Some of the initial AMD RX 5700's had a really noisy fan and ran hot, which some here would hate. Looks like 3rd party are finally able to release their versions.

The Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT has a dual bios switch with one for "silent" mode which is supposed to be based on reference. Most of the newer Pulse models are doing the same. The 5700 XT is rated at 241W. And just a reminder, needs 10.15.1+ for driver support in macOS.

The 5700 uses 185W and would not require Pixlas. The 5700 XT would, however as its over the power budget. (depending on the model)

i still don't understand why almost everyone resists pixlas mode?
once invested half an hour and 20 bucks and you have it out of your head

Personally, it's not about the money or time or even level of difficulty - I prefer to keep my mac pro's hardware original. AMD's lineup of 5700 Navi cards (5700/5700XT/5700XT-AE) are all safe to use in the mac pro without pixlas mod. AMD's reference cards are better in quality than partner or AIB models. I do however recommend an EVGA PowerLink to balance the load from the 2 mini-6s.

if you prefer to original, then put a GT120 or 5770 in +g*

fun aside, if you ever sell your cMP, you can also offer it higher including pixlas mode

A gpu is a peripheral device. I was referring to the mac pro only.

Also, if I ever decide to sell it the best and smartest thing to do is to part it out as it will bring in more $s

Selling a pixla modded Mac Pro May net you higher resale from those without the technical aptitude (or those not wanting) to Do the work.

Is it even worth putting in the RX 5700, I'd imagine you'd be horribly bottlenecked by the CPU?

Got an RX 5700 for my 5,1 to replace the RX 580 I had before...this went smooth, only real pain was figuring out the power cable situation to power the card as I didn't want to do the PIXLAS mod.

Just a head's up for anyone considering RX 5700 or RX 5700 XT - there are pretty significant issues with the METAL driver for 5XXX series in Catalina 10.15.2 when used with Adobe software. It's particularly noticeable with the Mercury GPU Acceleration Engine in AE CC 2020 on many effects. It's a visual bug, not a system crash or similar. You physically have to visually observe the rendering artifacts and issues. Turning/changing to software only "fixes" the METAL issues, but is really not a solution since it disables METAL within AE.

Noticing this with Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT 8GB in eGPU via MBP16,1.
Also running into the same issue with the MBP16,1 native dGPU 5500M 8GB without any eGPU connected.

I cannot replicate the issues with Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8GB in Mojave at all. I've tried every way possible. Cannot swap the RX 580 into eGPU for awhile, especially now that this issue has been discovered.

Going to sleep can cause freezes and kernel panics afterwards. It will be fixed in 10.15.2.

I've waited until I upgraded to 10.15.2 but the panic still is occurring and here's the photo...
I also don't think it's because I flashed a XT on a normal 5700, since I reverted and the issue still continued...

What does the panic stack show you?
