise...

What does the panic stack show you?

If you suspect that's VBIOS related, why not flash the original ROM back in and see if it helps?

No issues with mine, running stock rom with no mods.
