We’ve had 4 users in this thread including myself measuring their retail 11 pros and all have come to anything between 6450-6500 kelvin. For me it puts the display accuracy thing to bed. It’s not hand picked samples but rather all/ most phones are calibrated to that standard with minor variations :)
Right but many are saying that their 11 is much warmer than their XS’s. So if we’re saying that the 11’s are accurate, the supposedly accurate XS’s never were. It’s one or the other.

I think that both of them aren't accurate... Some people had 2, 3 or 4 XS until they finally got a "good" one with a true white and it seems to be the same for the 11 PRO / Max.

I measured mine at around 6650 kelvin, which IMO creates a display that's very cool with a green cast with True Tone off, and a very warm screen with True Tone on. It's almost like True Tone overcompensates on a cooler display.

Yeah turning off auto brightness helped but using for the past day and comparing it against my XR I am now seeing a rainbow pattern at my normal viewing angle. If I tilt the screen I can see a band move back and forth across the screen. I can do that with my XR but it’s on visible at extreme angles well outside of what you would normally look at the phone. Back to the store. I am disappointed at buying a phone for a grand and having a less than great display. This sucker is going back. Probably not going to get another.
This is my first OLED display. I think what you describe is normal for OLED. This is something IPS lcd displays are better at. These OLED screens are designed to shift white towards blue when off angle.

its weird, my XR looks more blue than a couple Pro Max and Pro's I picked up in the store in the part of the store with less light (accessory wall vs. the tables)

Pro Max and Pro seem a notch or two brighter than my XR against settings white backdrop,

The 11 next to my XR looks a handful of notches brighter and not really noticeably warmer

I'm working with them about the matter of going into the store and the staff saying they didn't see anything wrong or couldn't see it. Then told me at the store I needed to inspect the new ones in front of them or I should go buy the phones somewhere else. As you can imagine, having debris under the glass and a non uniform screen were problematic for me and their handling of the situation less than stellar.

They are investigating and wanted to service the phones for repair. I don't believe in repairing a 1 day old phone....

so, the pro and pro max for you where: white or yellowish screen when checking a "white" background UI?

A bit yellow, but not super yellow, not sure I would be upset if I had the units I was looking at ... still PWM / tint shift bothers me more

I don't think these displays will run cool with the 2 mil to 1 contrast ratio, and OLED/Dolby Vision specs, etc. thats just the nature of home theater calibrations if you want accurate it has to be a bit warm

I think the 11 looks a lot more pleasing to the eye for non video watching, didn't really seem warm to me the two units I looked at. save some money and get a display you aren't bummed about

Just set up my new 11 pro max and straight away it seemed quite ‘yellow’. To make sure I wasn’t just imagining it I have placed it alongside my Xs max, same display settings, TT off and it’s definitely dimmer/warmer than the Xs. The Xs has a more brighter and crisp display and I know this will bug me with the 11 pro. I know there’s always variations between all displays but this is quite obvious.

Now I have to decide whether to return it or not. If I do it won’t be for another unit as I can’t be bothered with all the hassle. Other than that the phone is very nice.

My first iPhone 11 Pro had this same issue. My XS was waaaay brighter and crisper, I returned it and the replacement had a perfect screen. however, the modem of the replacement fried, and I just swapped it for the regular 11 in yellow, perfect display even if it's LCD :)

My first iPhone 11 Pro had a dingy yellow display, didn't get as bright as my XS did. Returned it. Went to the apple store today to check out their demo units and all of the Pro models had a weird blue tinge to them that the 11 didn't have. Got the 11 instead and it's a gorgeous display, perfect paper white and no issues. Good luck folks!

Here's a pic of the demo units, hard to tell from picture but you can see how the Pros have pink blueish tinge to them. On both pics, the iPhone 11 is always the one furthest left.

