That's a really good price to be fair.
It seems that Essential have made some good progress with the device, but it still wouldn't be enough to catch my attention anymore.

It just seems really far behind other flagships now though at this point in 2018. Hardware aside, it doesn't have too much going for it (in my opinion) but that's definitely reflected in that lower price which is mighty tempting now, understandably.

For me, I'd rather just buy a Pixel 2 again and use that.

Still dubbing about the Essential PH-1 or 2. What if Essential gets rid of the bottom bezel on the 2 while I bought their first smartphone. Would probably get pissed. I just don't understand Essential why it takes them so long to atleast confirm that they will announce this smartphone very soon.

Anyone install the Android P beta? What's performance like?
I did, would recommend against it. Performance is inconsistent, sometimes it runs fine, other times it get laggy. Their are apps weird glitches (like the dark theme in the notification panels shows up red), the swipe up gesture lags and freezes at times. Overall, not stable enough for prime time.

Can’t see how anyone is genuinely surprised by this announcement. Save for a pretty unique design, Essential botched just about every aspect of this phone.

Heartbreaking. I had such high hopes due to Rubin’s involvement. I think after the release fiasco their biggest botch was the software. An Andy Rubin phone sporting stock Android should have been pristine in usage. With the lower price, it could have carved out a niche in the market and tried for a bigger splash with phone 2.

Oh well.

I waited then once Oreo 8.1 picked one up and love size. No issues. Prompt updates. Rarely touch my iPhone X anymore. And I'm no fan after Surgery, S8+ and Note 8 to buy a Samsung "flagship."

Was set to buy Essential 2. I think they managed in first year to do a lot of good. iOS 11 soured me with Apple. And Samsung's patetuc rollout of software and updates.

Can’t help but feel slightly smug in that this was the turd I expected it to be. A flashy website doesn’t make a good phone.

I picked one up in November when I needed a quick phone after my other went down. I really like it actually. Plan to keep using it until the its no longer functional or the lack of updates annoy me.

It’s fast, fluid, and some of the bugs I encounter are due to 8.1 itself and not necessarily the phone.

Honestly, my biggest company is the lack of a good glass screen protector. God that still annoys me!

Flashy website and all that garbage talk, it’s a really good phone and I still love the design. Sales alone do not determine weather a phone was “good’ or not.

I’ll continue to enjoy my “dead” and “outdated” phone.

And that’s ok too if it floats your boat.

I know you need to tell yourself something to justify dropping the money on one but let’s get serious. This phone did lots of stuff “ok” none of the stuff they said was out of the ballpark was. The camera is and continues to be crap even after subsequent updates. The UI is buggy. The 360 camera is a gimmick. Even after poor reviews, being priced too high and the company literally dying you still expect me to all of a sudden go “oh of COURSE, this handset is essential to my life”

Now it’s a moot point, Rubin missed the mark big time.

One interesting thing they could do if they were about to shutter is release the source code for the boot rom and allow custom roms. What devs may be able to do is very interesting if Essential ever hands over the keys
