Sorry, posted this in the wrong thread earlier:

Queued for six hours because their servers were up the creek on Friday, got one in my hands at 5:15.

Phoned Sunday after their website said 2-3 days to activate, and got told within 24 hours.

Phoned Monday, and spoke to a guy who took exactly the same details the O2 person did over the phone with an Apple bod in-store. He also gave me his extension number, and said any problems give him a call, but otherwise activation within 24 hours.

Phoned today, and got told he shouldn't have given me that number as they can't put customers through to extensions. Apparently they'll all be activated today.

All this, and I haven't even started using the service yet. It doesn't look good for the next 18 months really, does it?!

Still awaiting activation.

Yesterday afternoon someone told me withing 5 hours.
Yesterday evening after 5 hours had passed they told me withing 5 business hours, i.e. by lunch time today.

Still nothing.

Called them up and now theyre saying within 24 hours.

This is taking the piss. Im at the very least going to try and get my £10 saturday delivery charge refunded, because it was a waste of money.

I wasn't too bothered about not being switched from my sim only contract to the iphone plan fully but now o2 have charged me £2.54 for my data usage and I hope that includes yesterday as I used quite a bit. I had figured if it said on o2 site that my order for the iphone upgrade had be "completed" then surely I would be on that plan but I guess not. Ok so i know that my allowance was the sim only values still and visual voicemail is not active yet but the guy in the o2 store said when the internet is working then your activated.. pish I knew that didn't sound right. If the charge for data starts getting stupid then I'll have to complain to o2.

Sorry for the double post I realised that the charges were for the 12th and after using GPS and google maps all day yesterday I figured it wouldn't be looking good so I phoned up o2 and they told me they hadn't switched my plan over to the iphone tariff and that they would ring me back to sort it out today ( though it has to be tomorrow now as I'm in work tonight). They said they'd refund the data charges and I could use it as if it was free. The guy was really helpful as I've come to expect from almost all the o2 support staff I've spoke to :D. So guys if your still not upgraded it may be worth giving o2 a call.

I got through to 02, twice, first time I got cut off. Second time I was told someone would call me in 5 hours, around 6pm. No good as I have work at 4.30 tonight, so I should get a voicemail. But I'm not holding my breath. I really really hope I'm activated by the end of the week. If not, I will be off to get a refund, then take another contract out like a few people have actually done.

:( I hate all this waiting

I'm sorted now - to those that aren't, have you tried turning your phone off then on? I just had a brainwave to try it, and sure enough once it rebooted I had an O2 signal.

But what's even better is that that's sorted out all my MobileMe woes too, so I'm guessing the push doesn't come through wi-fi.

After a gazillion calls to O2 and CWP and the assurance yesterday from O2 that they were responsible for the mess (!) I decided to call CPW again this morning only to be told once more that my account is showing as 'still open' .. told me I'd have to go back into my local store to get it 'closed' .. first they tried to do it online but they couldn't ..

They slated my local store for handing over the phone to me without asking for any identification or checking my tariff etc etc ... so I got down to the store (major hassle as I'm disabled!) and it turns out to not be their fault (yeah, I was surprised too!) ..

When they tried to get into the account (gave them my transaction number) it said 'This order is held by another store' .. basically the web team totally mucked everything up and when they were sending out iPhones they should have closed the orders as they were completed .. my local store manager spent an hour on the phone with the CPW people (national) and eventually the order was closed .. I am supposed to now get service within 24 hours! ..

The manager at my local store was really angry with the web order people .. it was quite encouraging to see actually!

Hopefully now I'll get an iPhone! ..

Would encourage everyone with the online CPW order problem to phone and check if the order is 'open' .. it may help ..

still waiting but with a little more hope this time?!

Loopy

YIKES!! .. less than an hour of the order being 'closed' I am up and running with service! *gasp* ... please check this out any other web order CPW people having problems! .. the guy at my store said that the web order people are in major trouble for the mess up they've made with it all!!

Finally activated. I too had the same problem, my initial order hadn't been closed off.

After numerous calls to various different departments at both o2 and CPW it seems it was the sales team at CPW who took the order who got it sorted for me.

Am still waiting.

Happened to be walking past Apple Store today where I purchased it on Friday. They said nothing to do with them, I should try at the O2 Shop. So I did.

The bloke in there checked my order on the system and said everything was okay, and the delay was just due to the backlog created by the system failiure at the weekend, and that I would be connected today.

Which means in 23 minutes. :)

Mine still hasn't been activated. Brought it from the O2 store in Putney.

The guy I was speaking to on the phone today was a complete joke. He couldn't find me on their system anywhere and insisted I had to read out the SIM number. I didn't have the tray tool with me as I was at work so I used a paper clip in the end. But surely they KNOW my SIM number if they are going to activate it remotely on their system?!

Then he asked where I brought it. I said O2 in putney. Then he wasn't sure where that was?! I mean hello you are from O2. So I had to look up the address of the store on O2's website and tell him.

Then he said I would get a call in the next 5 hours. Guess what I didn't. I am going to get really annoyed tomorrow on the phone. It will have been 6 days by then. What a complete joke!

They were complaining Apple didn't give them enough stock for the launch. Yet they can't even cope with the stock that Apple did give them.

