I believe that is what ATT is selling it for too. But at least with the Microsoft store you don't have to deal with crappy ATT branding on the phone or the ATT bloatware. (Of course, in WP you can simply delete all those bloat apps.)

So, you gonna pull the trigger? ;)

Hoping to go tonight actually!

Couldn't find a way to check availability online for the Orlando one to make sure they had it.

Do you know why the ATT one is $99 and the T-Mobile one is $129 at the Microsoft Store online?

slightly modified hardware to allow for T-Mobiles WiFi calling. Maybe one or two more minor differences. I haven't really looked into it further to know everything. The WiFi calling is cool if your house has crappy cell reception.

Good info Jeff.

I get worried regarding those small tools within an app even though they may have the actual app.

I really dont want to go back to Apple (even though everything else I own is apple from the AppleTV, to the Mac, to the Macbook Air. Just cant stand their phones).

This is why I want to test on a WP budget phone and play with the operating system prior to the Iphone 6 release. Android, unless an amazing stock experience can be offered, is done for me for a while.

I recently got a Lumia 520 new for dirt cheap. Besides the horrendous lack of apps on WP, I'm very impressed with the OS. Main reason for getting it was the offline GPS which works great. It's very smooth and quick with no hiccups yet.

If the lack of apps wasn't such a big deal for me, I would have picked up the Lumia 1520 as my main phone.

And just confirming, this is a go phone? No idea what that is really but I can still just take my ATT sim out of my note 3, put it into the 635,and be set?

I asked the guy at the Microsoft Store and he was a little weird with a "I think so". Sounded like a rookie.

a better place
I picked up the 930 today umbranded and unlocked for €430 in CatPhoneWarehouse. Then ordered my freebie €190 accessories from Nokia :)

So far really liking it. General browsing the GUI feels no faster than my 1020 (indeed side by side near identical) but screen is far better, size of the device feels great and wireless charger standard in the box is great. Strangely NO headphones came with it. This is the first phone I've bought that hasn't come with headphones.

Camera is very good as expected but a little on the warm side colour wise.

Main annoyance so far. No glance!!!!

Messed around in the store with the 930/icon and it's such a sweet device. Perfect size imo and the build quality is excellent.

If my experiment with the WP OS is a positive one with the 635,i will be eyeing the 930.

I just checked the specs of both phones and they both have Micro-SIMs, so that isn't an issue. If you had gotten a 1520 (which uses a Nano-SIM like the iPhone, you would have had to get a new sim from AT&T.)

The only difference between a "Go-Phone" and any other phone from AT&T is the GO-Phone is 'pre-paid' and no credit check required. All other phones are 'contract' phones (those sold in AT&T stores, that is).

Long story short, yes; you can pop your sim out of your Note and right into the 635 and it will work like any other phone you put the SIM in. I actually have SIM's from the UK (O2 and Orange), regular SIM from T-Mo and pre-paid SIMs from AT&T and T-Mo. My Lumia 520 was bought from the Microsoft store as an AT&T pre-paid phone just like the 635 you are looking at, and all the GSM SIMs I have work fine in it. ;)

This is a trend with Microsoft now I read. No headphones are going to be included in any new phones. I guess it saves them something like $1 USD per phone??? Maybe they figure everyone has a pair now?

Yep. No Glance. Why Microsoft went with that particular display, instead of using the same type as the 925, 1020 or 1520 was a strange one. Glance is a great feature.

I enjoy the Microsoft store visits as I messed with the 1520 and 930 and both are amazing devices. The 1520 is way too big for my liking as it even dwarfs the Note 3 but that screen is brilliant.

Anywhere to get cheap 635 shells? The ATT version came with blah black. The white display model was nice for the TMobile one.

Likely Amazon. I like the bright yellow shells, so I got one for my 520 off Amazon for around $10. 635 shells look like they are $20. I'm kinda digging the Green color too.

Disappointed even with buying at a Microsoft store it has the ATT tramp stamp on the back

I will say, I am pleasantly surprised how nice this screen looks for a $99 phone. I do have it on high brightness which seems to have the best look so interested to see how long the battery lasts on this setting.

I am downloading transfer my data right now to get my contacts over.

I really like how it feels in the hand. Maybe its because I am coming from the behemoth in the Note 3 but I forgot how nice it is to have one handed functionality.

Any must do things for WP newbies on 8.1?

Go to settings -> start&theme then scroll down to the 'show more tiles' option, if you havent already.

If you want to add custom notification sounds, you'll have to download them on a pc, plug the phone in and then manually move the tones into the Music folder. Ringtones can be downloaded from apps like Zedge on the phone.

your email accounts can be linked, so you only have to deal with one tile on your homescreen. do this by going into one of your accounts (say gmail), then tap the 3 dots on the bottom right of the screen, then clink 'link inboxes'. You do this after you have logged into you outlook, gmail, yahoo, etc accounts.

For map gps "offline" you need to go into settings, swipe right to left to get into applications. Now tap 'maps' and then download the map of your home State and whatever else you want.

Staying in phone settings, if your car has BT, take your phone to your car and click on the 'driving mode' settings. this pairs your phone to your car, so the phone auto switches to driving mode when it senses you are driving. it will read off texts and emails, plus allow for speaking on calls.

staying in settings and scroll down to 'glance' (if you have it) and do not set it to always on. it will drain your battery. set it to peek. that way it only turns on when you place your hand over it or take it out of your pcket.

downlad the new 'live lockscreen beta' app.

download 'locktemp' and 'battery sense'. once done and set up, go back to your phones settings -> lockscreen -> scroll down to notifications and you should have 5 boxes under 'choose apps to show quick status'. add locktemp and battery sense to 2 of the boxes. this allows for your temp and battery percent to show on your lockscreen.

If you use Twitter, pay to download the app Tweetium. it is the only Twitter client on WP that can equate to Android or ios apps.

download the bing rewards app. lots of free stuff you can get just for searching on bing. i havent paid for a single wp app since i started the program. i get $3 in app store credit for every 375 points. so easy.

i will think of more....

I am having issues with the Transfer my Data app in getting my contacts from my Note 3 to the 635.

I've paired them, unpaired them and tried again a couple times. It keeps stopping at 50 contacts out of 205.

The texts came over fine.

Any thoughts?

sorry, you caught me watching ufc fight night.

transfer your contacts to your sim on the note. all should show up on your 635 once you put the sim in. Or make all your contacts linked to Google, so when you link your google and microsoft accounts, you should see both. Been a while since i did that, so I'm not quite sure what i did?

Zedge has notification sounds. You cant just download them from Zedge and pick them to use on individual things like email, sms, etc, like you can on Android?

I think I finally got it to work. That was odd.

This thing is zippy and really liking the simplicity so far of the OS and love the live tiles and the way information is presented to you.

Only 3GB after the internal apps for free space, yikes!

Correct. You can download and install ringtones, but not notification sounds. For some reason, you have to download tones from the PC.
If you do it on the phone, the file can be downloaded and moved to the proper folder, but never shows up to select it in settings.

Yep. Like I said, you need to download your apps to the SD card.
