I'm not certain you could get 3-days with the watch off but that said why buy the watch if you turn everything off? There are cheaper options that will get close to this watch.

Me, I could get 1-1/2 days, without serious workouts and that was it for the watch. Too many times I wound up putting it on the charger in the middle of the day. Not sure about the difference between the 4 and 5 because the 4 could do 2 days and I had AOD off.

I'll probably get a 6 though. You can always eBay them or sell it direct to a 3rd party and get half the purchase back if I hate the battery. And, right now I kind of wish I had my 5 back. It looks like I'll be going lighter on the workouts for a bit and the AW is better for that than my Garmin.

I turned AOD off and can get 2 days out of mine with about 8% left. I found AOD is worth about 30% of the battery in a 16 hour period.

I've ever owned an Apple Watch before but am getting increasingly keen to buy one. The things putting me off in the past have been 1) the fact that I like and own a number of normal watches that I usually wear day to day, and 2) that I have a fitbit for health tracking.

Now that i'm effectively permanently working from home, the days of putting on a nice watch to go into the office are most likely going be very rare. I've been getting less enthusiastic about Fitbit since their proposed acquisition by Google and I find the offering to be quite basic unless you fork out for Fitbit Premium, which although quite good I just feel is a waste of money.

I'll see what the S6 has to offer before I make a decision but i'd say i'm 75% decided that i'll buy one regardless.

I purchased the watch 5 last year and loved it I just picked up the Samsung watch 3 and will see how well it works. I use both platforms.

Although a low cost model sounds enticing, I'm not sure I'd jump on it if it was plastic.
I also wonder if would still be compatible with the existing watch bands.

If there is a plastic one I would get it for sports, I am happy with my 4 for everyday wear but have broken 2 screens during activities so a plastic one that I can throw about and don't have to worry about would be ideal.

I was planning on getting a 6, but depends on when it comes out. I would like one in a few weeks, if they don’t come on i’ll pick up a 5. Its not really that big a deal to me to have the latest and greatest. I was going to just buy a 5 yesterday but everywhere around me is sold out.

I wouldn’t purchase a Series 5. Really, the only advantage to that model was AOD, that’s it. Series 6 will easily capitalize that and more, especially given the difference in price probably really won’t be that substantial to have the latest model.

I have thought the same thing. But just wanted one soon. If it’s more like a November release I might just pick up a used one. But then I might wait, it’s not like I need any of this stuff.

I wonder if the fact you can buy them locally hurts them in anyway? Seems like going close to two months will little watch sales wouldn’t be good. But then again it Apple I’m sure they can weather many storms.

The good thing for those wanting a secondhand deal is the Apple Watch loses so much if it’s value. Looking back I probably should have bought a series 4 rather than the 5 as the AOD is nice to have but a battery killer. Right now I’d probably get a series 5 instead of the 6 and take advantage of the low cost. I’ve seen S5’s hardly worn going for £250-300 and stainless models too.

The other good thing about the watch is aesthetically they have hardly changed so nobody really knows what model you’ve bought.

The new Samsung watch is getting very positive reviews. I would be interested in your views once you get used to it.

I’ve been eyeing AWs since first gen but never pulled the trigger. I currently have a Garmin Fenix 5x and while it’s served it’s purpose, it’s lacking in areas. One of them being screen resolution among other things. My primary purpose of the Fenix series was long distance running but those days are mostly over. I will do the occasional half marathon which I’m sure Series 6 is capable.

To upgrade to a Fenix 6x Pro gains slightly better resolution and close to $1000. The OS is still not as polished and still tethered charging. However, battery life is still an area that Garmin excels. Anyway, the price point alone of the 6x Pro pushes it to the “premium” area of Apple watches.

I’m sure I will be happy with many of the features that S6 willl offer. However, my number 1 reason for most likely getting into the boat with S6 is I recently got a Tesla Model 3. I will be able to use Siri Shortcuts to control many of aspects of the car via third party App. It is also rumored that Tesla is working on a dedicated AW App where one might be able use the AW as the Key card thereby eliminating the iPhone if one chooses. That’s exciting stuff! As vehicles become “smarter”, it will be interesting to see if other manufacturers start tapping into Apple Watch potential.

I am always tempted by Garmin every now and then because of the firstbeat metrics. I'm not convinced by the Apple VO2 max reading. Although, one cool little app for AW that came out recently is called training today. It is by the guy that has theapplewatchtriathlete.com website. It reads hrv and gives a readiness score which I find to be quite accurate.

Thanks for the tip on that! When I resume training for my next half, I will definitely look into it. The Garmin Connect metrics are fine but it sounds like AW can offer the same.

As I mentioned, the strongest feature Garmin Fenix series has going is battery life. Screen resolution is lacking. Fenix 5x is 240x240. Fenix 6x Pro is 280x280. It’s a jump, but not significantly so. If not in direct sunlight, the screen can be hard to see. The resolution on the S5 is 368x448. My eyes are old so 🤣

I may even keep the 5x as there is nothing wrong with having more than one watch.

The Fenix Sapphire is pretty brutal, lot of reflection, the Gorilla glass version is pretty easy to see and with the backlight I don't have any problems in low light. The AW is kind of the reverse as it can be hard to see it direct sunlight.

I don't get the 21 days, or 24 they promise, because I run with podcasts and music / podcasts obliterate the battery, but I get a week plus without any problems. Basically, I reload the podcasts once/week and charge at the same time.

I don’t have social media, but I do know that Facebook marketplace is flooded with Apple Watches left and right for sale. Mainly because, the market is fairly saturated now where almost everyone has a smart watch, and when they’re looking to upgrade, the first place they put them is in their local communities versus places like eBay that actually charge fees/surcharges.

I will almost certainly get one. I’ve had an S0 and currently have an S3 cellular. I almost got an S5 but was afraid of the battery life; for the first year or 18 months of the S3 I only charged every other day. Battery life is still fine but the S3 needs a charge every day. I haven’t had a bigger screen with more complications. Really want the EKG. I’m a heavy user of the Siri watch face, notifications, and fitness rings and I could never have a watch that doesn’t show the temperature again. At least for now I’m more excited about upgrading my watch than I am upgrading my XS Max.

At this point I am probably down. Never had one before. Looking at it mostly for sports activities and for the heart failure monitoring (my family has heart problems sadly)

Sort of hope that they replace the Apple Watch 3 as cheap legacy edition when the 6 arrives. But between my health insurance and some store credit I already got 365€ waiting and the missing 100€ I can save up.

I have a series 4 and I may upgrade depending on the features of Series 6. I have a SB SS but I may opt for SS this go ‘round since I want more options for bands that match.

As an aside, what app do you use for podcasts on the Fenix? I've tried a few podcast apps with my AW but none seem to sync consistently for me.

I use Apple Podcasts and a cable so it's a manual process. On the AW I used Overcast. Apple Podcast and the watch was probably worse than what I'm about to write about Spotify.

I hated Spotify but I think a playlist there with podcasts, which I think worked on my phone but nothing else, might have been OK.

Amazon may get podcasts at some point, and I forget the other option but I believe it had podcasts as well.

My guess is it will just be a S3 with an updated processor. It's a pretty good bet that it will be compatible with existing bands - that's a big selling point (keep your bands as you upgrade your watch).

If that is the case then the battery life should improve with more efficient processing and software. It is already the best for battery of all the AW series(3), that said, the 6 would have to equal or better battery life, can't have the latest and greatest having less.