O2 are the most retarded company ever.

it's funny how different people get different levels of service with the same company. I guess the people with new iphones have had the worse service. I phoned o2 today at about half 1 got through after about 3 mins on hold, guy was very helpful as I mentioned earlier, asked for my name ect found me, told me he was sorry that it was charging me for data and that he'd get it taken off and send the details to the right place to change my tariff over and after i finished work at half 9 I found my plan had been switched over to the iphone plan. I guess I still need to take the call tomoz from o2 but I'm not quite sure what it's for now, but oh well.

and so the fiasco continues.

I got my call back, but I was working when it happened, had a voicemail to say I should be activated, but if not, I should call back. It was 7pm, I called back. The guy couldnt find any details of me on their computer.

So now, I should be getting another call back between 9-10am to give all my details over the phone, again. Urgh. Why is this turning out to be soooo hard.

In reality, I could just sell the phone and get a new contract out. 02 seem to have no records of me...

6th day without service

ok, o2, you are now as rubbish as our government.

You would think they would have staffed up for this or outsourced more to UK rentacallcentres like vertex
It is now 6 days.
I was in the store at 8.02 last Friday and was straight onto the failing URU and gateway system.
The temp telephone number on my contract is non affiliated apparently, they don't even have a record of my wifes details.

I spent near 2 hours on the phone to them yesterday.

Was promised a call back within 2 hrs
Didn't happen
Then was promised a call within 5 mins
Didn't happen
All they could do is very nicely tell me what I already know

The only thing that saved me from this crap with the original iPhone was the fact that Edge was so slow so I decided not to buy one then

I kind of feel sorry for tmobile, I have been with them since they were called one2one back in 1996, and I am leaving them for these useless divs

It is truly incredible that some people are still awaiting sim activation!

48 hours seemed bad enough, but it is now not far short of a week.

Clearly there has been some serious ineptitude in various quarters.

Good luck to all those who are still waiting.

still waiting for my second call back.

I think I am going crazy now though, I'm having dreams where I see signal on my phone :(

Rather than my number port going through today or tomorrow as promised on Monday, I just got a text to say it'll be going through on Friday.

O2 are obviously still working through a backlog on all fronts

Oh, and they've issued my first bill now but I can't see it since the online system crashes with an error when I try to view my bill or my allowances :(

I'm pretty much in the same boat.. called O2 customer services in the morning and am now awaiting a call back from the back office team (the team that apparently get you working) within a 5 hours time window. Currently at 3-4 hours so fingers crossed! :)

However, to be fair its been a complete disaster from start to finish - allow me to explain

Order 16GB iPhone from CarPhone Warehouse online site on Thursday.
Enter my post code and receive confirmation that it will be sent to the Gateshead (nearest) store the following day.

Using the tracking number provided I eagerly waited delivery to store.
Roll on 6pm - Delivery Failed. WTF.. get in touch with courier company and they inform me that the address they attempted to deliver to doesnt exist..(!) Sure enough I check up the address and CPW attempted to send the kit to a shop that had closed down 12 months ago - all I can say is that I'm very lucky no one else had replaced them otherwise I would have had no chance attempting to retrieve the phone.

Anyway I hotfoot it to the courier expecting a battle on my hands as the unit was not addressed to me but to the (non existent) shop; however the courier company was very understanding so with some proof of ordering etc they handed the goods over so full credit where credit is due for common sense.

Following day I take it down to CPW (the branch that should have received the phone) Gateshead but they are unable to close the order as the kit is (still) assigned to the CPW Online branch code and until they move it to their own branch; the order woill stay open. So.. if the order aint closed then the phone can not be activated. However, I was told at the time (Saturday!) that it should be closed by Monday but to be fair I've never had time to visit the shop so that question is still hanging the air 4 days later. Hopefully O2 will be able to resolve without involving those incompetant eejits at CPW - here is hoping. :(

Yay Gooood News

Sorry for the caps but AHH! YES

Just got off the phone after the 3rd attempt of them caling me, (1st while I was at work yesterday and earlier today, got cut off) and handed over all my details, again... SHOULD be activated by tonight/24 Hours.

look forward to it.

As a note to all iPhone users, you dont need to take the simcard out of the phone. Go to Settings, General, About. scroll down to ICCID and thats your simcard number.

Also, your IMEI number is there too, which they need.

I will update when I finally no longer have to see 'No Service'

Despite the advice from the Apple store and a neighbouring O2 store to "sit tight and be patient", I got bored and called 0800 005 005.

After the 3rd attempt I eventually spoke to someone who eventually told me that the iPhone Activation Team would call me back. They did, about 30mins later.

Finally, someone who seemed to know what they were talking about. They took all my details again from scratch and re-processed my order. I was told that my SIM would be activated within 24 hours (probably sooner), and my Vodafone number ported over probably on Friday.

I'm a bit more hopeful now.

Advice for anyone else waiting... try to get to speak to the O2 iPhone activation team regardless of what anyone else from O2, CPW or Apple tell you.

Good luck
SL

6.5 hours later and still no call - what a surprise.

Seems a disgusting service considering they are making 540 out of me per annum

Razor

Al I can say is to keep on calling. It took 3call backs for me to get sorted. Even then i'm still not active LOL

So, where do we go from here? I'm certainly going for compensation. Do you reckon i'll get much?
