Different strokes for different folks.
I don't understand, with all the things going wrong in the world, we are here arguing about which mobile OS is better.
Use whatever OS works best for you, and stop trying to convince me that your choice is the best choice. Because, it's only best FOR YOU.

Not going to comment on which is better, but I do indeed believe the new Android OS looks promising and nice. I'm kind of excited seeing the new Nexus products. I'm especially digging the Nexus 9 tablet.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Been following all the early reviews and the new features are fantastic, but L also looks nicer, better designed and smoother/faster than iOS or WP, while of course having a ton more features and customizability. Its amazing!

I am so looking forward to it, I also couldn't agree anymore, And I have only been using Kit Kat on my Nexus 8, but yeah it smacks the pants off iOS8 in response and smoothness.
Their is no excuse what so ever with Apple releasing buggy software, it makes and desings all the damn hardware it runs on! Yet people will come on here making excuses.... :roll eyes

IOS8 has given me nothing but buggy issues in Safari since I installed it, and iOS7 was pretty buggy too on release, so it's no surprise Android has surpassed iOS now with the added benefit of being much more customisable.

----------

One definite advantage of L over iOS 8 is multiple user accounts. I'm using my mother's iPad this week and it really sucks that I can't make my own user account on it and just access all my stuff and download apps that she won't have to see or pay for.

I utterly agree, I think multiple accounts on phones is stupid, but it makes total sense on tablets, the consiparacy part of me will think they don't do it iOS as to make you buy more Apple products.

----------

While the issue was real, it was over-sensationalized.

Talk about trying to play things down living under a rock, so the bug that deleted all your documents stored in the cloud and affected everybody was over sensationalised eh? In your opinion sir, I think you'll find if asked most people they would find that 'bug' unacceptable.

https://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/29/reset-all-settings-icloud-drive-bug/

And I think it is not being over sensationalised when Apple actually pulls an iOS upgrade from its worldwide release due to bugs in it stopping the phone from working as a phone... You should google that one and see the media out cry it had, it was quite impressive and understandably so.

While no doubt losing documents is bad, shouldn't have happened but stuff happens, which is why I personally have redundant backups. How widespread? One person, ten people, 10 million people? So yes it can be over hyped like most here do and then rub their hands in glee and proclaim all sorts of nonsense about Apple.

NO ONE has blown or hyped anything out of proportion, Apple pulled iOS 8.01 because it stopped phones from working as phones, that's not blown it out of proportion, that's very very very very poor quality control and testing on Apples part as it is entirely their fault. Plus the fact that the document bug affects everyone as it is a bug in iOS8. Again it's not being blown out of proportion.

If this was Android with these bugs I bet anything you would be all over it slating it off claiming how rubbish it was etc.

^^ Agree. My family was impacted for a couple days. However, Android but more specifically AT&T Samsung owners of the Note 3 were SOL for months regarding the use of their GPS until AT&T released Kit Kat. In Jellybean on those units it would go on/off whenever the phones got a call, text or when in and out of LTE.

QC is bad no matter what brand or phone IMO. Seems everything today is made poorly. Even my new DSLR is in for service/review.

Right and there was a workaround. Connect to iTunes done, end of matter. It was blown out of proportion because WHAT IF games were being played by people who weren't even affected by it.

i was not affected by this. Again, I wasn't affected by the "document" bug, but I again ask how many? 1, 100, 10000000?

Ok Apple released software with bugs, big deal. Their track record, except for maps, has been pretty good including IOS 8. Out in the real world people are liking IOS 8 and their Idevices. So bugs and all Apple is still on a roll.

1 is enough. it doesnt matter "how many" if you were the one. sorry, but your messages sound like: "i dont care because i wasnt involved and everyone else is making it as a big deal and only overexaggerates..."

Ok. I was one of the supposed 40,000 people affected. Was it a pain? Sure. And it took me all of about 1 hour after Apple posted the fix to get my phone back on iOS 8.0 with all apps installed and data intact.
Frustrating? Yes. Life ending or Apple doooooooming? No. People in the media made it out to be, because it's Apple. I've had plenty of Android using friends tell me about bugs that basically made one feature of their phone basically useless, but you'll never see that kind of story in the mainstream press.

