Boy you sure like to write. Anyway, Rogers is not in bed with Rim. Let's strike that before it creates more misinformation on this forum, which abounds with misinformation. If Rogers could launch the iPhone tomorrow they would. I know why their launch is delayed. It may take awhile before it's there. I agree with your last point. Don't wait for Rogers. iPhones are everywhere. Just buy one.

Boy, this is how forum rumours start.

Rogers is not holding out for the 3G version. Real iPhone pro users could care less about 3G. People who are big time users use WiFi almost exclusively. Rogers is not waiting for 3G. I said this in a very early post, and it was shot down by someone who was partly right, and largely wrong. Rogers would have had the phone last summer, but Rogers wanted a non-WiFi version, which Apple refuses to deliver. That put their negotiations on hold, and Apple became involved with Europe.

why would rogers want a non-wifi version? rogers is also in the internet business, so they'd win either way.

not trying to start rumors at all. just something i was thinking about.

The more you use WiFi, the less you use Edge. Edge is where they make serious money.

Without a data plan you're at their mercy if you ever happen to go online or do email with Edge.

You have to decide for yourself. Nobody here know what your usage is. It's for you to decide.

i know a couple of people that don't have a data plan and have an iphone. i see no problem doing this till data plans come down in price.

without a data plan you still get wifi access anywhere you can find a signal, great pda functionality with iCal, address book, etc., all the functionality of an iPod touch, a camera, pretty decent sms client, tons of 3rd party apps and a pretty good phone.

still a good device.

i was at Moxies tonight for a birthday dinner and the people beside us had iPhones! i got to play with them and they are so amazing.

The people were amazing yeah I know LOL I am kidding I do not have edge connected at all in my plan so it never goes into edge not even to check for emails I love it. So my plan stays the same, same bill everymonth as when I was back using my razr. Plus every where I go there is wifi so I aint missing out on anything

Ok...So basically, If I get my dad's old SIM card he was using in his old cellphone(Rogers) and put it in the iphone, I should be able to get it working? Well, by working I mean being able to jailbrake it and use it wherever there is a Wifi Connection?

yes you should have no problems

Text entry is a challenge. I get the feeling that there are a lot of kids on this thread. That means texters. If you're a serious texter this may not be the phone for you.

Entering this post was painful. I mean it.

What does "practicing on Notes" mean? Does it mean notes on an iPod?

Have you heard anything on the 'having to be an american resident to buy an iPhone'? I called the closest ATT store in Watertown and they said I'd have to provide ID proving I was a US resident. I'm probably going to go down tonight and just roll the dice, but if I get sent home empty handed I'm going to be a little upset.

Go to Syracuse Apple Store, they won't ask you any prove ID@.@

This isn't really the right advice. You can buy the phone at any Apple Store, anywhere. Somebody said they were refused at an AT&T store. That is very strange. AT&T sells them. There is no activation at the store level, so who buys it is none of their business. I've bought two at AT&T stores.

Too many myths on this thread. I get the feeling we have a lot of teenagers here who are a bit nervous about all this. There is nothing to be nervous about.

Hi there rje

You seem to have helped quite a few people here ;-)
Maybe I also missed it, but, what's the best application to unlock the phone? And are there instructions anywhere around here?

Thanks a lot - fussal
