I've been using an iPhone for a long time. I rarely use Edge. When I'm home, its on WiFi. At my office it's on Wifi. I have set the iPhone up to receive mail every minute, so it's virtually push email. If that comes in when I'm not on WiFi, it really amounts to very little. My Rogers data charges are minimal. If you are a judicious user, data rates are not an issue.

As far as getting an iPhone is concerned, I would never wait for Rogers. I never have waited for a carrier. I always use unlocked, unbranded phones.

I have a feeling that Rogers is waiting for the 3G iPhone, as given that they now have 3G services, they might feel that they won't sell as many if its EDGE only.

I work with Rogers Wireless. They are not waiting for the 3G iPhone. There are issues with Apple that they are having problems resolving. Telus is going GSM, and one reason cited for the switch is the iPhone, so stay tuned. If Rogers can resolve its issues with Apple they'll introduce the phone. Why is anybody here waiting?

I think tons of ppl are waiting in Canada. Rogers is missing out on millions in revenue with what has to be coming up to a year of back and forth with apple.

I think most ppl are waiting for cheap data plan and to not have to jailbreak their phone and potentially turn it into a paper weight with updates etc.

With respect, you really don't understand the iPhone or the iPhone experience. At least the big picture. Jailbreaking turns the iPhone into a Mac in your pocket, rather than a cell phone. You have no idea what an incredibly powerful device this becomes with the addition of hundreds of apps that turn the thing into something unparalleled. I have no idea where this rap comes from about bricking the phone. I've jailbroken and unlocked 5 of them. No bricks. No problems. You can be sure that the iPhone I'm walking around with is a hundred times the phone people with locked, unjailbroken AT&T iPhones are using. That's what you'll have when and if you get your Rogers iPhone. Boring.

If Telus goes GSM and gets the iPhone, I would drop rogers in a heart beat... That is why I don't want to buy a new phone and renew my contract. I've been waiting forever.. Might just give up and get and unlocked one.

That's a great article. The second Telus goes GSM, I'm gone from Rogers. In fact, I have a Telus account. Get me a sim card and I'm good to go.

What do you mean you hope they do? Rogers bought Fido. Telus is not getting it.

All I want is the damn iPhone in Canada...

I really hope the new player in the wireless game in may shake up the industry.

If hope another GSM Network opens up and offers the iPhone, cause Rogers is driving me crazy. How long can they really hold out for... With there inflated rates, and poor customer service. I would be happy to join else if they offered the iPhone.

I'm not offended. You didn't read the article. I don't work for Rogers, I work with Rogers, and I think the point to be made on this thread is that people who are waiting for Rogers, or any carrier to get this phone are waiting for a locked, unjailbroken phone, with an additional contract forced on you as with AT&T. Why are you all waiting? Go out and buy an iPhone now. The dealer will jailbreak it and unlock it, or you can do it yourself. If you don't live in a major, metropolitan area, you may have a problem, but most Canadians do. Or, if you're near the border, go to an Apple Store or an AT&T store, buy the thing, bring it home and jailbreak and unlock it. It couldn't be easier. As far as all the hand ringing about Rogers rates are concerned, like me, most iPhone users I know use it with WiFi, almost exclusively. We use Edge only in a pinch. WiFi is everywhere, especially if you're in Toronto. My data bills are minimal. I love this device, and because it's unshackled, it's an endless source of fun and involvement. New apps and utilities come streaming in every day. Every day this "cell phone" becomes something much more. You can wait for Apple to start posting apps for sale on iTunes, sure. Or you can get a phone, get it jailbroken and unlocked, and start using hundreds of free applications, themes, wallpapers and utilities, without an additional contract with Rogers or whomever.

If you are in the GTA, and you want one and don't know where to get one, PM me. I'll provide you with a list of iPhone dealers. The cheapest route is the route to the Apple store at the Galleria Mall in Buffalo. You'll pay less, and the Canadian dollar is worth more. PM me and I'll get it jailbroken and unlocked for you, or I'll explain how to do it yourself in two and a half minutes. For all of you going on about "bricking" the phone - it ain't gonna happen. Let this cease on this forum. It doesn't happen. Let's put it this way, any GSM phone can be unlocked and unbranded. Once in a blue moon something might go wrong. You can walk outside and get hit by a bus too.

Have you heard anything on the 'having to be an american resident to buy an iPhone'? I called the closest ATT store in Watertown and they said I'd have to provide ID proving I was a US resident. I'm probably going to go down tonight and just roll the dice, but if I get sent home empty handed I'm going to be a little upset.

Well, that sounds TOTALLY illegal. I think that person you were speaking to was talking out of his ass. They're not even allowed to ask for ID if you are using a credit card.

I've bought 3 of them in the States. You have to have an American Social Security number to activate it with AT&T. Anybody can buy an iPhone.

Would I send you to the States of I knew you had to be American?

Ok listen people! I have a pretty good deal I think. Some guy near my place (Quebec,Canada) is selling a 8Gb iPhone for 350$. I just want to make sure that if I buy it, I will be able to use it!! My problem is that my current cellphone contract (telus) ends in like a year. So do you think it could still be useful, as a portable computer for example(checking emails, used as a storing device and all kind of other stuff). I could put music on it too but I already have a 30Gb Video iPod. Anyways, just wanted to know what you guys think?

Waste of money. Wait till the time is right for you. It needs a active sim card in it to operate.

i'm from Canada, and i really want an iPhone. I have an iPod Touch, but I don't have a phone yet and when I do get one (which is soon) I don't want to haul around my iPod AND my cell phone. So this phone would be perfect for me.

I need help finding a good price and everything though. lol.

There are no good prices in Canada at this time. If you buy it in the States, it's a great deal, with the exchange on the dollar. Most stores in Toronto sell the 8 GB for about $650. Go to he US and get the 8 GB for $399 US. That's a good price for Canadians. You may find a used one on Howard Forums for about $450 CAD.

Why would you have to buy a plan if you're buying the phone? Next question. Who in Canada is selling plans for iPhones?
