iMessage is a huge trap that seems to have an iron grip on millions of users, particularly in the US. It is a self made trap and from what many people have posted, it is their main or sole reason for staying with iPhone. Good lord people, take control over your lives. Break the iMessage shackles and experience something else. Your world will not collapse and if some of your contacts or friends or family shun you for having the nerve to give the heave ho to iMessage, screw them.
Exactly. I don't understand. OMG my bubbles are going to be green on other people's phones. SERIOUSLY? We are both gone next week and could not be happier. Just paid for Spotify premium. Buhbye Apple Music. I never used any other apple services anyway. BTW Love your logo! and GO HABS!!!!! ha ha ha.

Hmmm not so fast on that argument. It has nothing to do with how other people think of me, lol. It has everything to do with the fact that it is by far my most used app and it's superior to SMS. I share lots of media via messaging, combine that with the integration with my MacBook.

It isn't shackles, it's just better.

I personally don’t believe in the locked in crap

People only get deep into the ecosystem due to how great it works. If it wasn’t so good this so called problem wouldn’t be a problem

It's funny how the mods won't allow comments about a person, no matter how true they are regarding their conduct. But quite happy to let threads like this exist full of petty comments with little factual information.

I've participated on a lot of different forums, but this one takes the cake in terms of mod inconsistency. They're happy to let people derail threads, troll, and spam off-topic nonse. But the second you say anything negative about the person doing it, you get a ban. Its baffling.

100%. It's not Apple's fault that I like how their services work. I just wish I was capable of doing the 2 phone thing because I really like certain parts of Android. I am thinking about picking up a Pixel 4a just so I can tinker though.

After using apple devices for more than 9 years, I laid my hands on an Android device for a short while. It’s extremely unrefined. The customisability is something a 10 year old would love. As an adult, I do not have time to tinker with themes, the haphazard widgets and all. What I like about iOS is that it works the way I want my phone to work. It is simple and it gets the job done. It is like a tool. On the other hand, the android seems something like a gadget you can play with. I got back to iPhone soon as I cannot get adapted to it. I will never go back to Android again.

I'm enjoying the two phone thing at the moment but I question how long it lasts though. Carrying two big phones is a handful

To be fair to the mods, this thread is redundant and is all over the place.
It's better than having good threads ruined by the mentally zealous.

You forgot to add which phone you used. On some Android devices there aren't many customisability options at all.
There are also clean Android phones out there. Which phone did you use though?

I used a Samsung A series phone. I should admit that I may be wrong in my judgement because it was not a flagship android. However, I would be happy to try out the pixel experience. I am not sure if I would use it as my daily driver.

I'm guessing you used A52? Yeah, they have a lot of "useless features" in that phone and it seems to be marketed towards the younger crowd.

Motorola phones have almost clean Android as well. I have a cheap Motorola which I've been using for a year and I think it was less than $100 and I gotta admit, I was pretty impressed with it. It has only one wallpaper included and no customisation. The camera on it is a crap, but the phone itself is smooth and kind of fast when you're not gaming + it has received a lot of security updates. Why am I impressed with the fact that it has received a lot of security updates? When you look at Sony's phones they are kind of behind in terms of security and I didn't expect that from Sony, because of PlayStation.

I have known people who loves Motorola phones. People also talk about pixel experience. I want to try the Pixel though.

Stubbornness and being set in your ways/afraid of change is why a lot of people won't switch from iOS to Android or vice versa.

Why would I intentionally make things harder/annoying just for the sake of change?

sorry but the ecosystem is a thing. When the vast majority of your family and friends have iOS it just makes everything easier.

the off time I text someone that’s on Android it’s switched to SMS. I don’t even have to think about it.

I get that having all products from the same company will work together well. But no way I'm going to stick to the same manufacturer for everything all the time. There's not enough change in between generations to make a worthy upgrade all the time.

There's so many great products out there from all manner of companies. I'd find it boring buying everything from one company all the time. If people like that, that's fine. It's their choice and nothing wrong with it.

I have the same OS for desktop & phone, another for my laptop and another for tablet. I have no issues getting what I need between each device quickly. Certainly don't need an ecosystem to make things work.

What is best is completely up to the individual. Difference between some on here and the trolls, is the trolls will bombard you with useless "information" in a lame attempt to justify their own preferences.

I never understood the hate for 'green bubbles' either. I only see one advantage iMessage has over SMS, and that's working on wifi, no cellular service needed.

That being said, I prefer SMS. You don't even want to know the fights that iMessage 'features' caused me and my girlfriend, who lives in another state. That 'typing indicator' and 'your message has been seen' have caused more misunderstandings than I want to remember. From it showing her 'typing' when she wasn't, me assuming she was ignoring me because my message was 'seen' but not responded to, the works. I'd had given anything to disable those 'features'. As for 'group messaging,' another advantage they cite--I always hated those, especially when I was big into Facebook ~ 2010. I would get a text, assume it's from my girl, and it was a group chat I got added to and I had a heck of a time getting out of. I can't think of one situation where group messaging would be anything but an annoyance.

All I want to know is if my message got sent successfully. If there's a response, my phone goes off and I get a notification. Why complicate it?

SMS does exactly what it is supposed to, with an intuitive layout. It doesn't require data at all, just bars (which is 75% where I live, LTE just sucks here in Owensboro, KY.). It might be old, but if it ain't broke, why fix it? It has a very IM-style layout which is far superior to the long-outdated mess it was on the RAZR VIII.

I don't see the whole 'compressed photos' issue everyone remarks about. Every picture I send seems to not only preview properly on my end but I have yet to get any commentary about 'potato-quality photos'. Also, I don't have to constantly get into an upgrade loop because apps such as WhatsApp get disabled or cease to work if your OS gets too far out of date. Since I don't give a darn about updates I'm safe using SMS and knowing it doesn't need me to keep buying a new phone which is already an issue worldwide if you factor in e-waste. I'm striving to get out of the consumerist mindset so apps that depend on the internet or the latest OS version aren't for me (also don't forget WhatsApp is owned by privacy-hating Facebook)

Also, I don't have to be sure all my contacts install the same app and use it. That would work wonderfully with my 94 year-old grandmother who barely fathoms a smartphone at all, much less switching from SMS which is familiar and easy to use to something foreign. The disadvantages outweigh the advantages in my use case.

For myself, having to install some app like WhatsApp, Line, Telegram or the like feels like going back to the 1990s when AIM, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, and Windows Messenger were big deals--including being built-in to feature phones at the time. I had a Samsung flip phone with Yahoo! Messenger built in, but never used it since only one of my many contacts had access to it.

Don’t forget many are content with what they are using and have no need to switch too. It’s a lot of hassle also for many just to try something that looks and works slightly differently, but essentially offers the same thing.
