1. Holy cow!! Everybody go turn off Auto-Brightness in Accessibility and watch your screen go really really bright after 5 seconds. It’s impressive how bright this Pro screen gets. I’m also quite intrigued by turning off Auto Brightness because it seems to have affected my True Tone sensor. My lighting hasn’t change yet True Tone is not as warm as when the brightness was set on auto.

Holy cow indeed! Turn off auto-brightness, and wait for a few seconds! It is amazing! The screen goes back to perfect temperature and is MUCH brighter! => I checked the brightness level before turning off, and it is the same level after turning off auto-brightness, yet the screen looks SO much brighter and definitely less-yellow! I had to question whether my color filter was still on (it wasn't)! Is this an iOS 13 bug? ...or an issue with the 11 Pro?

I mean are they even worse, do we have people that return their car 16 times for minor issues? Or is it just Apple that is supposed to be perfect every time?

You’re supposed to inspect your car and new home before delivery.

With new homes, you do a pre-delivery inspection and the builder will correct dents, cracks, blemishes, defects, etc.

You don’t just blindly buy a car and not test drive it or not have it inspected, then expect it to not have any noticeable problems.

These yellow displays on the new iPhones are noticeable even without something to compare, because the whites are way too yellow.

You can’t inspect your new iPhone before buying smh

my iPhone 11 pro max is also yellowish tinted, i compared it today with a colleague that has the XS max, and hers is whiter, clearly. I played with auto brightness off, true tone off, and even color tint feature of accesibility, but this screen should be whiter out of the box, without a color tint feature on!

I dont know wha to do, as the rest is ok: i mean, cameras, and everything. No dust in cameras or screen, so switching it might be a bad idea. I guess I can get used to it?...

Will 13.1 change something tomorrow? Can screen calibration or temperature be also tweaked by Apple in iOS updates? Or out of the factory is too late?

As it has been stated by others in similar threads, 'Auto Brightness' is turned on by default on the 11 Pro's, even if you restore from a backup. For some reason, this option caps the max brightness out of the box and impacts the overall vibrancy (very slightly).

When you un-check Auto Brightness in Accessibility preferences, the max brightness eventually goes up, as does the vibrancy as well as the temperature. I also always slightly tweak the 'Color Tint' options in Color Filters to even out the temperature to what suits my eyes best.

Apple's displays typically skew heavily on green out of the box, which I cannot stand, so I always tweak all my displays (including my MacBooks) to correct this. Most people do not see this, I just have a weird sensitivity to this color shift and notice it more than others. For example, my display may look like it skews slightly pink/blue to people who are used to (and like) the default green-ish tint, which looks dingy to my eyes.

I never used color tint before, the screens by default were calibrated in a way white was white. My iphone X looked whiter than my new 11 pro max.

i dont want to have to use color tint, as it goes too blue-ish in the best configuration.

While everyone describes seeing a ‘yellow’ screen, you are correct about it actually skewing green. This could all be fixed with a few simple RGB sliders.

I went from a 7+ to the pro max. I have a 2nd generation 12.9 iPad Pro. I use True Tone on the iPad and think it looks great. My pro max was so yellow out of the box I could not get used to it. I finally started comparing side by side. With True Tone off on the phone it is still more yellow than the iPad with True Tone on. Seems to be a yellow cast that is bad when looking directly at the screen. If you go off angle the color becomes cooler and looks good. I have cranked the brightness up on the phone and am trying to get used to it. Phone is perfect otherwise.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

So here’s my story. I received the 256 iPhone 11 Pro Max yesterday. Before opening, I went to the Apple store in woodcliff lake, nj to see how I’d like it in case I wanted to return it.

Most iPhone 11 pro max phones had some yellowing. I looked closely at 5 of them. I compared them to each other and the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 pro (2 of each). I also, of course, compared them to my XS Max.

3 of the 5 iPhone 11 pro Max phones were excellent. Bright and white. The other two horrible.

I called a customer service guy over, Lucas, and showed him the difference. He had no idea what was up.

Here’s what might help everybody. I went home, opened mine, set it up - and it was HORRIBLE. Photos yellow, internet pages yellow, emails yellow...

Obviously a return. Until I did this...

Went to Accessabilites. Toggled Auto Brightness off and back on 4-5 times. Left it OFF.