Sorry it is about the numbers and severity. Apple released buggy software, they are fixing/have fixed the issues.

What workaround? A workaround for the cellular radios not working or a workaround for all your documents being deleted? And as it was a bug in iOS EVERYONE was affected, and no, iOS7 was also like a beta release software, Apple's track record has not been good recently, stop trying to sugar coat it. And this discussion isn't about whether people like their devices, it's that Apple release buggy software.

Fixing I guess, 8.1 is still laggy for me. More laggy than ginger bread, ICS and jelly bean when I had an android phone (sgs2), they were smoother installing the first (and usually only) update versions. The kids have 3 now and they are smoother. I don't know about lolipop though.

ios7 was smoother than those android versions before updating.

I did an ota update and am going do an itunes tonight, leave it downloading as we have slow internet, and see how it is. Hopefully better. As it is though I went through 3 versions of android on 1 phone and never had anything this buggy.

What? And Google bloody doesn't? My Nexus would randomly reboot with Android 4.3, it would just REBOOT! man oh man...

You think only Apple releases buggy software?

Ach. ios 8.1 runs fine on my ipad 2 and certainly more than fine on my iphone 5s. What device is it lagging on, out of curiosity?

I see what you are saying a bug is a bug. However, not everybody is affected by every single bug. The radio issue in 8.0.1 was to connect to iTunes and redownload the update. The documents...only if you reset all settings, I guess. How many people really did that?

I'll 4th that opinion as well.

I'm super psyched that I'll get Lollipop on my Nexus 5 and by then I should have my 6+ with 8.1 on it and can really compare the two. I don't plan on choosing just one though. It's always been my dream to be like Woz and have assloads of gadgets on my person at all times.

Everyone I know is audibly gasping when they hear I ordered and iPhone, but I've always been into gadgets in general, I've just been with Android since the Evo 4G and couldn't go back to smaller screens and less storage. Now I can have both on both. It's a great time to be a gadget enthusiast.

Indeed! I have an iPhone 6+ and everyone I know gasps at my Sony Xperia Z3 :)
Been with  since the 90s but honestly prefer the Z3 except the screen feels cramped compared to the big 6+! Also there are some apps I rely on that don't have good Android equivalents and almost all my friends and family constantly use FaceTime and iMessage. Can't really justify two expensive phones, though. Maybe Android phone and iPad would be a good compromise.
Have to see if 8.1 fixes all the problems I'm having. Would love to try Lollipop, but have to wait on Sony I guess.

5c, two of them. Mine and the wife's, I upgraded them both. Both are still laggy and stuttering.

Some people didn't have lag with 8.01 either some did. I'm 60 and have been driving since about 12 or so, have never had an accident. Some people have.

I'm doing an update in DFU mode right now to see how it is, hopefully it will be buttery smooth. If it's better I will do the wife's also.

I have no plans on going back to android, just disappointed.

My friend has a i5, I played around with it seems to run fine on the latest and greatest. Hope you get your lag issues resolved.

My Dad's old 5 was fine with iOS 8 but my mum's just starting lagging and crashing a lot. I wonder why it varies between same phone models?

Thanks, me too. On 876. of 1.7 mb of downloading a fresh, complete install of 8.1.

Probably cache/settings files.

I find its usually a good idea to reset settings and do a soft reset (home+power) after it each major update.

Apple has built its reputation on simplicity, reliability and 'it just works'. They only release one device a year, they control both the hw and sw, they don't have to support any partners, test 3rd party products etc. They charge an extremely high premium for this.

One would expect Apple would be held to a higher standard and people wouldn't use an excuse like 'other companies also release buggy software'. I've owned iPhones and iPads and honestly the days of Apple reliability are gone, the last few years have seen plenty of disasters. Its just another mobile OS now, just as complex, with its share of problems which the user forums are full of.
