Does that actually mean they are no longer sapphire on the SS. I too like the fact its supposed to be a more resilient screen
Someone posted in another thread that Apple support confirmed the SS models still have sapphire. I guess at this point they figure it's not worth mentioning on the spec list.

I tend to upgrade my AW every 3 years but totally agree on the price. £399 for the aluminium is about the right price for a smartwatch with a limited lift span I think. I’d never entertain a stainless or titanium at full retail price as I can’t get my head around being charged £300-400 more just for a different case material and sapphire glass panel. It just seems grossly overpriced to me. Also, seeing as these watches gather dust in a drawer after a few years I’m less bothered about keeping my watch absolutely scratch free.

One bonus though is the fact the value of Apple watches absolutely plummet in quite a short space of time. Stainless S5’s can be picked up for around £300 and many are hardly worn. They can be a very good secondhand buy and it’s not like they aren’t easy to clean thoroughly.
I just couldn’t buy a second hand iPhone or watch. No mater how thoroughly it was cleaned, in my head it would never be.
But that’s because I’m weird!

It should really be standard across the range by now. Apple have got their shelf life out of portraying it as a premium feature by now I think. Time to offer it on all.

Just placed an order for the Graphite SS and guess how long is the wait? 2 months from now. Unbelievable!

I haven’t bought secondhand phones for years as I’m lucky enough I can afford new. Just making the point you can get a Series 5 Stainless for half price due to the horrendous depreciation and nobody would know the difference anyway. I agree a secondhand gadget does not have the same level of satisfaction as receiving new.

I’d sooner have an older one than a second hand one. The only things I buy second hand are cars and houses. But besides the bricks and roof tiles, there isn’t much left of the house I bought in December!

Excellent. Helps with the purchase of the new one and determining band choice. Thanks

I'd also suggest factoring against what you may be able to sell for on Swappa vs trade-in against the value of the cable and band you'd get to keep with trade-in.

I have no problem with the elimination of the charger. I must have at least 9 of them lying around. I would venture to guess most people have a Usb charger already.

I have enough charger bricks too, that's not the point.
If Apple truly did this for enviromental reasons, they should have knocked $5-10 off the price for that missing charger.

Why would they knock $5-10 off the price for something that maybe costs them a whole $1 to make, and likely actually costs a fair bit less?

Check out bulk pricing on Alibaba. 5W chargers are almost literally a dime a dozen.

Is it true that the titanium and Hermés watches still come with the power adapter? If so that really makes a mockery out of Apple saying they removed it for environmental reasons.

Yep. I ordered a Titanium and the power adapter is listed as "In the box". I guess it's not without precedent... my Ceramic S3 came with two separate charging pucks in the box. One was the traditional "cable" that comes with all the watches, and one was the "pillow" style display / charger.

If you have the Chase Freedom or Flex card, you might want to do what I'm doing....wait until 10/1 to buy from Apple. They accept PayPal and it's 5% cash back PP purchases starting 10/1. Lucky me, also going to get the Air 4 & pencil 2 in Oct.

While price certainly has a lot to do with it, sapphire is heavy and rather brittle, so, while sapphire is hard to scratch, it's relatively easy to crack, which is why it may make more sense to have ion-X in the aluminum Apple Watch "Sport." A lot of mechanical watch enthusiasts prefer acrylic to sapphire for this reason, too.

Maybe you don’t understand how mass supplying works. (And I’m not claiming that I have a full understanding either), but why would they ‘Knock off‘ $5-$10 off? They probably mark off more like $.30 to the dollar, given how many units they are actually are saving money by not including the charging brick. What you’re saying, would make more sense if Apple produced 500 of XYZ units, not when they’re producing millions of Apple Watches to Subtract a fraction of what it costs to produce a brick Charger.

Eventually I'll get the series 6 but only once they actually get them in stores. I'm also a little torn between the cool new colors in Al and the space grey SS. My Al series 3 is in great shape, despite daily wear, I feel like the series 6 may be something I hold onto longer, if the materials hold up.

And this is why I opt’d for applecare+. Best of both worlds. ;)

Just ordered the GPS Aluminum Gold AS6 with the Plum Sport loop. First time having an aluminum watch AW, but better for my needs. Also, my first time trying the Monthly payment plan...probably going to pay off the balance next month anyway. Just hope it's not that pinky gold. If it is, at least I can switch the color up with bezel stylings.

Great choice- that’s the same configuration I ordered! Ordered mine yesterday and shows delivery date of Sept 25-29, but is currently showing preparing to ship- so hoping for sooner!

I like those. Maybe I’ll buy some to make my S4 feel brand new.

They’re really nice. Easy to apply and take off as well without damaging the watch. I re-ordered the violet and neo chrome one. Also, better to order through their eBay store, it’s actually cheaper.

I was one of the few that purchased the Series 5. After going onto Apple's website and comparing both models the only thing I am missing is the blood oxygen sensor and I don't think that is worth shelling out $430 plus tax.
