Yeah, if it was possible to hold it for purchase at the store, would work well, return this one, and use gift card for a new one thats being held for me. I'm in a position where I have to go there and hope that they don't sell out before I get there. I'm in NYC, and I want the Green Pro Max 64gb, only 5th Ave is still showing in stock today. Will it still be in stock before I get there around 6pm, who knows.

Interesting results with my Datacolor Spyder X colorimiter. Also threw the iPhone 5s in there for the lulz since it was on my desk. Turned off all auto settings (night shift, true tone, auto brightness) and set them to full brightness. Used the wide-gamut LED calibration profile for my probe. Loaded an about:blank page into Safari to get white.

While I'm not sure if the "glue dry" claims are true, it could be possible that some wear-in is necessary for it to even out. OLED screens are notoriously non-linear and difficult to calibrate. That and different glass coatings can cause different types of viewing angle shift. It seems out-of-box yellowness is common for many even going back to previous phones, but not sure if any resolved on their own or not? If I don't end up exchanging it maybe I'll try probing my 11 Pro again in a week, and after iOS 13.1 releases. Could also be possible the screens are running in the wrong colorspace or mode due to iOS 13 bug? Perhaps this has to do with tweaked HDR / SDR handling or tonemapping. The standard UI runs in SDR space. We'll see.

It wont change. People have tried to claim for years it does. It does not. Eyes adjust.

The software theory has been around since the 3GS had these same issues. I can assure you, no software update is coming that will affect calibration. This is 10 years straight of the exact same pattern, same arguments.

I'm curious to know those who are comparing their 11 Pros to their XS/Max or even X, were those launch day phones or bought later?

I went through 3 or 4 XS Maxes last year before I finally gave up. They were all warm toned and the thread last year was even bigger than this one is after launch weekend. It's just interesting to me many people are claiming their XS/Max was "perfect" and their 11 Pro is too yellow. This was a big issue last year during launch too (well, many years past but I definitely remember last year because I exchanged so many phones personally).

I don't buy that. I can't even count the number of OLED phones I've had now. The ones with perfect displays stayed perfect, the ones that sucked remained crappy.

The one I'm comparing it to is a warranty replacement Xs Max, only 4 months old. Actually it's worse than one launch day Xs Max I had.

I went through 4-5 X's back in 2017. The first ones all had disgusting dingy/yellow/uneven screens. I got a perfect one a month after that when the Qualcomm modem unlocked version was released. That screen is even and white. Needless to say, that, unfortunately, my new 11 Pro can't hold a candle to it! It's way warmer and not as even. I already compared it to some other store units and it's going back: every store unit was whiter than mine.

Going to wait until iOS 13.1 to decide if I want to exchange mine or not. I'm still wondering if it's some kind of colorspace bug.

According to DisplayMate's testing the whitepoint does differ depending on whether the display is in sRGB or DCI-P3 gamut modes.

Would you mind posting a picture?

thanks

I'm wondering, can I buy for pickup at an apple store, and then exchange when I get there? I see one Apple store near me has stock of my model, but by the time I get there, it may be sold out. Can I buy now and then exchange when I get there?
You could buy that one pick it up and return the other. That's who I do it sometimes. Rather than an exchange. I intentionally buy one online for in-store pick up and return the other for a refund.

Edit: I did read other posters after this for the responses, you may want to talk to them in regards to how this works because if you already trade-in. etc.

For me this is why I always don't choose the option and I do the trade in after the fact that I have found a perfect device.

I'm running 13.1 Beta 4 and there is no change in color. The screen is how it is and if you have tried ticking the boxes back and forth a few times on auto brightness and tru tone then that's about as good as you are going to get aside from your eyes adjusting.

I had this issue on the 3GS, some thing never change!

I stopped caring and got used to whatever tint I got from the panel lottery.

Much less frustrating o_O.

I must say I’m not super happy with the display on my 11 Pro Max. Yellow and dingy. I’ve tried to get used to it, but it doesn’t feel right for such an expensive device.

Why does it look great with True Tone disabled? Chance this could be fixed via software?
I've had the X, XS, and 11P, and true tone looked yellowish when on, so I just turned it off (IMO it looks fantastic with it off). Some love it, but, I hate true tone.

Confirming this. I was running the 13.1 beta on my XS Max and running 13.1 beta on both 11 Pro Maxes I've had and it does nothing for the color temperature. Highly doubt the full release tomorrow will either unfortunately.

Well with 13.1 public and my color probe tests hopefully I'll have a compelling enough reason for them to swap my phone in store tomorrow :c

I think there may also be some truth in waiting for later batch models. My Xs max was bought in February this year, so it was quite a while since the first launch models and the screen is perfect. A few years ago I was the first to purchase the S8 and it took 3 exchanges to get a screen that didn’t have the red hue problem that was widely reported amongst those first batch models.

Might give it a couple of months and then consider a re purchase as at the minute it seems a bit of a lottery.
There may be, although I've waited and purchased new devices after some months and had just as much luck, or lack thereof ... I suspect the lottery still exists.

This whole issue reminded me of the iPhone 5 screen issue that exhibited scanning lines noticeable on max brightness. That was a real deal! It was hard to see them right away, but, oh boy, that had an impact on your eyes. It got resolved months into production and was gone for good. I had to replace some units though due to that. There is definitely some truth to the fact that chances of getting better units some time into production are higher.

Time to email Craig Federighi and plead for a whitepoint slider. I did a few months ago and he responded, but responded with the usual turn TrueTone off etc., when it already was.

Time to get out the pitchforks!

WHAT DO WE WANT? A WHITE POINT SLIDER! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? 4 YEARS AGO!

Lol! I wish. I've never emailed anyone but I've always sent in feedback requests. I feel like this is a typical case/example of "Apple knows best." But EVERYONE has different preferences and there's no pleasing everyone with one setting like this. There's a reason display manufacturers allow the consumer to adjust settings like this. A simple white point slider or RGB setting would eliminate threads like these and the constant returns/exchanges by some (myself included) in hopes of getting a display we're happy with.

It’s been 3 days and I cannot take the yellowish/warm tint on the MaxPro! I will probably be at Apple tomorrow and see what they can do if anything. 🥴🥴🥴

Just return it and buy a new one. There is plenty of stock everywhere. Just check online in the morning. If you exchange it under warranty, you’ll be stuck. They will not exchange it again for the same reason. They will tell you it’s within specs blah blah blah, so always return/re-buy.

This afternoon I went by an AT&T Store that had an iPhone 11 Pro Max demo unit. I changed the settings on the demo unit to match the settings of my iPhone: True Tone Off and Auto-Brightness On. I also verified that the brightness sliders on the demo unit and my iPhone 11 Pro Max were at the same level. The display of my iPhone looked dingy in comparison not only to that of the demo unit at the AT&T Store but also vis-a-vis the display of my Xs Max. This leads me to belief that the occurrence of dingy displays on the iPhone 11 Pro Max is not the result of a bug that can be fixed in the next revision of iOS 13.

Do they get hand-picked samples? They also measured the XS Max last year to be 6511/6522. Most here are reporting warmer screens than their XS (Max). The data doesn’t jive with what most in this thread are seeing.