It looks pinkish
BTW, congrats for your downgrade. 😂

Hard to call it a downgrade when the pro screens are wildly inaccurate
Bigger battery, Amoled, stainless steel, one extra camera is not worth spending $300? Maybe some extra software features reserved only for pros. We'll see.
P. S. I'm considering also the Pro model, but for Christmas, hopefully will find some deals and also to compare it hand in hand with my LG V50.
From what I have seen in photos and YouTube, the V50 seems a bit better with cameras and cameras software is more versatile. But I need to check in hands.

Battery performance now only matches the 11/XR.

OLED screens have proven to be junk. Color shifting, PWM flickering, variations in color temp and accuracy. If you get a good one, cool. Many do not.

Third camera - no, not worth it. 99.9% of al pics will be on single main camera anyway.

I'd pay more for the 11 than the pro. i think its the better phone, with the better screen for real-world performance.

Wow, those Pro display's look just like how Samsung displays look when they're first launched or in general... TRASH!!!

I was on the phone with apple for about an hour. They have no idea what i was talking about and have never heard of any faulty displays supposedly.
He advised me to either get it replaced with my carrier since thats who i bought from directly or take a visit to the apple store and compare the screen to other 11 Pro Max displays and that maybe thats just the way the screen is supposed to be.
Either way i have a reservation later today and im gonna see what they tell me ! And yes i have updated to iOS 13.1. Still the same dimmed looking display.

Has anybody tried to contact apple to see what they sas about that?
I did, they have no idea what i was talking about. It was really frustrating

EDIT
just came back from the apple store. I compared 4 different iPhone 11 Pro Max to mine. They were all brighter and crisp white like they supposed to be compared to mine.
i walked over to the genuis bar cause i had a reservation.
Long story short, Girl pulls her XS Max out and right away “okay whoaa its definitely not as bright“ and tells me they dont have any in stock or any parts available to fix which obviously i wont do. Why fix a brand new phone. So she advises me to go to my carrier which i did right after.
In my case i get to Verizon, right away puts in my order to get mine replaced. But wont get to me till Oct 9 or so. And just gotta send mine back once i receive it.
Hopefully its a good unit and not the same dim display. If its the same, im done and just gonna keep it like that.

Yeah, this has always been the case. I remember I made a post about the 4S yellow screens that said something along the lines of: prepare for the genius to look at you like they have no remote idea what you are talking about. Nice that some things never change.

Trust me, Apple knows they launch yellow trash in the first few weeks. It's called profit optimization.

EDIT: Found it. It was actually the 3GS.

Told ya this trash happens every year!

Ok so, I'm literally at the Apple store typing this. I'm not going to call this entire thread fake news, as there has been tangible evidence produced.

However, the stores 11 Pro Max is definitely brighter than my Xs Max. This is with True Tone turned off and auto brightness turned on but turned all the way up. NO LIE!!!

The stores unit is also flawless and uniformly white, with no hues to be found. Again, this isn't to minimize anyone having issues, but as anything YMMV!!!

I'm pleasantly surprised and impressed.

Edit. Upon further review let me state, I am on 13.1 and the store unit is on 13.0. Also, I will say the colors seem a little more vibrant on my Xs Max, like they're punchier ever so slightly.

Edit #2. My Xs Max has more contrast, like it's sharper more in tune. The Pro Max is ever so slightly fuzzy.

You literally just proved this thread to be valid. The point is that SOME phones have yellow tint and SOME do not. Thats been the point every year. And the solution - return the phone and hope for a good one.

Best odds - about 4-6 weeks after launch day.

Is that because it’s still in the limelight but not enough to let production go to crap yet ?

Your 11 regular working out ok?

Well, my argument is that tolerances for variance are relaxed during this time, so more tinted screens get deployed or signed off on/ The guidelines tighten back up after launch. OR a yellow residue that gets deposited on screens wears out after the first run. There are reports of yellow residue being an issue when new production lines are started up on displays.

I haven't gotten the 11 yet.

11pro - screen is yellow compared to XR. In some situations it looks more natural, others not so. It does look like true tone is on, or night, but they're all off. I don't mind it, just odd how different it is, regardless of OLED, from XR