Then, plugged phone in to charge to get battery to 100%. As it was charging, I went to TRU TONE and turned it OFF. Put phone down and walked away for around 20 minutes.

Came back to phone and turned AUTO BRIGHTNESS back ON.

Turned True Tone back on.

Left phone to get to 100% charge.

Unplugged phone, and BAM. Screen is beautiful. Now even whiter than my iPhone XS Max.

This is amazing. I’m now keeping the phone.

To be clear - I have been comparing to my old phone all night. It started off yellow and dingy. It is now perfect white wear it should be.

I don’t know how it happened. But I’m glad it did.
Went back to the store and sure enough my display looked darker. I didn’t have everything to return so I figured I would come back another day this week to return it. I went home though and tried what you said in this post and Shazam! This worked! Brighter than my XR, looks nice. So what the heck is going on here with software!?

Yes! RGB sliders is something that I always wanted as part of the display preferences in iOS. But, since that never happened, the Color Tint option is the next best thing. If you play with them for a bit and adjust slightly until the temperature is more pleasing to your eyes, it makes a huge difference.

The thing is Auto Brightness is supposed to stay on. Otherwise, you risk permanent burn-in on these OLED screens. I’d say when you turn it off, you see the possible max brightness of these new displays. However, the phone is not supposed to be this bright all the time. It showcases the peak brightness, which is great for HDR movies, but in real life with the brightness levels capped the screen is not very bright and appears dimmer than the previous generations.

So has anyone gotten a good display? As white / blue as the Xs Max, or original X? Is this affecting all of them? I want to go back to the apple store to check and maybe exchange if they have stock, but if this is all new iPhone 11 Pro's then theres no point.

The risk is rather small. After having the X and Xs Max, both with Auto-Brightness turned off, and primarily using my phone at full brightness, moderate to moderate-heavy user, with my wife using her phone even more (she had a Xs Max, came from Galaxy S8+), I still have yet to see screen burn in. On the flip side, my wife's old Galaxy S8+ had burn in within 4-5 months.

good question! And is someone using 13.1 beta with pro 11 max complaining? I have a bit of hope with 13.1 update all will be a bit better?

I am using it on my iPhone 11 Pro. Nothing changes, still yellow... don’t know if it’s like several people said concerning the glue which isn’t totally dry or if I should return the phone and try another one...

My 11 Pro (non-Max) looks perfect to my eyes and I'm very picky re: yellow tint. This phone is not as warm as my old XS was. Got lucky this year, one and done for me.

@BarrettF77 - here are more pics using "normal" auto brightness and another one with True Tone on. True Tone looks much better on my 11 Pro than my XS, which was way too yellow.

I've heard better things on the non max than the max as for color and uniformity. Thanks for sharing the pic, would like to see others too. I see you have True Tone off and my current max looks similar on brightness, but falls short when on thee dim side of things as this is where OLED struggles and you see the panel issues more commonly.

I ended up buying another 256GB 11 Pro Max for pickup today. The first one was bright, warmer (which is fine), but the color shift-on the top half when looking straight-on bothers me. I just want a uniform screen.

Post back your results, interested to hear.

And yes @Frostt, you can do that.

I'm wondering, can I buy for pickup at an apple store, and then exchange when I get there? I see one Apple store near me has stock of my model, but by the time I get there, it may be sold out. Can I buy now and then exchange when I get there?

Turning OFf auto brightness is a big improvement over where the screen actually was originally
Apple claims the screen is calibrated However some people just don’t like a yellowish screen. Turning off auto brightness does not affect the calibration

In this scenario since you're buying in advance, you'd just end up returning your existing phone.

I feel like for those who traded in their previous phones, it's complicated making all these exchanges. At least, I kept my previous X, so I can always revert to it. I started noticing on my 11 Pro that the screen is uneven, which by itself may be fine to a degree. However, it has started distracting me while reading. I can live with a slightly warmer screen, but uneven tint is something that I will not put up with.

Yeah I don't mind the warm temperature anymore since the screen is very bright however the top quarter being darker is annoying when reading pages with white backgrounds.

Yeah unfortunately I have a 600 dollar credit from my iPhone Xs Max I traded in, makes it more complicated.

Exactly this. I avoided trading in anything for this reason.

Since an exchange is just a refund onto a gift card and re-purchase anyway I rather just make a pre-purchase ahead of time in the Store app to avoid wasting time hoping they have one in stock.
