Also,is there a way to stop the screen from turning on when an email comes in? I would think that would kill battery life pretty fast.

Another small thing but when I visit these forums on my note 3 there used to be a spot where I could click the little button and it would bring me to the last post in a thread. That doesn't seem to be there with Windows phone.

Anyway to turn on the battery percentage to show?

No. You either need to add an app that includes it in its live tile, or simply swipe down half an inch from the top of your screen to see battery percentage in the notification center.

Never really thought about this before. When a notification comes in, my screen stays on for 5 seconds. I like that, so haven't investigated how not to have that happen. Probably under phone settings -> notifications

No little button that I know of. I usually just click the thread title or the last page of the thread on the main screen. I am not familiar with this button you mentioned?

Yea on the right side of the screen would be a blue triangle that would bring you to the newest post in a thread.

No biggie.

I'll investigate how to turn the screen off for the emails as i get way too many for work.

Great battery life so far though. Really enjoying the notifying methods of the system as they are very clean and real time.

Try this. Go to settings -> notifications -> scroll down to your work email email and turn off banners. Should prevents screen from turning on, but still give you the options for vibrate and tones.

That worked.

I enjoy the feature but I get way too many work emails daily that it would kill the screen and a sound alert will do just fine. I do enjoy scanning the emails with the pull down without even opening the app.

The email client is 110% more efficient for me than the stock Android one. It is so fast and enjoy the little short cuts for deleting multiple emails. So much faster.

So far the only thing I dont like about this phone is the screen size but thats not even a phone fault. I am hoping this experiment continues as well as it has started and a possible 930 or 1020 successor type phone is in my future.
It is very snappy, awesome screen quality for a $99 phone, and 8.1 on it is amazing.

Not proclaiming I am all in on WP OS but I am very impressed by the speed, simplicity, and efficient manner of getting through things.

No reason you need to be all in on one OS is there? I still like to swap my phones out when I feel like it.

But def glad you are liking WP. I think it is a great OS, but until the devs make more money on their apps (which means more WP users like you), the app store will continue to lag behind iOS and Android.

I mean I have Apple everything else (Mac,macbook air, appletv) but I've never been a big fan of their phones. I have been wanting to try WP for a while and when 8.1 was shown it made me take the plunge and give it a try.

Its hard to explain. I am not a huge app person as I use maybe 10-15 of them and all the big ones so I am not missing anything so far except Yahoo fantasy sports. I am a big fantasy sports player and I just bookmark the website and pin it and I am good. I wish the pinned websites were "prettier" though on the tile screen.

Download 'Hot Tiles!"
- Make your website tile transparent and use your own logo or image. ;)

You need a consulting fee with all your informational goodness in here.:D

----------

How do you know which apps have live tiles? Is there a distinguisher that will tell you that it has a live tile or not?

I didnt use the more tiles option as the screen is pretty small and it seems to make the tiles even smaller so I kept what it came with stock and played around.

My motto is "Pay it Forward". And I want those coming to WP to have a good experience and enjoy the platform as much as I do. :)

When you go to the app store you will have the description tell you if there is a live tile or that the app supports live tiles. If you see a small icon that looks like a phone over a tablet next to the price of the app, this indicates that the app is supported on multiple platforms. i.e. Modern Combat 5 (which I have on my PC and phone).

See image below. The multi platform icon and the 'live tile' descriptor under the apps image.

What about the stock apps that come with the phone? How do you know if they have a live tile?

Go to your app store, then click the 3 dots in the bottom right hand corner, then click 'my apps'.

This will show all your apps. Click on the one you have a question about and if there is a live tile, it will say so under the app icon, just like normal.

I cant seem to find the white shell for sale anywhere. May have to wait it out and see if they come available on ebay.

The green is pretty nice though but may be a little bright to plop down on the ol table during meetings at work. :D

Newbie question!

Is there a quick way to put the entire phone on silent or vibrate? The only way I have found is to hold down the volume on both media/notifications until it goes to 0.

Turn on quiet hours. You can make it a quick link in your notification center or make it a live tile. Just tap once and phone is in silent mode. Of course, you can make exception for certain callers in your inner circle to break through silent mode for emergencies.

You are using the Live Lock Screen BETA, aren't you?

The BETA is missing the icon images for battery, temp, mail, text, etc. So it just shows a star right now. Each of those stars is for your notification count of calls, email, text, temp and battery life... Whatever you have activated in your settings.

Yes I am.

Was trying to figure that out before asking another newb question.

And it seems we are the only WP users around here, huh? Besides MRU and his new 930 :)

Ask away. Doesn't bother me to answer questions. You'll learn the ins and outs of WP soon enough.

And there are some more users of WP, they just don't post very often. Jessica Lares is one that hasn't posted in a while. I have a feeling once WP8.1 is officially on any phone you can buy, we'll see more trying it out.

It's true. I know it was very easy to put 8.1 on a device but I felt if I wanted to do the true experiment I wanted to run a new phone with 8.1 out of the box and take it for a test run.

After 2 days it hit me. This is the first phone without a home button to wake the device up. Minor gripe but the power button placement and quality isnt wonderful on the 635 and kind of a pain that its the only way to turn on the phone to check for notifications.

I have tried the wallpaper tiles but in the end I have enjoyed just a solid color and rearranging the tile sizes and grouping them together for need more.

Minor OCD complaint. If you use the transparent tile app to make them all the same color, you lose live tile functionality on some of the big ones (weather, facebook, etc). I prefer the seamless look of the colors though so I made that sacrifice for some apps.

Keyboard has been a major struggle without Swiftkey for the last 3 or 4 years on Android but I am getting by.

You know that WP has double tap to wake, right? AKA, LG's 'knock knock'. It is under Glance settings. No need to touch the power button. And if you download an app called Quick Controls, you can put a live tile on the screen that puts the phone to sleep. I never have to touch my power button.

And yeah, I forgot that if you manipulate a live tile with a 3rd party app, you lose live tile functionality.

I did not know that and maybe because I realized in another thread or MRU discussed that Glance feature is gone?

I wish that was the case as the power button location and hard clicky feeling of it isnt my favorite.

Glance is not part of the 930 due to hardware limitations with the screen. The 635 has Glance and double tap to wake.
