Mine is warmer than my old XS Max, my friends Xs, my other friends X, my iPad 11, my Apple Watch, lol, it’s just definitely more yellow. Especially noticeable in grey shades.

Do they get hand-picked samples? They also measured the XS Max last year to be 6511/6522. Most here are reporting warmer screens than their XS (Max). The data doesn’t jive with what most in this thread are seeing.
If anything, the reports of "BEST SMARTPHONE DISPLAY" pushes my emotions over the edge of going to the store tomorrow and asking for a swap. Not gonna keep a defect of a reportedly perfect product.

My concern is they are all sold out around me now in NYC, and I don’t want to miss the return window, I wonder if I can exchange for a brown box since they usually have those.

You get 14 days to return. I'd keep checking stock each morning. Personally I wouldn't exchange because at some point, they will refuse to keep exchanging. If you're able to, I'd return and buy.

I am absolutely happy with my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I leave True Tone off. With auto brightness on. My display is beautiful and white.

True Tone looks really weird to me on any iPhone or iPad in my house. And I just don’t like True Tone very much.

with True Tone off my display looks very WHITE!

with True Tone on any Apple device looks yellow. And I’m just not use to it.

I literally made this account so i can post.
My iPhone 11 Pro Max also has a dim/yellowish display. At first i thought i was just seeing things.

But when i compared side by side truetone off, night shift off as well i saw the major difference. The XS Max display looks way brighter and overall just better. The whites are white like they supposed to and just looks perfect.
BUT I did see when you disable auto brightness you literally see the display shift into a perfect bright display. And when you turn it back on you get that dim display again. Im really hoping it gets fixed with tomorrows update. Either way im taking a trip to the Apple store tomorrow as well (unless update fixes it).

Actually I’m using True Tone now. And it looks better. Maybe I just needed my eyes to adjust. It looks identical to my wife’s iPhone 8. Slightly warmer in color.

Just got my 2nd iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Once again it's amazing the variance of these displays on the exact "same" product.

The Pro Max I got today is slightly warmer and slightly dimmer than the launch day Pro Max, however less color shift, more even throughout, and the colors are more vibrant. It's like somebody took the saturation slider and cranked it up +10%. Really evident on the new default wallpaper.

And yes True Tone, auto brightness, etc. are all off.

They just need a white point slider. I don't get why they are so resistant to it.

And also True Tone mirrors the room lighting. Go into a room with yucky yellow lighting and watch the screen turn yellow. It's not a permanent fix. We need a white point slider!

Below: Look at the photo I attached, the left one is the new one. If you compare the yellow and orange for example, the new phone is much more saturated. Launch day phone is more washed out in color. In real life the difference is even more striking.

Went into Apple store today and looked at eight different iPhone 11 pro Max. I compared each one to my iPhone and 7 out of 8 We’re all yellowish. Every one of the eight iPhones had auto brightness ON
Bottom Line: it seems that Auto brightness is ON by default and turning it off will produce a white screen

People are returning several phones. It’s so apparent that people get a phone and the first thing they do is look for problems. If you’re going to be THAT adamant about finding a problem, you are going to find one.
Yeah good luck trying to
I never used color tint before, the screens by default were calibrated in a way white was white. My iphone X looked whiter than my new 11 pro max.

i dont want to have to use color tint, as it goes too blue-ish in the best configuration.
Plus the color tint automatically lowers the brightness compared to when it’s off.

So what's the verdict on keepers/returners, given the new one is better in some ways but even MORE yellow?

I went through 2 Pro Maxes and both quite yellow with TT off. I will likely try for a 3rd this weekend but if that’s still yellow I am giving up. It gets exhausting lol.
I think it will be the same result. I suggest waiting at least 2-3 weeks. Most likely all these phones now are equipped with the same batch of screens, which means they’ll look more or less the same.

This is assuming that the "fix" is that Apple will have non-yellow screens.

To be honest screen uniformity is even more important to me than color temperature. The minimized color shifting of the new one makes it better. Even though the first phone was cooler, the top portion of the screen would be a slightly different color and it's something I always noticed when reading white backgrounds. The color vibrancy is a bonus. I'll be keeping the new one. It's only slightly warmer but fixes the other issues. Even if Apple adds a white point slider, it's not going to fix the phone with the color shifting.

As an aside, the battery life has been amazing, I was down to 64% yesterday after 24 hours of usage. Really loving this generation and can't wait to see what next year will bring (besides even more yellow screens :p).

on top of that, when i go to change the wallpaper in my 11 pro max, the colors are way crispier than when i select it as wallpaper and goes to the lock screen. i am in beta 4 13.1, and it bleaches the current wallpaper in lock screen and home screen. I dont know if it is a bug, i dont remember this in 13.0

iOS 13.1 Beta didn't resolve any problem, unfortunately... I will return my 11 PRO next week... the colors are just horrible

We’ve had 4 users in this thread including myself measuring their retail 11 pros and all have come to anything between 6450-6500 kelvin. For me it puts the display accuracy thing to bed. It’s not hand picked samples but rather all/ most phones are calibrated to that standard with minor variations :)

A properly calibrated display looks warm to most people because most people are used to improperly calibrated displays. Nothing in the natural world is pure white. White is always reflecting the world around it.

I blame Samsung, with their calibration on their super amoled right from the start.

No one wants to carry a neon sign with them, but it trained people that’s how it’s supposed to look.

Not to hijack the thread but anybody else have any other QC issues?

I’ve had the screen issues every year; got lucky this time. The only defect is a minor edge blemish on the PVD coating - like the size of a pin head ... can only see it if it catches the light.

So many many things can be worse if you do the iPhone swap lottery

I posted on another thread, but my screen has scratches and weird pressure mark looking scuffs out of the box. Shipping box, Apple box and plastic overlay were completely undamaged and the plastic camouflaged the screen somewhat. The phone has no other marks on it at all. I’m kind of laughing ( and also annoyed ) at people exchanging 16 phones because they think a screen looks a smidgen yellow, when now I have to wait 2-3 weeks for a replacement. I’d take one of those ‘yellow’ screens.

It’s on its way back to Apple now for an exchange.

It's the same every year.
Wait until November before buying the latest iPhone.
It's really sad to see people unhappy with such an expensive product. You've no doubt worked many many long hours and paid tax on those hours of work just to buy this factory made product which also had tax added onto it. DAMN! :)

It's it's not perfect, then return it and wait. And also shame on Apple for lax QC and pure greed. It makes me feel ill to be honest.

You should. The 11 LCD is a good display. And we already saw, that there is much variance in OLED displays... So you could a good one or not... Go to the store and doublecheck!
Yeah turning off auto brightness helped but using for the past day and comparing it against my XR I am now seeing a rainbow pattern at my normal viewing angle. If I tilt the screen I can see a band move back and forth across the screen. I can do that with my XR but it’s on visible at extreme angles well outside of what you would normally look at the phone. Back to the store. I am disappointed at buying a phone for a grand and having a less than great display. This sucker is going back. Probably not going to get another.
