With gift card for $499 is an amazing deal on this phone.

How does it perform ?
How foes it feel to hold and operate one handed possibly

I hear they be releasing some big updates later this month and next month to really fix the minor issues with the phone as far as performance wise and Camera wise and then Oreo I heard should be out by Thanksgiving or December

I really like it, I do not go by benchmarks per se and it performs admirably so far as I am concerned.

I had a few plays with a friend's device he picked up at Best buy about two weeks ago and also with BB's display unit.

Ergonics are great, the phone is a looker and really well made. One handed is going to depend on the size of one's hand but I do not have a large one and I am doing ok in that regard.

One can always pick one up at BB and try it, if they like it just return it regardless and buy it when it goes even cheaper.

Essential has sold just 5,000 phones through Sprint since launch: BayStreet

The essential apps have been downloaded over 10,000 times, so I would think they've sold at least that many.

Also, they are a very small company, while I don't know what their expenses are, 7 million in revenue (10,000 units at $700) is not bad for a tiny company.

Here are some shots with my essential, for those still wanting to see.

Might just be my eye, but these seem a lot better than another set you posted a few weeks ago.
Perhaps the tweaks are working! :)

Those Essential pics are pretty bad, to my eye! It's a tough ask trying to improve it so much but hopefully they can work some magic.

Wow, Essential phone now down to $499 on their website. This is probably where it should’ve been from the start. If your interested, I think this is a great price. I’m heading out now to Best Buy to see if they’ll price match.

Sweet! Just got my price match at Best Buy. So after my certificates, it came out to around $200!

This also means I'll be able to get the iPhone X, so looks like I'll be staying up late to attempt my preorder.

Very happy with my Essential phone, especially at the price I got it for. Any temptation I had about possibly exchanging for a Pixel is gone. Now I'm just waiting for the next update which is suppose to be a big one.

Wow sweet deal, good job. Yeah this new $499 price has me tempted to upgrade to the Essential from my current Nexus 6P. The Pixel 2 XL at $950 is outrageous to me.

Smartest thing they’ve done in this whole thing. I think it’s still a bit high but more tempting now. Imagine if it was $399? I think it’d sell like hot cakes.

It depends on how other $400 smartphones stack up.

And it also depends on how comfortable someone is to buy a phone from a company who's only been selling phones for a couple months. :)

Also, to anyone who may have already purchased this phone (though I think I may be the only one on this board) Essential is offering a $200 coupon, good for the 360 camera (making it free) or for another Essential phone (bringing that price down to $299).

Going to see if any of my family want to give Android a try.

Where would you rank the camera now? Is it still laggy?

Its above average. In good lighting I say its really good, but in low light the quality drops off big time. The 360 camera is laggy, but I really like the quality, very cool taking 360 videos. The regular camera is still a little laggy, it has gotten better though.

There's suppose to be another update coming soon, I'll post more sample shots then.

My only question is how is the battery life on this phone I'm rocking a Nexus 6p that's rooted and ROM and I get pretty good battery life on this phone, not great not bad. I'm getting about four and a half to 5 hours screen on time and I would like to get more. Can the Essential phone get me like five and a half or six hours screen on time?

And performance overall?

Running stock, I'm getting between 4-5hours screen time. Oreo is suppose to improve this, and I'm sure some custom ROMs will start showing up that may allow you to tweak it more to get better battery.

Performance overall has been great. Never had a problem with performance. It was glitchy at first, but since then updates have stabilized it. Only thing I notice is some jitter when slow scrolling (it's fine when I flick to scroll), but that is supposed to be fixed in the next update.

At $499 I look at the 128GB Essential phone as the next gen true successor to the Nexus 6P, and I am going to buy it this week. The Pixel 2 XL @ $950 is nearly double the price, and absolutely insanely overpriced for what you get compared to the Essential. They share nearly the same hardware, except the water resistance, and the 2 XL being larger of course with bigger battery. But the build quality on the Essential is supposed to be like best ever for Android phones.

And I dare say the Essential OS is AOSP, and seems almost more pure Android than where Google is taking these Pixel phones, if you get my understanding. The Pixel line sort of forked off a little different, than where the Nexus phones were going, and Essential is more back to that version of pure Android.
