Mine is warmer than my old XS Max, my friends Xs, my other friends X, my iPad 11, my Apple Watch, lol, it’s just definitely more yellow. Especially noticeable in grey shades.
If anything, the reports of "BEST SMARTPHONE DISPLAY" pushes my emotions over the edge of going to the store tomorrow and asking for a swap. Not gonna keep a defect of a reportedly perfect product.Do they get hand-picked samples? They also measured the XS Max last year to be 6511/6522. Most here are reporting warmer screens than their XS (Max). The data doesn’t jive with what most in this thread are seeing.
My concern is they are all sold out around me now in NYC, and I don’t want to miss the return window, I wonder if I can exchange for a brown box since they usually have those. If anything, the reports of "BEST SMARTPHONE DISPLAY" pushes my emotions over the edge of going to the store tomorrow and asking for a swap. Yeah good luck trying toPeople are returning several phones. It’s so apparent that people get a phone and the first thing they do is look for problems. If you’re going to be THAT adamant about finding a problem, you are going to find one.
Plus the color tint automatically lowers the brightness compared to when it’s off.I never used color tint before, the screens by default were calibrated in a way white was white. My iphone X looked whiter than my new 11 pro max.
i dont want to have to use color tint, as it goes too blue-ish in the best configuration.
Just got my 2nd iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Once again it's amazing the variance of these displays on the exact "same" product.
The Pro Max I got today is slightly warmer and slightly dimmer than the launch day Pro Max, however less color shift, more even throughout, and the colors are more vibrant. It's like somebody took the saturation slider and cranked it up +10%. Really evident on the new default wallpaper.
And yes True Tone, auto brightness, etc. are all off.
They just need a white point slider. I don't get why they are so resistant to it.
And also True Tone mirrors the room lighting. Go into a room with yucky yellow lighting and watch the screen turn yellow. It's not a permanent fix. We need a white point slider!
Below: Look at the photo I attached, the left one is the new one. If you compare the yellow and orange for example, the new phone is much more saturated. Launch day phone is more washed out in color. In real life the difference is even more striking.
I think it will be the same result. I suggest waiting at least 2-3 weeks. Most likely all these phones now are equipped with the same batch of screens, which means they’ll look more or less the same.I went through 2 Pro Maxes and both quite yellow with TT off. I will likely try for a 3rd this weekend but if that’s still yellow I am giving up. It gets exhausting lol.
This is assuming that the "fix" is that Apple will have non-yellow screens.I think it will be the same result. I suggest waiting at least 2-3 weeks. Most likely all these phones now are equipped with the same batch of screens, which means they’ll look more or less the same.
So what's the verdict on keepers/returners, given the new one is better in some ways but even MORE yellow?

iOS 13.1 Beta didn't resolve any problem, unfortunately... I will return my 11 PRO next week... the colors are just horrible

A properly calibrated display looks warm to most people because most people are used to improperly calibrated displays. Nothing in the natural world is pure white. White is always reflecting the world around it.
Not to hijack the thread but anybody else have any other QC issues?
I’ve had the screen issues every year; got lucky this time. The only defect is a minor edge blemish on the PVD coating - like the size of a pin head ... can only see it if it catches the light.
So many many things can be worse if you do the iPhone swap lottery
Yeah turning off auto brightness helped but using for the past day and comparing it against my XR I am now seeing a rainbow pattern at my normal viewing angle. If I tilt the screen I can see a band move back and forth across the screen. I can do that with my XR but it’s on visible at extreme angles well outside of what you would normally look at the phone. Back to the store. I am disappointed at buying a phone for a grand and having a less than great display. This sucker is going back. Probably not going to get another. You should. The 11 LCD is a good display. And we already saw, that there is much variance in OLED displays... So you could a good one or not... Go to the store and doublecheck!
