Glance is not part of the 930 due to hardware limitations with the screen. The 635 has Glance and double tap to wake.

I dont see Glance settings anywhere. Is it under a category or does it have its own section in the settings app?

Phone Settings - > Glance

Follow this quick guide:
Link - http://www.nokia.com/us-en/support/product/lumia635/smartguidance/?action=singleTopic&topic=B-GUID-F95B9E0E-755A-4C43-B5FC-8552C405B4E1-8_10

Edit: Oh snap, I just saw this on the Nokia site:
It's easy to wake up your phone even when the power key is not easily accessible, for example, while your phone is cradled in a car holder. Simply double-tap the screen. This feature is not supported by: Nokia Lumia 530 / 530 Dual SIM / 630 / 630 Dual SIM / 635 / 636

Its not there. That guide is weird as it says 635 at the top but then also says this within it:
Yeah, I just edited my response. I don't know why my cheap 520 can have it, yet the 635 can not? Makes no sense, as it is not hardware dependent. This is a setting in the kernel that can allow for DT2W. Stupid mistake by Nokia.

Yes I am.

Was trying to figure that out before asking another newb question.

And it seems we are the only WP users around here, huh? Besides MRU and his new 930 :)

Another windows phone user here. My whole family uses them (about 6 different phones, 3 different tablets).

I wonder if it is something that can be fixed with an update?

You got my hopes all up! ;)

With the shape of the outside of the phone the power button is tucked under a lip and is a little tough to push so not a great spot and only way to turn the phone on. As I mentioned, minor gripe.

Well, that does suck, because I never use my power button. Don't like the placement either.
Hopefully, Microsoft adds DT2W in the next update (GDR1) for your phone, because like I said, this is a simple fix within the code of the kernel. Many Android ROM's utilize DT2W and do so with kernel mods for phones never designed for it.

Also if you press on the farthest right to the topic on the mobile version of the topic it brings you to the last page in a topic. Finally figured it out

I hope they add that glance feature.

It's extremely easy. Here are some instructions: http://www.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-81-now-available

I did it on a Lumia 520

Wow, that does sound easy. I had no idea it was that straight forward.

Is there any downside? Will you still get the official update from the carrier? Hmm...for that matter, I wonder if it would make my Nokia 928 LESS tied in to Verizon, more compatible with AT&T :-D

My #1 thing I dislike about Windows Phone is just that the updates are super slow to come, like non-Nexus android devices (although at least every Windows Phone 8 phone is getting 8.1!)

Didn't know it could be done on a 520, thats great.

I have seen them for like $50 and according to most reports on the link I posted, the 520 is better then its new predecessor. Weird

I'd rather have a 635 personally, though it's a somewhat weird comparison. Not sure about the GPU. Same amount of RAM, which is lame, though WP actually runs fine with 512MB, but still, it's skimpy...

But the 635 adds LTE, a larger screen. I think it loses the camera button though, which is weird (if I'm remembering right). Has virtual 3 buttons on the bottom now. The CPU is...I'm not sure. It's clocked 20% faster, but it's an A7 versus the A9+ Krait. Of course there are 4 of them, but I doubt much on phones can really use more than 2 CPUs. Probably the new one is faster in a theoretical sense, but don't know that 20% is fast enough to make up for the slower CPU. I doubt it's bad though at worst, as the 520 is already plenty fast.

Yep... As soon as an official update for your device is available it overwrites the beta developer one.

You just always remain ahead of your carrier :) It really is that easy.

Kind of in a conundrum.

I have a Note 3 and a 635.

My NEXT plan upgrade is on 9/3/14.

I cannot just turn in my Note 3 and save the upgrade. I either have to upgrade for another year or keep paying on the Note for 6 more months until I own it.

The early payoff amount for the Note 3 is $350.

I am unsure if the iPhone 6 will be announced by my upgrade time or if ATT will have a flagship WP I want.

Options:
1. keep paying the Note 3 until ready to upgrade
2. upgrade on 9/3/14 with whatever great phone I decide on (M8,1020,etc)
3. Payoff the Note 3 early and hope to sell it for $400 or so to cover the early payoff fee

Kind of deciding and thinking option 3.

Can you pay just 1 month off so gives you till beginning of October before upgrading ? The iPhone 6 4.7" at least should be available then and maybe a Note 4 announced around same time frame ?

I can keep paying past the upgrade date but I'd prefer not to considering the Note 3 is sitting in a box under my bed as I use the 635 as my daily driver.

I am not getting a phone bigger than 5inches any longer.

I enjoyed the Note but everyday practicality got cumbersome with the size.

5inch would be ideal going forward.

Exactly how I feel about my Lumia 1520. Too friggin big and cumbersome. I'm on T-Mobile and I will probably be unable to sell the 1520 for much more than T-Mobile will give me, so I will probably just give the phone into T-Mo as credit towards the iPhone 6, then pay the remainder off the following month. I hate contracts.

Do we have a carrier forum here and I am just missing it?

I posted my Note 3 as a feeler in the Marketplace as I think I will just pay off the balance to officially own it and then sell it for someone to use.

I am not using it at all right now as I love the 635 and dont want to pay each month for a NEXT plan on a phone I am not using.

Only issue I am having lately with the phone is that when I unlock the screen with my passcode, there is a 2-4 second delay before I can press a tile on the screen.

Is this delay due to the lockscreen beta?

I want to unlock and press something instantly but I always have to build in that delay knowing if I press nothing will happen.

Yep, being reported on all devices with live lock screen beta installed. Even my 1520 has the delay. I basically get a black screen with this on it:

resuming.........

After I uninstalled it, everything starts up instantly.

If it is still plating up after uninstalling change your lock screen to bing. Then change it back after.

I had same problem.

Some folks also found enabling kids mode after uninstalling the beta helped clear out the beta fully.

Lock screen beta was also killing my battery life. They really need to emphasise BETA with that app...

Battery life has been tremendous on this thing.

So I got my 1520 today.

I thought it was a micro sim like my Note 3 and 635. Turns out its a nano sim and wont be able to just switch them between devices.

Talked to ATT and they said I can only have 1 active sim at a time with my number so now my 635 is useless unless I activate and deactivate my phone each time huh.

They will provide me a free nano sim and activate but it will deactivate my micro sim of course.

I guess I will have to sell one.

I didnt even know they made something like that. :)

I still will have to get a nano sim from ATT as of course the micro sim will not fit into the 1520 but then bring that nano sim into the microsim adapter to put into the 635.
